Monster Hunter Rise PC system requirements should make easy prey Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:36 AM PST ![]() In their Monster Hunter Rise review, our friends over at Pocket Tactics describe the game as "the best Monster Hunter on the market", and we can't wait for the hunt to commence on PC. It won't be long before the Monster Hunter Rise release date is upon us, so it's best to make like any good hunter and make sure your gaming PC is equipped and prepared to deal with the game's monsters well in advance. Despite starting out as a Nintendo Switch title, the Monster Hunter Rise system requirements are slightly more demanding than 2018's Monster Hunter: World. You can already get a feel for how the game will perform with your current rig by playing its demo on Steam. However, this likely won't be entirely reflective of the title's performance upon its full release. One thing we know for certain is that Monster Hunter Rise won't feature cross-play or cross-save, so you won't be able to bring your progress over from Nintendo Switch or vice versa, unfortunately. Here are the Dreams and Nightmares weapon skins coming to CS:GO Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:21 AM PST ![]() This summer, Valve launched a huge CS:GO art contest asking fans to create weapon skins inspired by the theme of 'Dreams and Nightmares', with the winning ten entries set to earn their makers a slice of a whopping $1 million prize pool and the addition of their creations to the live FPS game. Now, those winning weapon skins have been unveiled - and it turns out there were far more than ten worthy entries. "The CS:GO team reviewed over 15,000 entries from artists from all parts of the globe, and decided that ten winning submissions wouldn't be enough," Valve posts on the contest's site. "So, an additional seven were selected (17 total) for a grand total prize pool of $1.7 million." Phwoar. 24 different artists produced the winning creations and, impressively, 14 of these were first-time contributors to the game's Steam Workshop. The studio says it's getting in touch with the winning artists to work with them on shipping the dazzling new skins to the game - but we can get a good look at what's coming right now. Best CPU cooler deals as we approach Black Friday Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:53 AM PST ![]() The performance and temperature of your gaming PC go hand-in-hand, as the more you make it sweat, the slower it'll be. Pop a decent cooler on top of one of the best gaming CPUs, however, and you'll have a rig that's ready to run a marathon, whether you're crafting a top-of-the-line system or simply trying to get Halo Infinite to run at more than 60fps. Thankfully, while keeping things frosty can be pricey, there are plenty of CPU cooler deals to be found this Black Friday. You have two core options when it comes to picking up a new CPU cooler. The traditional path is to go for an air cooler, which uses a whopping metal heatsink and fan to disperse heat. Some prefer the best AIO coolers, which run liquid through a closed-loop to keep things cool. These are much easier to install than a full water-cooling build, and are far flashier than air cooling. Whatever you opt for, you'll likely need to pair your cooling solution with a good set of fans. 120mm should do the trick, fitting inside most PC cases, and Antec has vibrant RGB-clad sets currently on offer. Halo Infinite Fracture: Tenrai start time confirmed ahead of event Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:15 AM PST ![]() 343 Industries has revealed when Halo Infinite's Fracture Tenrai event starts. While the FPS game's multiplayer offering only launched last week, we're already getting an event that's stuffed with cosmetics to glamour up our Spartans. As 343 Industries confirmed last week, Halo Infinite's first swanky event starts today (November 23). You're getting 30 tiers of rewards to level through on a unique event pass, which is a decent increase on the 20 tiers that we thought we were getting initially. There's a theme to the rewards, too, as the Yoroi armour has a distinctive samurai vibe to it. The new gear may catch your attention if you remember hunting skulls for the Hayabusa armour in Halo 3. The event is hanging around for one week, but don't worry if you can't fully level the event pass in that time. 343 Industries confirms that the event will be available for one week every month throughout Season 1, which runs until May. Progress carries over, too, so you've got until a good stretch of time to get all your duds. RELATED LINKS: Halo Infinite release date, Halo Infinite system requirements, Halo Infinite ranks |
Genshin Impact events – all current and upcoming events Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:00 AM PST ![]() Want to know more about the upcoming Genshin Impact events? A new version of Genshin Impact arrives every six weeks, complete with new characters, quests, and events. It's difficult to keep track of which events are currently running and if there are any new ones coming soon, so here's a schedule for all current and upcoming Genshin Impact events. Genshin Impact has a number of events running simultaneously, and they aren't just in-game events. When a new Genshin Impact character joins the game, the devs launch a web event at the same time - players learn about the latest characters through an interactive story told through a web browser. The rewards for completing different events range from in-game items like primogems and mora, to real life prizes like mouse mats and plushies. Just like the Genshin Impact banners, most events are only available for a limited time, so it's worth participating as soon as you can. New events are usually added to Genshin Impact after an update, but it's worth keeping an eye out on this page as the devs do like to surprise the community. Age of Empires 3: DE’s Mexico DLC adds the “most strategically diverse civilization yet” Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:11 AM PST ![]() Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition launched a year ago this month, and there's been plenty to sink your teeth into since then, including - most recently - a big anniversary-themed bash with new maps, "tons" of Inca updates, and more. Now, Forgotten Empires and Tantalus Media have announced that there's a new DLC coming up very soon for the remastered strategy game - and it'll bring "the most strategically diverse civilization yet". The AoE III: DE Mexico DLC brings - yep, you guessed it - the civilization of Mexico to the game when it launches on December 1. "In Age III: DE, the burgeoning Mexican States can choose to revolt instead of advancing to the Fortress, Industrial, or Imperial Ages," the devs reveal. "Each revolt offers you a whole new deck full of opportunities." Unlike the game's other civs, Mexico can reverse these revolts and then return to Mexico, all while still "retaining access to the benefits of any cards sent during the revolution". There'll be a brand-new set of Federal States which you can use to "evolve your gameplay", and the devs say that the Mexico civ can "adapt to any strategic situation like no other" - so it sounds like the DLC will throw something pretty new and innovative into the mix. Which New World faction should you pick? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:56 AM PST ![]() Wondering which faction you should pick in New World? After picking your New World server, one of the most important choices you'll make in the open-world MMO is your faction allegiance. If you're unfamiliar with Amazon's new game, there's a few things that distinguish it from your usual MMO game; there are no classes, you can only have one character per server, and the player base is split into three factions: Marauders, Syndicate, and Covenant. The faction you choose has a big impact on your gameplay. After selecting one, you cannot join a different faction for the next 120 days, and you are restricted to joining companies - guilds, essentially - that match your faction. If you opt-in to New World PvP, you can be attacked by players of rival factions while outside safe areas. You can also represent your faction in Wars, 50v50 PvP battles, over control of a settlement. The winner gets to be in charge of the settlement's development and tax rates, and also receives buffs in the local area. So, there are plenty of reasons to pledge your allegiance - but how do you decide on your New World faction? Genshin Impact 2.3 release time – Albedo and Eula banner reruns start soon Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:36 AM PST ![]() Mihoyo has revealed when you'll be able to play Genshin Impact's new content, which is pretty neato as that's precisely when Albedo and Eula's banner reruns start. Albedo and Eula's banners run to December 14, at which point Itto and Gorou's banner begins. The new characters are both geo users, though Itto is a five-star bruiser with a claymore, whereas the four-star general Gorou wields a bow and looks better suited to support duties. Their banner starts right when Albedo and Eula's end, so you won't be waiting around for long. Once the Genshin Impact 2.3 release date hits, you're also getting a string of new events and gadgets to help you see things out until update 2.4 arrives. Hearthstone Fractured in Alterac Valley card reveal – meet Brasswing Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:00 AM PST ![]() The final Hearthstone card reveal season of 2021 is upon us, which means we have something special to show off. The next Hearthstone expansion takes players to the snowy landscape of Alterac Valley, a popular battleground for Horde and Alliance forces to fight against each other. Remember the mercenaries from the Forged in the Barrens expansion? They're returning to the game as powerful Hero cards with game-changing abilities this time around. This expansion also introduces Objectives, a new type of spell that has effects which last for three turns. These spells have the potential to turn the tide of battle when played early in a match, but you may have to sacrifice a turn's worth of mana first. We also have a new keyword: Honorable Kill. Cards with the new keyword gain a bonus effect when they kill minions with exact damage, which leads us to our card reveal. We're pleased to reveal Brasswing, an epic eight-cost minion that's exclusive to the Paladin class. Featuring a whopping nine attack and seven health, Brasswing is a dangerous threat to most minions. The text on the card reads: "At the end of your turn, deal two damage to all enemies. Honourable Kill: Restore four Health to your hero." Stellaris’ next species pack features aquarium ships and a space dragon Posted: 22 Nov 2021 01:39 PM PST ![]() November 22, 2021: Stellaris' Aquatics Species Pack is available now. Stellaris has another species pack coming out to coincide with the release of the grand strategy game's 3.2 'Herbert' update. The Aquatics Species Pack, as you might well guess, adds an oceanic origin, along with a marine-themed new civic, trait, and ascension perk. The Aquatic people fly through space in capital ship-sized aquariums, and seek to please the dragon that circles their homeworld. Playing with the aquatic origin, you'll begin on a peaceful ocean homeworld. There's one issue, though: it's orbited by a mythical space dragon, whose attitude toward you and your people will determine whether it protects or seeks to destroy you. Apart from that, the aquatics' new Anglers civic means you'll be able to take advantage of the bounties of the sea, and thrive on other oceanic worlds. For planets that aren't quite as watery, don't worry: the new hydrocentric ascension perk means you'll be able to terraform other worlds, even importing oceans from other planets if need be. To help do that, you'll have a full fleet of ships that function as interstellar aquariums, accompanied by a new adviser who has a distinctive 'Seafarer' voice. Total Warhammer 3’s Nurgle campaign sounds like an entirely new game Posted: 22 Nov 2021 01:03 PM PST ![]() There's been quite a lot going on with strategy games in the past few weeks, and so we've only just had the chance to sit down and read the latest Total War blog entry detailing Nurgle campaign mechanics in Total War: Warhammer III. Each of the daemonic factions in Total Warhammer III has introduced all new ideas to the game, but Nurgle might be playing a new game altogether. As befits his lore, the Plague God doesn't spread through normal means - Nurgle's influence is literally infectious. Buildings, for instance, work differently for Nurgle-aligned factions. These are growths rather than brick-and-mortar structures, and they all have a cycle of life, death, and rebirth. During each phase, structures will confer different bonuses or produce units, and you can learn to control this cycle by researching various technologies and upgrades. Nurgle units are summoned immediately, although they won't start out at full strength - this system will be familiar if you've played Total War: Three Kingdoms or Thrones of Britannia: A Total War Saga. Their ranks will fill up over the course of the next several turns, although you can speed that up by researching the right techs. Sea of Thieves has kicked off its big two-part Thanksgiving bash Posted: 22 Nov 2021 10:16 AM PST ![]() Leading a life of plunder on the high seas doesn't mean a person can't feel gratitude, and to prove it, Sea of Thieves has kicked off its Feast of Bounty event, coinciding with the American observance of Thanksgiving. From now through November 29, players can participate in two sets of challenges in the pirate game to prepare for and then celebrate the annual feast. The Feast of Bounty event is split into two phases, each with its own set of challenges. The preparation phase is underway now, and it involves five tasks. First, you'll want to collect a free Feast of Bounty flag from Larinna at the tavern. After that, you'll help prepare for the feast by cooking pieces of chicken or pork, shark or snake, megalodon or kraken, and any kind of fish. Finish all these by the time the festival ends, and you'll earn yourself a nice Feast of Bounty makeup look. The celebration phase begins November 25, and will introduce its own set of challenges. However, you'll still be able to work on challenges from the preparation phase during this time, so don't worry. Medieval 2: Total War cheats and console commands Posted: 22 Nov 2021 08:18 AM PST ![]() So, you want some Medieval 2: Total War cheats? Using console commands to get a leg up in videogames is a time honoured tradition, although it seems to be more commonly associated with strategy games given their nature. Not every game has them (Civ 6, for example, is oddly absent of cheat codes), but plenty others do. Medieval 2: Total War is still pretty popular, even after all this time, and being an older Total War game it still retains that more hardcore sensibility that can make it extremely tough at times. But never fear - cheat codes are here! Whether you need to give yourself more money, or give one of your characters a specific trait, there's plenty of options to make your game easier. We've put together this guide to cheats and console commands for the game, to help give you a leg up. A special shoutout to Steam user Sir_Calcium1066, who put together a more comprehensive guide on the subject. We haven't included anything that involves editing game files, as that's more akin to modding than using a traditional 'cheat'. Posted: 22 Nov 2021 09:13 AM PST ![]() What are the best Minecraft seeds? Minecraft seeds are codes that the game uses to generate worlds for you - worlds full of interesting landscapes and key landmarks ripe for exploration. They cover everything from jaw-dropping vistas and landscapes to thrilling dungeons filled to bursting with loot. Your job is simple: pick the one you want to play around in, whether that's a great spawn location or an idyllic landscape. To get a seed up and running, all you have to do is grab the digits and place them into the seed field when you're next creating a Minecraft world. The game will do all the heavy lifting, leaving you to explore and create beautiful Minecraft seeds to your heart's content. Regardless of whether you're a professional miner or someone about to load up their first world, there's something you can't control in Minecraft: the terrain itself. While your mind may be brimming with possibilities, all too frequently you'll spawn in a bland, uninspiring world full of flat grassland and the odd chicken. Hardly the canvas for your masterpiece. Hence this article, a complete collection of the best Minecraft seeds, from the inspiring to the functional and everything in between. Posted: 22 Nov 2021 08:15 AM PST ![]() So, you want to know about the best 4X games? At its core this type of experience allows the player to do four things; eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate, and eXplore. 4X games can end up giving players an incredible story as they make the long journey towards the finish line. Many even relish the turn-based focus as it allows players to think before each move, and yet still allow control over vast empires and globe-spanning endeavours. The term was originally coined by guide writer Alan Emrich in the ancient past of 1993, but the concept of guiding a nation, space fleet, or strange fantasy species across generations through diplomacy, war, and technological progress has always proven to have endless appeal. We've compiled a list of some essential 4X strategy games that you should consider adding to your game library. We're skewing more towards modern titles, as we don't think yet another list touting MOO2 as the grand 4X daddy does the gaming community any real service. While these games have helped shape the genre there are plenty of new entries that are trying to leave their own mark and we believe they deserve the attention more than the old legacies. Genshin Impact’s Shenhe and Yun Jin have been revealed Posted: 22 Nov 2021 07:33 AM PST ![]() Genshin Impact is getting two new characters called Yun Jin and Shenhe. The pair have sporadically popped up in datamines over the past year, but Mihoyo has now confirmed on Twitter that they are real, continuing a trend of introducing characters before they're due to get a banner. Shenhe is a cryo user who wields a polearm in battle. She hails from a clan of exorcists and is a disciple of an adeptus called Cloud Retainer, who chooses to take the form of a white crane for what it's worth. Mihoyo further fleshes out her background by sharing that, of all the pupils Cloud Retainer has taken on, Shenhe bears the closest resemblance to her. Shenhe thinks she's neat, too - believing her to be a "knowledgeable and chatty" master. Yun Jin is also fond of the polearm but uses the geo element. She holds the position of Yun-Han Opera Troupe's director and is described as a "famous figure in Liyue Harbor's opera scene". We caught a glimpse of her in a recent Moonchase Festival cutscene, though she had been teased in several voice lines long before that. Gorgeous space RTS game Falling Frontier is delayed and I think I might cry Posted: 22 Nov 2021 07:11 AM PST ![]() I was quite taken with space strategy game Falling Frontier when it debuted at E3 earlier this year, and now I'm a bit sad to hear that it's been delayed into 2022. The passion project of solo developer Todd D'Arcy, under the banner of Stutter Fox Studios, Falling Frontier presents a grounded sci-fi world (with select tropes such as jump drives) where the player must carefully explore and expand their control across procedurally generated star systems. "Most of Falling Frontier's systems are in place for our Early Access launch," D'Arcy says in the press release, "but I want to take the necessary time to get the game to its best possible state before players get their hands on it." This space game seemingly has everything - ship design, logistics, tactical RTS combat, plus it's really pretty. Accompanying the delay news is a new trailer that shows off more in-action footage, from how waystations work, to retrofitting ships on the fly, to a new 'Search and Rescue' mission type where you can either recover your own officers floating in space, or capture enemy agents to interrogate for intelligence. Hitman 3 VR, ray tracing, and more comes to gaming PCs in Year 2 2022 update Posted: 22 Nov 2021 07:21 AM PST ![]() In our Hitman 3 review, we said the game was a "fitting farewell to one of the best stealth series of the last decade", but it appears the game's developer isn't quite finished with their best barcoded bald boy. In a news post and YouTube video, IO Interactive announced several updates we can expect in the game's 'Year 2' update, including support for VR, ray tracing, and gameplay changes. Prior to this announcement, the only way that Hitman 3 could be played in virtual reality was via the PS4 or PS5's PSVR headset. However, support for PC VR headsets will come to the game in January, 2022. IO Interactive promises that "full technical details, including the platforms that we're supporting, will be revealed before Year 2 starts on 20 January 2022." Regardless of what headsets are supported, it's safe to say that those with the best VR headsets will enjoy a decidedly sharper and smoother assassination experience compared to PSVR.
