| Explore this stylish Grade II-listed house in Cheltenham bursting with character Posted: 10 Apr 2021 05:00 AM PDT There are so many little details that make this home in Cheltenham special – from its interesting history (the house dates back to 1830) to its cantilevered staircase and ceiling mouldings. Located in Ashford Road, just south of the town centre, this house is in part of The Suffolks, an area considered to be one of Cheltenham’s most fashionable residential locations.
Part of an attractive and prominent terrace of six houses, this Grade II-listed property features four bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus some mighty fine period details – and it’s all set over four floors. Fancy a look around? Ashford RoadLiving room![]() Image credit: Knight Frank There are two large open-plan reception rooms, divided by parliament hinged doors. Here, in the main living room, you’ll spot sash-hung windows, an ornate fireplace and beautiful cornicing. The blue rug and sofa look great against the neutral backdrop and keep the space feeling calming, white an oversized pendant light and various modern artworks add a grown-up vibe to the scheme. Reception room![]() Image credit: Knight Frank The second of the reception rooms is more of a snug, with a large loveseat and cosy chairs and beanbags. The same blue has been carried through into this room, with a painted floor-to-ceiling cupboard providing lots of storage. Again, the room is filled with artwork, but also plenty of photos and small decorative touches, such as the round mirror above the period fireplace, and houseplants to breathe some life into the room. Kitchen![]() Image credit: Knight Frank On the lower ground floor, you’ll find the large bespoke kitchen, which is just made for keen chefs. Its central island unit offers plenty of worktop space, while traditional in-frame cabinetry is painted in a light blue-grey and offers storage for all those pots, pans and other kitchen paraphernalia. Range lovers will appreciate this large stainless-steel oven and you don’t have to worry about feeling chilly in the winter months, as the space also has underfloor heating. Dining area![]() Image credit: Knight Frank On the same floor and part of the kitchen is the dining area, which looks out onto the garden via bi-folding doors. We spy a wine fridge tucked into a spot underneath the stairs, along with extra storage. Pared-back walls mean you could really make this home your own, whatever your style or colour choices. Bedroom![]() Image credit: Knight Frank Upstairs there are four bedrooms in total but we’re going to show you the master. How stylish does this space look, with its white-framed four-poster, log-filled fireplace and two blue-painted made-to-fit wardrobes? ![]() Image credit: Knight Frank On the other side of the bedroom you’ll see a desk area – ideal if you’re working from home – with large windows that allow the space to fill with light. Bathroom![]() Image credit: Knight Frank Roll-top tub anyone? You know you’re in a luxurious property when the bath can afford to be located in the centre of the room, with plenty of space surrounding it and an elegant fireplace nearby. And, whether you’re a shower or bath lover, this en-suite caters to both. | How to make home office organisation with fabric – no-sew solutions for a pretty study Posted: 10 Apr 2021 04:00 AM PDT Prettify your working-from-home space by learning how to make home office organisation with fabric by Joules. Many of us have created make-shift work spaces in areas of our homes. Maybe it’s a sneaky corner of the kitchen or you’ve transformed your bedroom into a part-time boardroom.
Keep your documents, stationery and mind (!) organised with handy fabric-covered storage boxes. Notice boards are ideal for pinning memos and photos, while hanging storage is great for tucking away other essentials. Here’s how to make them… How to make home office organisation with fabrics by Joules![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Hobbycraft has devised these fun and creative projects using its new and exclusive range of Joules fabrics. Inspired by the lifestyle brand’s heritage style, think elegant florals, classic stripes and British wildlife prints. The collection of Joules fabrics is available online and in-store as fat quarters, cotton fabric rolls and by the metre. How to make fabric noticeboards![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft The first of our no-sew solutions for making home office organisation is super easy, though it does require you to invest in a staple gun. Don’t worry though – it’s one of those tools you’ll use again and again. You will need
1. Position the fabric on the canvas![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Lay a piece of fabric right (patterned) side down on a flat surface. Place a stretched canvas upside down on top of the fabric. Make sure there is at least 10cm excess around all edges. Buy now: Joules Ocean Bloom cotton fat quarters 4 pack, £7, Hobbycraft 2. Begin folding the fabric![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Fold the fabric over one side of the canvas so it’s smooth and taut. Staple gun to secure in place. Be careful not to staple over any staples already in the canvas. Buy now: Black staple gun, £8, Hobbycraft 3. Staple the fabric in placeAdd additional staples to secure the first side. Aim for one staple every 5-10cm. 4. Secure the other side![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Repeat for the opposite side of the canvas. Remember to make sure there are no wrinkles in the fabric but do not overstretch it. 5. Finish your noticeboard![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft For the final sides, fold the fabric edges like you are wrapping a gift. Secure in place as before. Position on the wall and use push pins to add memos, notes and postcards.
How to make fabric boxes![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft You will need
1. Measure and cut your fabricMeasure your square box. Cut two strips of fabric, each 2cm wider than the base and long enough to cover two sides and the base, plus an extra 10cm. Buy now: Mache box 22cm, £5, Hobbycraft For example, for a 22cm square box, the strips will be 64cm long (22cm base + two 16cm sides + 10cm).
2. Hem the short edges![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Hem the short edges of one fabric piece. Do this by folding over each short edge once, press with a hot iron, then sew in place with a 3.5mm straight stitch. Buy now: Singer M1605 sewing machine, £100, Hobbycraft 3. Add double-sided tape
Add some strong double-sided tape to the sides and base of the box (as pictured). Buy now: Stix 2 Anything double-sided ultra sticky tape, £8, Hobbycraft 4. Stick down the first side![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Lay the hemmed fabric flat, right sides down. Place the box in the centre of the fabric. Peel off the backing from the tape. Carefully fold one side of the fabric up so the hemmed edge tucks into the open box. Press the fabric in place so it’s stuck to the outer side of the box as well as inside. 5. Stick down the opposite side![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Repeat for the opposite side of the fabric and box. You’ll be left with a flap of fabric on either side. Stick down with double sided tape. 6 Hem the other fabric piece![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Return to the second piece of fabric you cut in step 1. Hem all four edges. When hemming the long edges, fold over enough fabric so the final piece is the same width as the base of your box. 7. Cover the rest of the box![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Stick tape to the two sides of the box not covered in fabric. Place the box on the hemmed fabric piece, right sides down. Fold the fabric round the sides of the box and stick in place. The hemmed long edges should line up neatly with the box edges. 8. Cover the lid![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Cover the lid of the box in the same way. You will need to use a smaller piece of fabric. Once the fabric is stuck to the lid, fold the remaining raw edges in by 1-2cm, then fold the fabric up and over the edges of the lid. Stick in place with tape.
How to make hanging storage for paperwork![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft This is a great small home office idea as it clears your desk of paperwork where drawer space is limited. You will need
1. Cut out your backing fabric![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Cut 44cm x 52cm from fabric. Apply lightweight interfacing to the wrong side. Then fold in half lengthways, with the wrong side facing outwards. Buy now: Joules Ocean Bloom cotton fat quarters 4 pack, £7, Hobbycraft 2. Stitch the fabric![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Stitch down the long edge and one of the shorter edges using a 1cm seam allowance. Trim the corners close to the stitching. Buy now: Singer M1605 sewing machine, £100, Hobbycraft Turn the right way out through the open short edge. Press flat with a hot iron. 3. Fold in the raw edges![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Tuck the remaining raw edges inside by 5-10cm. Press flat but do not sew shut. 4. Cut and sew the hanging strips![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft For the hanging strips, cut 12cm x 20cm from a contrasting fabric. Fold in half lengthways with right sides facing. Stitch the long edge with a 1cm seam allowance. This will create a tube. 5. Turn out and press![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Turn the tube right sides out. Lay flat so the seam is in the middle and press. Fold this piece in half widthways so the seam is now hidden. 6. Insert into the backing fabric![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Tuck the folded fabric into the open end of the larger piece. Repeat so you have two hanging straps in position. 7. Secure the straps![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Top stitch along the open edge and over the two straps to secure them in place. 8. Cut and sew the pockets![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft For the pocket, cut a 22cm square from fabric. Fold in half, right sides facing. Sew down the two short edges using a 1cm seam allowance. Trim the corners. Turn right sides out. Tuck the raw edges inside by 1-2cm. Press flat. 9. Add the pockets![]() Image credit: Hobbycraft Pin the pocket to the backing piece. Position with the open edge at the bottom. Top stitch in place with a 3.5mm straight stitch along the bottom and both sides. Repeat to make two more pockets.
10. Hang up your wall storageThread wooden dowels through the hanging straps at the top of the storage. Tie string to the dowels and hang from a hook or nail. Visit Hobbycraft’s Ideas Hub for more Joules sewing projects to make. Or just sit back and enjoy your neat and tidy home office. | See how one DIYer achieved a designer-look plant pot for a fraction of the price Posted: 10 Apr 2021 02:00 AM PDT One savvy DIYer managed to save £124 on a designer look-a-like plant pot thanks to a genius Instagram plant pot hack. When Hannah Goodwin saw a plant pot hack on Instagram, she knew she wanted to give it a go herself. Channelling the look of the classic Hourglass planter by Ferm Living, which costs £159 for a medium-size, Hannah gathered some materials and followed instructions that she’d seen online. Doing it herself, Hannah has got the look for much less and the end result is pretty impressive. Sat on an elevated stand, the roomy plant pot features the same hourglass shape and sculpture-like appearance, all for a lesser cost. Designer-look plant pot hack![]() Image credit: Hannah Goodwin To start with, Hannah bought two terracotta plant pots from Homebase for £9.95 each – you want ones with a good ‘moon-shaped’ silhouette to them. Using one as the bottom pot, Hannah covered the drainage hole inside with Frogtape. Sticking the pots together![]() Image credit: Hannah Goodwin ‘I turned the bottom pot over, and put a generous amount of adhesive on the “top”, then placed the other pot on top of that,’ Hannah says. After leaving the pots for an hour to adhere, Hannah filled in the drainage hole of the top pot with bathroom silicone to make sure it was waterproof for when she watered her plants. Painting the pots![]() Image credit: Hannah Goodwin The next job was to paint the two pots and Hannah chose to go with a matt jet black colour. ‘I used my favourite paint from a previous project – Blackjack from Frenchchic,’ she says. Buy now: Blackjack Chalk & Mineral Furniture Paint, £9.95 for 250ml, Frenchchic The final result![]() Image credit: Hannah Goodwin ‘Voila!’ says Hannah. ‘My beautiful hourglass plant pot cost me under £35! It was really easy to do..’ It might be a simple make, but it’s effective and ideal if you want to give your plants a bit of height in a pot that looks like it cost at least double what you paid for materials. You could make a smaller version to sit alongside it, then place them inside, on a balcony or in the garden. Wherever you choose, this plant pot is guaranteed to add a touch of style. You can see more of Hannah’s decorating and DIY over at Instagram here.

| The 5 Primark homeware buys we can't wait to shop when stores open on Monday Posted: 09 Apr 2021 11:00 PM PDT There are a few things we’re looking forward to getting back to doing on 12th April – getting our hair done, popping down to the pub. However, above all else, we can’t wait to get back to Primark!
One of our favourite one-stop shops for on-trend budget homeware, the last three months have broken our hearts to only be able to peruse the brand’s offerings on Instagram. However, to celebrate the fact we can finally head back into the store we have picked the five things we can’t wait to buy from the new homeware range, the Primark Foundation Collection. Even our Editor, Heather Young, can’t wait to get through those doors again. ‘Having moved house just before lockdown, I’ve been desperately waiting for restrictions to ease so I can go on a real-life shopping spree for my new place,’ says Heather. ![]() Image credit: Primark ‘I’ve covered the basics online, but it’s the finishing touches I’ve been holding off buying until I can browse the shelves in person. There’s something about being able to touch the products. To see what they look like together that’s like catnip to an interiors obsessive like me!’ Luckily the new range has shown us everything we’ve been missing from Primark – on-trend pieces at incredible prices. The new collection embraces minimalist vibes, offering clever and stylish storage solutions, and neutral soft furnishings. Every room is covered in the new collection with a range of stunning wooden plates and serving boards for the kitchen, plus waffle throws and textured cushions for the bedroom and living room. ![]() Image credit: Primark ‘It's been a difficult time for a lot of us and we wanted to give a sense of comfort and calm back to our customers with our latest Foundation Collection,’ explains Sinead McDonagh, Global Designer Home, Lifestyle and Beauty at Primark. ‘We want to help our customers make their home their sanctuary, a place of calm where they can retreat from the world.’ ‘Soft tones of warm neutrals, mindful greys and uplifting ecru infuse the collection for tranquillity. We bring nature indoors by adding subtle botanical prints and delicate dried florals,’ adds Sinead. Here are the five homeware pieces we can’t wait to scoop up from the new collection. Primark Foundation Collection1. Primark Wicker Storage Box![]() Image credit: Primark The one thing we have learnt from this year is that storage solution are essential for a happy (organised) home, especially when working from home with kids. This straw wicker version is bang on trend and a dead ringer for IKEA’s Branaes Basket, but £3 cheaper at £9. These make perfect living room storage ideas when stacked in a cupboard or on a shelf, not only are they practical but they also look pretty. Buy in-store: Straw Wicker basket, £9, Primark 2. Primark Beige Face Vase![]() Image credit: Primark On the less practical side of the spectrum is this stunning vase. We wouldn’t blame you for thinking that this came from a high-end homeware store, rather than Primark. This vase makes a statement and would look beautiful holding a bunch of dried flowers, or left as it is. Buy in-store: Face Vase, £5, Primark 3. Primark Wooden Chopping Boards![]() Image credit: Primark All over Instagram chopping boards have become the ultimate kitchen decor accessory. Layered together against a splashback, or hung on walls as a culinary take on the gallery wall. These chunky glossy serving boards come in two sizes and at £5.50 for the largest size, this is a trend you can afford to dabble in. Buy in-store: Chopping board, £5.50, Primark 4. Primark Linen Fray Cushion![]() Image credit: Primark Cushions have become our guilty shopping pleasure this last year, however, the key to making a cushion display work is textures. A neutral colour palette can be bought to life with a little texture like in these linen cushions. The subtle fraying criss-cross design lifts these cushion covers to the next style level. Buy in-store: Linen Fray Cushion cover, £2, Primark 5. Primark Waffle Throw![]() Image credit: Primark We can’t resist a waffle throw, it’s so simple but a must if you’re working from home on a chilly day, or sitting in the garden with friends. Priced at £12 this grey blanket looks more luxe than its price suggests. Buy in-store: Waffle throw, £12, Primark
Primark is reopening its doors on Monday morning. To accommodate the legion of excited shoppers the store has confirmed that it will be extending its opening hours to cope with the queues.
