A cosy Country Pub part of the Vintage Inns group serving British, comfort food classics with a large dining area and pub garden, popular with families. I can only comment on the Sunday Dinner experience so far, but may return to try more...
A few weeks ago we decided to visit The Admiral Rodney for Sunday Dinner as we had heard good things previously and it had been on the list for a while. We did pre-book and it was probably a good idea as the pub was busy.
The pub's menu may vary and refresh every so often but on the Sunday Roasts offer was a choice of either Sirloin of Beef, Turkey Breast, Pork Belly, or a Trio of all three and of course there's a Vegetable Roast option too. Each dinner comes with beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, thyme-roasted carrots, broccoli, honey-roasted parsnips and gravy. The dinners are priced roughly between £13 - £16 and you can add extras at an additional price.
Although it is table service, we seemed to be waiting an awful long time for our drinks that I spotted were sat on the bar a while and I was tempted to just get them myself... but staff did apologise for the wait.
The Sunday Roasts were nice, I wouldn't say I was blown away by them, but they hit the spot. The dishes seemed slightly inconsistent for example my carrots were missing, some of the potatoes seemed quite burnt, and I seemed to have a lot more meat having chose the Turkey, than Ben who opted for Beef. That said the meals were filling and tasty and although the plates looked misleadingly like small portions, we were very full after.
So yeah, I think overall a few tweaks were needed to make this a really good experience, but otherwise generally a nice Sunday Dinner. I have eaten at Vintage Inns before and consider them to be quite nice, so maybe I will be back to try more, who knows?
