The heart of the matter: Riposa | News | Architonic Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:00 PM PDT It doesn't take much to get a good night's sleep: 'A cosy room, a good mattress and a clear conscience,' says Reta Schnellmann. Together with her sister Iva Schnellmann, she took over the family-run Riposa business in the canton of Glarus from Walter Schnellmann and Max Rickenbacher in 2018. When the two entrepreneurs start talking about sleep, the layperson quickly realises that there's a great deal of passion involved. And the sisters certainly know how to transfer the emotional factors associated with sleep to their products. The first thing you learn is that a mattress isn't just a consumer item, it's made with painstaking care and great attention to detail. It starts with selecting the materials, extends through the numerous steps in the production process, which are still carried out by hand at the Bilten site, and ends with the quality label that is stamped on every single Riposa product. Inside the mattress, or at the heart of the matter, as the sisters like to say, the company… continue ![]() |

The art of sustainability: Tecnografica | News | Architonic Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:00 PM PDT To move art beyond the confines of a frame, Italian design brand Tecnografica suggests instead that walls should become canvases. Putting creativity into the hands of the designer, Tecnografica's wallpapers give authentic artworks new scale, depth and dimensions in space – encouraging total creative immersion and escapism. For its special 'Art Collections' series, Tecnografica works directly with artists to develop the most authentic experience of art on wallpaper. Take the latest collection, which profiles Vittorio Giardino, the Italian master comic designer known for his expressive graphic style. Seen unfolding across a wall through space, his colourful, dramatic and dynamic drawings become scenes that are quite literally larger than life. The 'Art Collections' series holds particular appeal for projects seeking a unique and unexpected concept. What could be more captivating than stepping inside the creative world of an artist: 'At this historical moment, when we have spent more time… continue ![]() |
Family matters: Wewood | News | Architonic Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:00 PM PDT Father and son, cousins, family and friends – the woodworkers at Wewood are all related somehow. Finding new craftspeople trained in furniture production is a challenge in Portugal, as formal technical education in it simply doesn't exist. The dedication to this craft is, more often than not, inherited from relatives – where the factory becomes the real school. The foundation of Wewood lies precisely in its joinery. Serious expertise in working with solid wood has been developed over more than five decades, and the company, launched by two second-generation sons in 2012, makes the most of its excellent heritage to scout new markets. Porto is known as the furniture capital of Portugal, and the 'Made in Portugal' stamp is one that is highly considered, but how many brands do we actually know from there? Very few – but this is what the brothers behind Wewood are eager to change. Distinguished production and classy designs, amplified with genuine communication, is their formula. Wewood has… continue ![]() |
Pushing the boat out: Wewood | News | Architonic Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:00 PM PDT Coming from a place that lacks strong traditions when it comes to furniture design compared to some other countries, Portugal's Wewood gladly finds inspiration from beyond its borders. However, Wewood not only cherishes, but also seeks direct influence from, Portugal's own rich history and culture. To fill me in on the brand's visual identity and vision, Wewood shared their mood board, a selection of historic and contemporary curiosities that somehow inspires the forms and colours of the pieces: a mid-century Portuguese flight tag, a white and blue book cover 'Traits of Portuguese Culture', an old Portuguese stamp celebrating the 450th anniversary of the foundation of Goa in India, sunlit landscapes by the sea, and numerous images of hardworking people, fishing, sheep-shearing, sailing, harvesting. Some brands have manifestos, Wewood has this. The mood board reveals something about Wewood's openness, its interest in the past and how the company wishes to make beauty and values from the… continue ![]() |
Paint me a picture: Wewood | News | Architonic Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:00 PM PDT An empty space, a white canvas, how to approach it, where to start? For a painter in front of a blank easel, as for an architect confronting an empty room, there's understandably hesitation and doubt. Composition, colours, proportions and light – how to put everything into balance? How to create contrast, surprise and delight? And what about meaning and significance? Not being able to present its creations at furniture fairs this Spring, Wewood has decided to communicate its latest products and visions in a different way: with an inspirational in-house publication, Wewood presents its ideas of how best to fill in the blanks. Under the artistic direction of its in-house interior design team, the brand is on a mission to explore how to offer architects and interior designers refreshing and durable interior solutions. Through joint efforts with international product designers, young and bold as well as experienced and solid, Wewood suggests a variety of products which all relate. From the… continue ![]() |
