| PUBG is Steam’s top seller again Posted: 02 May 2021 09:45 AM PDT Once again, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is back at the top of the Steam top sellers list. The battle royale game is currently on discount, leading to a surge in new players. From now until May 5, you can get PUBG at 50% off. Plenty have already taken advantage of this price, because the multiplayer game is Steam's top seller for this week. Right below it is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Operation Broken Fang in second - the expansion was only available until April 30, meaning the FOMO likely kicked in hard for many players of the FPS game. Two new arrivals join the chart this week: Total War: Rome Remastered, and Resident Evil Village. Our Joe Robinson called the former a "better remaster than most" in his review. A demo for the latter went live this weekend, and the Resident Evil Village release date being just days away obviously has players looking to be as ready as they can be for Lady Dimitrescu. Valheim moves down from eighth to tenth, and It Takes Two stays in third, only dropping one space from last week. RELATED LINKS: PUBG new map, PUBG weapons, Play PUBG |
| Resident Evil Village player figures out how to reset demo timer on PC Posted: 02 May 2021 08:35 AM PDT The Resident Evil Village PC demo went live last night, and in typically quick fashion, someone's already managed to reset the clock so they can play it over and over. As is, the demo is set to a timer, giving you one hour to roam the grounds of the castle, and surrounding village. Once those 60 minutes are up, you'll need to wait for the horror game to come out. Granted the Resident Evil Village release date is now mere days away, but still, sometimes people like to poke around these things, and get a broader sense of what's coming. Steam user Leaves has worked out how to avoid that restriction, letting you replay the hour to your heart's desire. They posted the exploit on Steam, but the steps are as follows: Disable Steam Cloud, download Steam SAM, delete your local savefiles (usually in [Steam ID]/1541780/remote/win64_save), start Steam SAM, start the demo, take away achievements and stats, and confirm. It's a bit of a process, but the end result is getting to have another run around Village's ominously European setting. |
| Fake Animal Crossing: New Horizons listed on Microsoft Store Posted: 02 May 2021 07:51 AM PDT Like many Nintendo series, Animal Crossing is not, and is unlikely to ever be, on PC. However, one developer has managed to get a fake version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons onto the Microsoft Store. Nintendeals highlighted the listing on April 30, warning people not to buy what was very obviously not Animal Crossing, nor an official Nintendo game of any description. At time of writing, two days later, it's still up, and according to the store page, it's been there since March 23. The game is using the New Horizons cover art and title, but looks like some form of endless runner about getting animals across busy city streets, like Frogger, but y'know, not. To be clear: the actual Animal Crossing does not involve any animals having to cross anything. This is a wholly unrelated game, costing $2.99, that's been added to Microsoft's platform. It bears a strong resemblance to 2014's Crossy Road, a free game that's received a bit of mainstream attention. If nothing else, developer HugoStudioLab has highlighted a potential blind spot in the Microsoft Store's moderation. | Possible Battlefield 6 images leak, reveal may be imminent Posted: 02 May 2021 09:21 AM PDT A pair of images purported to be from Battlefield 6 have emerged online, ahead of the FPS game's imminent reveal. A content creator familiar with the sequel says the screenshots are legit, and from an upcoming trailer. The first of the two pictures shows aircraft descending on a sunny island, while the second is from the cockpit's perspective, looking at a rocket about to launch off the island during a storm. Tom Henderson, a personality who's verified the shots, says the official teaser for Battlefield 6 starts off tranquil and warm, and ends rainy and miserable, demonstrating the dynamic weather that'll be part of the multiplayer game "in a spectacular way". Henderson had put up sketches of a couple of screens back in April, and these new pictures are close to what he'd shared. He speculates that it's possible the leaker grabbed these images from a bad connection, and that it looks like a first draft of the trailer. Speaking to the low visual fidelity, Henderson says it's probable they were "captured via zoom or something like that", adding that "We're not long away now." | Turn Skyrim into a pub crawl with this mod Posted: 02 May 2021 04:53 AM PDT When you're playing Skyrim, sometimes you want do a bit of dungeon-crawling, and sometimes you just want to go on the piss. Here's a mod that turns Tamriel into one gigantic, convenient pub crawl. Made by Trace and jchaney, Pub House Crawl connects all the drinking establishments in the RPG game through a fast-travel system that lets you hop from one to the other with ease. At the entrance of every inn or tavern, you'll find a port key above the door that takes you to a pocket dimension that's just a giant map of Skyrim, and Solstheim, with every watering hole marked for your perusal. "About 150 years ago there was very powerful and talented Nord wizard. He was especially good at creating portals. He could have been great, but, enjoyed his drink a bit too much," reads the description on Nexus. "He died an untimely death when, in response to a drunken dare issued by Sanguine, he created a portal into a star. Fortunately for us he accomplished his first great goal in life, a way to get to all the pubs and inns in Skyrim without having to go out into the cold." | Elden Ring could be out by March 2022 Posted: 02 May 2021 04:08 AM PDT We've had what appears to be another leak of Elden Ring footage, and a potential release window for the RPG game. FromSoftware's parent company has publicly acknowledged the upcoming game, and implied we could see it within the next year. In its financial results for the last fiscal year (ta, VGC), Kadokawa Corporation, which owns FromSoftware, says the plan is to release new games before the end of March 2022. Elden Ring is given its own slide in the report, possibly indicating that the Souls-like game could come out in the next 12 months. Previous reports had stated that a 2021 release was unlikely, due to COVID-19 related delays, which Kadokawa acknowledge here, but the first few months of 2022 could be it. Alongside this, six more seconds of footage of the action-adventure game may have leaked. The murky clip, featuring a couple of different environments full of FromSoft's trademark foreboding architecture, appears to be from the same video as the other nine seconds or so that managed to makes its way to the internet earlier this year. |
