The future of hands in VR is absolutely filthy

Posted: 01 May 2021 09:52 AM PDT

Half-Life: Alyx is a fabulous VR game, in which gravity gloves allow you to use items in the environment to fight headcrabs and Combine in myriad ways. Now if only you could caress these creatures, then perhaps you could try and make friends with them... Now that would be interesting.

Hand Physics Lab is a game recently released on Oculus Quest which has no monsters to caress, but it does have a cat to pet and several mini-games and other toys to tinker with. It looks to have hand physics and finger manipulation that are already more impressive than Half-Life's, but a recent video of a future update suggests it's going to be even better soon. And utterly obscene.

I wrote last weekend that Titanfall 2 was enjoying a substantial resurgence in popularity on Steam thanks to its links with the imminent launch of Apex Legends season nine. Now the player numbers are even higher because it's free this weekend on Steam.

Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight Movie is reality TV gold

Posted: 01 May 2021 08:38 AM PDT

Double Fine's documentary series on the making of Broken Age is still, to my mind, the best videogame-related documentary. It was revealing in a way few game documentaries are, helping to demystify the development process, while also allowing you to revel in the dream of friendly, creative people doing friendly, creative work.

Consider me excited therefore at the release of The Amnesia Fortnight Movie, a new two-hour documentary which focuses on four games being made in ten days for Double Fine's internal game jam in 2019. It's free and on YouTube and embedded below.

The Red Strings Club devs' next game is actually a ten game collection

Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:06 PM PDT

You may know Deconstructeam from their cyberpunk bartending story game The Red Strings Club, but they've made other games. Several other games, actually, which they're pulling into a colleciton called Essays On Empathy. Essays includes a bunch of previously released Deconstructeam story romps along with their new game De Tres Al Cuarto about a couple comedians trying to make it big together. Essays On Empathy is launching on May 18th, and you can snag a peek at what it includes in a new trailer.

Outriders releases its biggest patch yet, inventory wipe fix still coming

Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:16 PM PDT

Class-based shooter romp Outriders has been on a ride this month, tackling bugs and issues since its April 1 launch date. People Can Fly solved crossplay issues earlier this month but have still been struggling with an inventory bug that's been snatching the loot out of players' pockets. They're still working on that one, they say, but their biggest patch to date solves other problems like crashes, a sign in issue, and a long list of other improvements.

Resident Evil Village's baddies make adorable puppets, somehow

Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:49 AM PDT

Well well, looks like it's casual Friday over in the village. The deadly baddies of upcoming horror sequel Resident Evil Village have all cast off their spooky faces and transformed into puppets. Yes, including your favorite large lady Alcina Dimitrescu. She's joined by the felty faces of Mother Miranda's other lords for a silly little skit. Actually, one of them's a puppet twice over, somehow. They do look quite cute this way though, even when they're murdering each other.
