| Architecture: Not for the Faint of Heart with Meeta Morrison Posted: 28 May 2021 09:00 AM PDT Meeta Morrison | MMD Architecture
Meeta Morrison says that she had the desire to make and build things starting from a very young age. She didn't know what an architect was, but she used materials at hand to create things anyway. Early on, Meeta says that she was encouraged to become a physician because she was good at math and science and at school generally. But when she was 16, she took her first drafting class, and she was good at and enjoyed that. But her school counselor at the time told her that women don't become architects. Meeta wanted to be successful and felt a responsibility to her family to do well financially, so she chose a different major. However, Meeta says that she was unhappy during her first year at college and came to the conclusion that she made the wrong decision. At the time, she was on track to become a chemical engineer but wasn't happy with the work. She took an art history class that contained a lot of information about architecture and became interested in that again, but her college wouldn't allow her to transfer into the architecture school. Meeta decided that she would get her degree in something else, then go back to architecture school. But her path was convoluted. Life interfered – she got married and started a family, had to make moves, and spent time supporting her husband's career choice while trying to get back to her own. In today's episode, Meeta talks about how she got back into architecture, got her degree, and got licensed. She also discusses how she became a business owner running her how architecture firm.
