The Family Friendly, Kid-Appropriate Sweet Tooth Is Getting A Season 2!

Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:52 AM PDT

The premise for the Netflix original series based on a comic book, Sweet Tooth, feels contradictory. It's a post-apocalyptic show about how people turn on each other when the world turns to hell, even resorting to killing one another. Then there are these cute animal-human hybrid kids who may or may not be responsible for the end of the world. But the last remaining people are hunting, killing and experimenting on them. Oh! And I totally forgot: the whole thing is totally family-friendly and kid-appropriate. Yea, you heard me. But the even more surprising part of all of that is that it all totally works. And it works brilliantly. And now, we hear that Sweet Tooth season 2 is confirmed. This is very good news, especially given how season 1 of Sweet Tooth ended.

I can't say enough nice things about Sweet Tooth. You only have to read my Sweet Tooth season 1 review to find out just how much I liked the show. An end of the world series from the perspective of a cute li'l kid is kind of ingenious. It's equal parts terrifying, sweet and ominous. The light-hearted moments are heartwarming, while the horribly suspenseful parts are enough to keep you on edge. It's honestly a great little show, and I’m glad that we now know that Sweet Tooth season 2 is confirmed.

Sweet Tooth season 1 ended on an amazing cliffhanger. While also telling the story of this larger world and its main story, the focus of Sweet Tooth is this little boy named Gus. Gus (Christian Convery) is one of the hybrid kids, that the world believes caused a pandemic that ended the world. But on a smaller scale, Gus is in search of his own origins, more specifically, his mom. The show follows Gus and his journey against the larger story of this new world and how he fits into it. Sweet Tooth season 2 will continue that story, and hopefully taking it on new and exciting paths.

A press release from Netflix confirms that Sweet Tooth season 2 is coming. The series based on a Jeff Lemire comic book from DC Comics can now finish that awesome cliffhanger, which definitely makes me relieved. More often than not, (Netflix) shows that end like that, run the risk of cancellation. With the Sweet Tooth season 2 confirmation, fans can rest easy that the story that was set up, will see some sort of resolution. At least for one more season.

Sweet Tooth season 2 will have a lot to focus on. With Gus finding out about his origins, he'll need to put it all into context. Captured and alone, Gus comes face to face with others like him, diluting his isolation. But what he manages to do with this newfound family, will be intriguing to watch. Showrunner Jim Mickle was just as excited as fans are sure to be, hearing about the season 2 confirmation.

"It's been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy. We couldn't be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey." — Jim Mickle

Given how shows with kid leads work, production should begin on Sweet Tooth soon. In order to prevent the risk of Convery getting older and ageing out of how old he is in the series. Not to mention many of the other kid supporting characters in the series, introduced thus far. No news yet on when Sweet Tooth season 2 will air, much less when production will begin.

Sweet Tooth season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.

Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022

Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:52 AM PDT

How many times have we done this now? The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic certainly isn’t over by any means. That said, the impact of the pandemic is hitting game development teams in a delayed strike. While many games slated for the 2020 release window made their mark, 2021 titles aren’t so lucky. Teams struggled to adapt to normal workflows in socially distanced remote office arrangements. It’s understandable for smaller studios but even big-time teams experience the same struggles. Case in point: Horizon Forbidden West is delayed until 2022 and is yet another casualty in the pandemic’s impact on game developers. Here’s why the team PlayStation Studio decided to delay the game.

Why Was Horizon Forbidden West Delayed?

In a report from Bloomberg, PlayStation Studios will move the release of Horizon Forbidden West to 2022, likely in Q1 or Q2. News of a possible Horizon delay was first mentioned by video game reporter Jeff Grubb on the podcast Giant Bomb. The fantasy action-adventure title is a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, an immediate entry into the Best Exclusive Sony Series Of All Time. It’s a bummer but understandable that a game like Horizon Forbidden West is getting delayed.

Let’s face it: teams are still experiencing major delays due to the pandemic. Game delays happen in a normal world, but the COVID-19 factor heightens these issues. There’s a good chance the game will be better because of the delay, much like other major delays. That said, fans, myself included, will be disappointed not to see this release in 2021. The original slate was for Holiday 2022, which was vague already and raised eyebrows in terms of potential delays. Its predecessor sold more than 10 million copies following its release in 2017. Overall, there is reason to believe this sequel does the same if not more.

If you’re bummed to hear about Horizon Forbidden West getting delayed, then let us know in the comments! Thanks for reading Comic Years for all things gaming, comics, and pop culture.

The Comic Years Podcast: Loki Episode 6 Spoiler Discussion

Posted: 30 Jul 2021 03:22 PM PDT

The ending of Disney Plus' third MCU series Loki, was a bittersweet moment. The show itself was one of the most poignant, meaningful and moving that Marvel Studios has done thus far. Despite being set against the backdrop of, literally, multiple universes, the story was still a deeply personal one. How Marvel was able to create such a beautiful show from one of the franchise’s largest villain turned anti-heroes, still surprises me to this day. With the end of the show, we break it all down in the Loki episode 6 spoiler podcast. The Comic Years team of Joshua M. Patton, Emily O'Donnell, Meghan Hale, Roman Colombo and myself go deep into what it all meant. Confirming theories, making more, and just marvelling at the scope of Loki. Check out this new episode of the Comic Years Podcast.

Loki Episode 6 Spoiler Podcast Touches Upon Many Things

You know that a series is good when discussing it makes the collective minds of five people simultaneously take a noticeable pause to comprehend the discussion. That's just one of the cool things on this episode of the Loki episode 6 spoiler podcast. The show begins with Meghan expressing her disappointment at the love story. The sentiments are echoed by others on the team, and we all to some degree, feel that the finale didn't do justice to the smaller, personal story being told. My only saving grace is that season two of Loki is on its way, and there was no definite conclusion to any of the stories we saw. I mean, no one died. So there will definitely be more of them in season 2.

Is The Multiverse The Infinity Stones Of Phase 4?

One of those things we all want to continue in season 2 is the story of Revonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). One of our more popular theories sees her being the change in the TVA, and potentially a personal acquaintance of Kang (Jonathan Majors). I try my hardest to not let this become 'The Kang Show.' I succeed for the most part, thankfully due to my guests reigning me in. Emily expressed disappointment at the lack of Loki magic, which was a constant in every episode besides the finale.

There is so much more in, what is possibly our longest spoiler discussion of any of the MCU shows thus far. So check out this Loki episode 6 spoiler discussion. Season 1 of Loki is now streaming on Disney Plus.

A Live Action Haunted Mansion Movie Is Coming And May Star Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield

Posted: 30 Jul 2021 01:38 PM PDT

Following in the same vein as Pirates of the Caribbean (apparently there’s going to be a new movie with Margot Robbie?!) and the more recent Jungle Cruise, Disney is once again bringing one of its theme park rides to the big screen. A live action Haunted Mansion movie is set to start filming in Louisiana this fall and will potentially star Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah).

Didn’t We Already Have a Live Action Haunted Mansion Movie?

Yes, we did. You’re probably thinking of the 2003 movie starring Eddie Murphy that…well, bombed. Murphy played a realtor who moves into a haunted mansion with his family and as they’re trying to escape, he learns lessons in just how important his wife and children are. This new Haunted Mansion sounds less cheesy and may potentially elevate the good name of the ride though. Stanfield plays a widower who moves into the titular mansion with his family. He used to believe in the supernatural, but has pushed that aside and works as a jaded tour guide in New Orleans French Quarter. Haddish would play a psychic that’s hired to commune with the dead.

Justin Simien is making his big-budget movie debut after working on projects such as the critically acclaimed Dear White People and the horror film Bad Hair. It will be interesting to see where Simien takes Haunted Mansion, especially since he’s no stranger to incorporating race into the entertainment conversation and the film is taking place in New Orleans, which has a rich and diverse history.

Simien will make his directorial debut with a script written by Katie Dippold. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback will produce and Nick Reynolds (also of Rideback) is executive producing.

What do you think of this second live action Haunted Mansion movie? Let us know in the comments below!
