| Dyson Micro 1.5kg review: Dyson’s lightest vacuum yet is great for small homes Posted: 31 Jul 2021 05:15 AM PDT The Dyson Micro 1.5kg review is one of Dyson's recent launches, alongside a fleet of innovative machines designed to rival some of the best vacuum cleaners on the market. As the name suggests, the Micro 1.5kg is small. So small in fact, that it weighs just 1.5kg. Now that we've cleared up that not-so mysterious name though, here's everything you need to know about it, from someone who's tried it hands-on for over a month. This vacuum cleaner is designed for hard floors, with a soft roller head that miraculously avoids tangles, and a dustbin that ejects smoothly for easy (if not a bit too regular) emptying. I've been putting it to the test on my own floors for the past month for this Dyson Micro 1.5kg review, and here's what I thought Ideal Home's rating: 4 out of 5 starsIt's hard to rank this as one of the best cordless vacuum cleaners, because it has a very specific target market in mind. For those such as myself who just need a neat little vacuum to stay on top of messes, the Dyson Micro 1.5kg is ideal. It won't take the place of more powerful vacuum cleaners though, so if you have carpets, this isn't the vacuum for you. Reasons to buy

| DIY-fan uses a clever hack to recreate luxury brass shelves for just £15 Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:00 AM PDT Metallic finishes are a great way to add a touch of glamour to any bedroom ideas. However, Metallic shelves often come with a hefty price tag for such a small feature, but this clever budget luxury brass shelves hack gets the same look for £15. Interior influencers Reece and Paul, recently shared this clever tip with their Instagram following. Renovating their beautiful Edwardian home in London, the pair have created a luxurious look on a modest budget and the brass shelves that they’ve added in their bedroom are just one of many clever DIY and decorating hacks. Shelves like these would normally cost well over £100, but keen to cut costs, Reece and Paul created a DIY version themselves. Brass shelf hack![]() Image credit: Reece & Paul/ @Littleedwardian Firstly, the pair purchased beautiful, brushed brass sheets from online metal supplier Metals4U, in a 'Satin Polish' finish for just £15. Once they’d popped some wood shelves into the alcove, they then used an electric saw to cut the sheets to their preferred size (making sure to wear protective gloves and eyewear). Then you can simply use Gorilla glue or similar to attach the brass sheets into place on the wood. ![]() Image credit: Reece & Paul/ @Littleedwardian Set into an alcove in their bedroom, we think you’ll agree they look pretty smart and are not only eye-catching, but add a bit of luxe to the scheme. The perfect bedroom storage idea if we do say so ourselves. ‘We love the whole set-up of this room with our new shelves,’ says Reece. ‘Now it’s all tidy and we can carry on with the ever-continuing development of the design.’ ![]() Image credit: Reece & Paul/ @Littleedwardian The pair were so happy with their new shelves, they’ve even gone on to build more of them around the rest of their home, this time using the ‘Bright Polished’ brass sheets. ‘This interior hack shows just how much you can save if you know how to be savvy with materials,’ says Paul McFadyen, managing director at Metals4U. ‘We've seen an increase in metal sheets used for home interiors over the years as people have begun to share more of their renovation experiences across social media and DIY hacks across TikTok.’ Keen to try it yourself? Choose from brass for a golden hue, aluminium for more of a silver shine, or even slate or copper. Just make sure you use the right metal polish to keep them looking their best over time. | This medieval home has been given a contemporary twist with lovely results Posted: 30 Jul 2021 11:00 PM PDT Think period homes are dark and dingy? Think again! Medieval homes can be light inside – and we have proof in the form of this Grade-II listed house that’s currently up for sale. High House is an elegant three-storey period property, and over the years it’s been greatly enlarged and altered, with a lot of its influence taken from the Georgian era. Set at the foot of a hill by Dunster Castle, in Minehead, Somerset, the house has had many of its original architectural features preserved, including open fireplaces, ceiling beams and exposed roof timbers. This period home is pretty exceptional, so get ready to have your eyes opened. High House exterior![]() Image credit: Knight Frank Outside, the property has been protected by a colour-wash render, with a Welsh slate roof and medieval wood front door. Pretty impressive isn’t it? It’s also easy to see how this house is so light, when you take into account all of those windows. Living room![]() Image credit: Knight Frank This house spoils with living room ideas. Inside, you’ll find not one but four well-proportioned reception rooms, including this living room, which has been decorated in true heritage style. That fireplace is pretty impressive and the range of sofas means you’ll be spoilt for choice as to where you sit. Kitchen![]() Image credit: Knight Frank At the back of the house is a charming French farmhouse-style kitchen fitted with a tiled floor, bespoke, painted timber units and a Belfast sink. The bit that caught our eye, though, is the pale-blue Aga nestled into what was probably an old inglenook fireplace, with a tiled surround and hanging copper pans. Matching copper pendant lights also hang over the dining table, which is large enough to seat 12. Adjacent to this room you’ll also find a pantry equipped with a range cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer – everything you need in fact. Dining room![]() Image credit: Knight Frank Just incase you want a more formal table, there’s a dedicated dining space with blue-coloured upholstered chairs that match the window shutters and tie in with the colour scheme elsewhere. Teamed with the rustic wood beams, that powder blue shade is a beautiful match. Bedroom![]() Image credit: Knight Frank High House has five bedrooms – on the first floor you’ll find four double bedrooms (two with en-suite bathrooms), while the second floor is home to the last bedroom, which features a vaulted ceiling fashioned from timbers, believed to have been salvaged from the ships of the Spanish Armada. This bedroom, with its ornate rich-wood four-poster bed and hide rugs feels quite luxurious to us, especially if you look at the little step to help you get into bed more easily. And that lime-green chair and footstool adds contrast, bringing a touch of modern into a very traditional scheme. This room just goes to show sometimes modern and traditional bedroom ideas can be a match made in heaven. Bathroom![]() Image credit: Knight Frank On to the bathroom and this is one of four in High House. We think this bath space is pretty perfect, with its botanical wallpaper, claw-foot roll-top bath and rustic shelf, and once again, open those shutters and this room is flooded with light. Garden![]() Image credit: Knight Frank There’s no shortage of outdoor space with the house – in fact, the homeowners are treated to two separate and adjacent gardens that stretch out behind the house. This one is laid out immediately behind and offers plenty of privacy with the high brick wall that surrounds it. Our favourite part is the barbeque and dining area, which sits under a pergola decorated with foliage. The lawn is fringed by borders filled with flowers and shrubs, and at the end of the lawn you’ll find a hot tub and a gate leading out onto Dunster Deer Park and Castle Grounds. Can you guess how much it is? High House is actually on the market with Knight Frank for £1,650,000. You can also book a holiday visit.
