Looks like Rainbow Six Siege gets a Rainbow Six Extraction event in August Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:40 PM PDT The Rainbow Six Extraction release date has been pushed back to early next year, but it looks like we won't have to wait that long to get a taste of the alien invasion. Ubisoft is teasing a new Rainbow Six Siege event for August that looks to be connected to the upcoming game - and a load of leaks have already provided details on what form that event will take. The official Rainbow Six Siege Twitter account has posted a "routine safety announcement" from the Abidjan Metro System, warning that the "consulate station and surrounding areas are currently closed to commuters due to a gas leak". A new header image for the account includes an Extraction-style growth and a date of August 3. No prizes for guessing that Consulate is getting an Extraction-themed takeover based on all that, and exactly such an event has already leaked - as most big Siege updates tend to do. Footage of a special mode set in Consulate with all of Extraction's alien goop recently surfaced courtesy of Zer0Bytes, alongside an indication that the event would last through August 24. Apex Legends devs detail Seer’s abilities in full Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:59 AM PDT July 29, 2021 Apex Legends' Seer abilities have been fully detailed. The Apex Legends Season 10 release date is nearly here, and the devs have fully detailed what to expect from Seer's abilities in the new season. Seer's kit is all about tracking enemies in real time, and his loadout is looking mighty powerful. Seer's Passive, Heart Seeker allows him to track enemies within 75 meters while aiming down sights, by visualising the direction of their heartbeats. His Tactical, Focus of Attention summons a blast of microdrones that will reveal enemies for a few seconds, including their health and armour bars. The initial blast also interrupts enemies, including healing efforts. Finally, Seer's Ultimate, Exhibit creates a sphere of drones that'll reveal any enemies moving inside. You can avoid being spotted by this ability by moving slowly and not firing your weapon. As previously announced, this season introduces a ranked Arenas mode, which should help alleviate some of the mode's problems with quitters. We're also getting a map update for World's Edge, and a new weapon with the Rampage LMG. Fallout 76’s next update arrives August 3, here’s what’s in it Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:45 AM PDT The next big milestone on the Fallout 76 roadmap is Fallout Worlds, which will finally introduce custom servers to the post-apocalyptic MMORPG. However, before that we're going to see another update, which is due out August 3. Rather than adding lots of new and exciting content, this update is focused more on improving some quality of life issues and fixing bugs the community has flagged since the release of the Steel Reign update that arrived at the beginning of July. Bethesda says that as usual, you'll be able to review the patch notes for the upcoming update during the maintenance downtime. You can also check out a new radio drama the developers have put together - this one is a three-part series called K.D. Inkwell in Escape From the 42nd Century. It's available to listen to now on YouTube (here are links to part two and part three), but you'll also be able to eventually unlock them on the Season Scoreboard following a future update. Over the weekend, Fallout 76 will be holding a new Gold Rush Weekend. That, in fact, is underway now, and it'll run until 9 a.m. PDT / 12 p.m. EDT / 5 p.m. BST August 2. During the Gold Rush, you can head to Foundation and Crater to use the Gold Press Machines to exchange your treasury notes for up to twice the usual gold bullion amounts. This week, you can grab Mothergunship and Train Sim World 2, and as ever, Epic has revealed next week's freebies, too. The indie train we've been on for the past few weeks is expanding to cover a bigger-budget story-driven action game in A Plague Tale: Innocence, which will be available alongside Speed Brawl. Musician turns Final Fantasy, Halo, and Mass Effect tunes into Doom Eternal versions Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:03 AM PDT You've probably heard such iconic videogame tracks as Final Fantasy XIV's battle music medley, Halo's main theme, or Mass Effect 2's Suicide Mission track. But what if, like, someone redid it all but made it Doom Eternal instead? That's part of the offering you get on content creator GeoffPlaysGuitar's - and boy does he - channel. Alongside some stunning recreations of tracks like Final Fantasy X's To Zanarkand, Geoff has been reimagining iconic tracks in a Doom Eternal style over the past few months. Sometimes you get a bit of a sneak peek behind the creative process and research - like with Mass Effect and FFXIV's Doom mashups - but other times, you head right into it, like with the Halo video. So far, we've seen a few tracks from Final Fantasy, Halo, Mass Effect, Castlevania, Bloodborne, and Cyberpunk 2077 get the Doom Eternal treatment. The Chronicles collection brings them to PC for the first time, and if you're wondering what we've been missing, we'd be glad to catch you up. You may have heard of the main Ace Attorney series, a distinctive blend of anime visual novels, puzzle-adventure games, and detective games. In that series, you are star defence lawyer Phoenix Wright, and you'll help your clients by gathering evidence during investigations and then presenting it to the court in climactic trials. It embraces its inherent potential for high courtroom drama, with sharp, witty dialogue and irresistible anime art. The Great Ace Attorney is a prequel series set just after the turn of the 20th century and stars Phoenix Wright's ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. GabeN’s been testing the Steam Deck with Dota 2 Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:31 AM PDT Ah, the Steam Deck - Valve's answer to on-the-go gaming, which will let you run your favourite PC games on a handheld bit of kit. It's not coming until December this year, but we've been hearing plenty of details trickle in about its mod support and the games it'll run. Now, we also hear from Valve head Gabe Newell that he's been giving the device a really good go with one of the studio's flagship games, Dota 2. In an interview with IGN (below), GabeN was asked if there were "any Gabe-specific features" he'd requested make it into the Steam Deck that the team had to then implement. "Well, I do immediately play Dota with each new version that I get so I've probably been a little more laser-focussed on the 'usability testing'," he replies. When asked about the device's track pad and if that's a big thing for him, Newell nods and adds, "But that's just me being a gamer, right? That's not me being a president." So, it sounds like we can expect Dota 2 to play just fine on the Steam Deck when it arrives, given it sounds like GabeN's been putting it through its paces with the MOBA game. Ambitious Game of Thrones-style RPG Crimson Desert delayed indefinitely Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:59 AM PDT We were very impressed with the gameplay trailer for Pearl Abyss' upcoming RPG game Crimson Desert when it debuted at last year's Game Awards ceremony. The scale of the world, the brutal combat, and the remarkably detailed characters all suggested a world we'd very much like to visit for a few hundred hours. However, it appears we'll be waiting a while longer than expected: Pearl Abyss has announced that it's delaying Crimson Desert, and has not provided an updated release window. "Since Crimson Desert's gameplay trailer reveal last year, the response we received from the community has been a huge source of encouragement for our team," Pearl Abyss writes in a statement. "We are currently hard at work developing Crimson Desert, which is rapidly evolving with new adventures and exciting experiences. However, we have decided that we need to dedicate more time to adding new ideas for an even deeper, more enriching game." After the past 18 months of work-from-home conditions for most game studios, and given how much is going on in the Crimson Desert gameplay trailer, the delay isn't a huge surprise. Minecraft player recreates Stardew Valley’s town square in exquisite detail Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:51 AM PDT If there's something from a videogame or movie you can picture in your mind, someone is probably building it in Minecraft. Recently we reported on a Minecraft player that was recreating the entire Zelda: Breath of the Wild map, and there's an ongoing Doom project that looks pretty darn impressive. In what's most likely the most wholesome cross over we've seen, though, one enterprising builder has recreated Stardew Valley's town square. Redditor Rwww_ posted their build to Reddit, and it's all there. You've got Pierre's General Store and Harvey's Clinic nestled in together and the open square that branches off to the homes of some of Stardew Valley's lovely locals. So far, we only have the town square, though Rwww_ does say that they're open to recreating the whole map. It's pretty neat to see the two games cross over as Stardew Valley's creator used to roleplay Harvest Moon in Minecraft. Last year, someone posted on Reddit that they found a server with Eric Barone's Concerned Ape username on it. We reached out to Barone to see if it was him, and indeed it was. Gigabyte leaks its AMD RX 6600 XT GPU lineup, ahead of official announcement Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:47 AM PDT Current rumours suggest AMD will announce its new RTX 3060 Ti-rivalling graphics cards at the Chinajoy event on July 30 before a release in August, but it looks like Gigabyte's jumped the gun. Even though AMD hasn't officially acknowledged the card's existence yet, its Spanish division briefly tweeted a photo of two of its RX 6600 XT variants, telling its followers to "get ready for incredible 1080p gaming performance", before it was taken down. Both models in the photo adopt a three-fan design, with one displaying an 'Eagle' nametag and looking near-identical to the current Gigabyte RX 6700 XT Eagle GPU. It remains to be seen how many fans the reference model will carry, as an earlier render from Videocardz suggested a single fan design. That'd be perfect for a mini gaming PC build, but the thermals of triple-fanned models could lend themselves much better to GPU overclocking. We'll have to wait until AMD's announcement to see whether it corroborates Gigabyte's claims of 1080p performance. If the rumoured MSRP of $349 is anything to go by, you'd expect the card to smash 1440p gaming too, just like the $399 RTX 3060 Ti can. PUBG studio is reportedly making a fantasy game that sounds like a Korean Witcher-like Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:58 AM PDT Update - July 29, 2021: Krafton has offered comment on its 'Project Windless' Krafton has told us that, "while [it] obviously admire[s] the multimedia success of The Witcher, it was actually select members of the media" who made the comparison between the studio's novel-inspired multimedia franchise to The Witcher. The studio also says that "The Bird That Drinks Tears is an amazing IP that features in-depth lore and an incredible new world," and that it "see[s] immense value and untapped potential in the IP, and there is ample opportunity to expand that IP through a variety of mediums - not just games". However, it still sounds like the multimedia project could still have appeal in a similar vein to The Witcher series based on what's been revealed so far. Original story follows. Earlier this year, PUBG developer and publisher Krafton announced it was going to be expanding a Korean fantasy novel called The Bird That Drinks Tears into a "multimedia franchise", bringing renowned Hollywood concept artist Iain McCaig on board to help bring it to life. Beyond this, nothing was known about what the studio was cooking up other than its codename 'Project Windless', but now it looks like Krafton's got a fantasy game in the works that's reportedly like a "Korean Witcher". Prime Gaming gets retro game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis in August Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:07 AM PDT Another month, another round of games headed to Amazon's Prime Gaming subscription. August's goodies have now been unveiled and, among a bunch of other indie games, there's one very special - and super retro - addition from LucasArts' back catalogue: Indiana Jones an the Fate of Atlantis. Launched way, way back in 1992, the classic game is a point-and-click affair about the famous tomb-raiding, museum-stocking hero. As per usual, Indy's enemies are the Nazis, who are looking to get their grubby mitts on a weapon more dangerous than the atom bomb, which was responsible for the destruction of the mythological city of Atlantis - or so the game's story goes. There are more than 200 locations featured in the game, as its Steam page explains, and there are fistfights to win, balloon rides and car chases to survive, and lots of smart-ass one-liners. Elsewhere in Prime Gaming's August haul is first-person adventure game Metamorphosis, which lets you tackle a surrealist world as a weeny bug called Gregor, and Planet Alpha - a 2018 action-adventure game set in an alien world where you'll need to "harness the power of night and day as you struggle to survive". Fortnite: Visit Coral Cove, Base Camp Golf, and Unremarkable Shack Posted: 29 Jul 2021 06:35 AM PDT For this week's Fortnite epic challenges, you need to visit Coral Cove, Base Camp Golf, and Unremarkable Shack. This is part of Season 7's alien-theme, with ongoing challenges such as finding the alien artifacts in Fortnite to unlock Kymera skins. Fortunately, you don't have to hit all of these locations in a single game, especially as the locations are quite spread out. Coral Cove can be found on the small island to the west of Coral Castle. Base Camp Golf can be found southeast of Catty Corner, on the snowy mountain. Unremarkable Shack can be found on the small island northwest of Craggy Cliffs. Here's a map to show you the exact location of each landmark, it's worth noting that these locations aren't named locations on the Fortnite in-game map, so you need to know where to head before diving in. These areas aren't likely to be highly contested after the initial rush of people wishing to complete this challenge, but you can't be too careful, so be sure to go in brandishing the best alien weapons in Fortnite - including the new plasma cannon. You'll know you're in the right place as there are also some cardboard cut-outs of Jonesy frolicking at the beach and by the poolside. This week also has a whole bunch of legendary challenges, in which players are asked to collect an access card from an IO guard, plant wiretaps, interact with an IO operative's computer, and mindwipe certain characters before finally going on the hunt for an infiltrator among one of the 19 Fortnite NPCs. Here’s Halo Infinite’s multiplayer in action Posted: 29 Jul 2021 04:51 AM PDT We've got our first peep at what Halo Infinite's multiplayer action will look like in full flow. Developer 343 Industries hosted a livestream to show off what's coming in this weekend's technical preview, treating us to a practice match of Slayer that was played between devs on a new map called Live Fire. If you're a fan of the older Halo games, plenty will look familiar. You can still sling sticky grenades at unsuspecting foes, and a familiar, gravelly sounding commentator announces any double kill you get. Oh, and active camo is very much still here, so I expect I'll be tootling around with a shotgun at some point. Plenty, though, will seem new. Teams are no longer coloured in red or blue, instead having an aura around them to let you know what side they're on. You've also got heaps of returning mechanics from other 343 Halo games like sliding, sprinting, mantling, and zooming on standard guns. Things like spartan charge, ground pound, and lateral boost seem to be gone, though, which may tune down the movement a tad. While the new Crusader Kings III DLC pack will allow you to form new hybrid cultures, or split off from your starting culture, the update is overhauling how the mechanics work in a general sense. This will bring the feature more in-line with other mechanics, such as religion, for consistency, but also to allow the developers to unite a bunch of disparate culture-related content under a single banner. As part of this, cultures will now be reformed to include five key pillars, two of which are ethos and cultural traditions. As of the most recent diary, all seven of the cultural ethos options have now been revealed, and we've also had teasers for 17 cultural traditions. Fallout: London modders tease Covent Garden for the huge Fallout 4 mod Posted: 29 Jul 2021 04:50 AM PDT Last month, we got a good look at an enormous and ambitious mod coming up for Fallout 4. Called Fallout: London, it's a project that promises a "DLC-sized" addition to Bethesda's RPG game with a post-apocalyptic take on the UK's capital. There's been little word since, but today the modders have posted a tease about a new location that'll feature in the mod. In the original Fallout: London reveal trailer (below), we got a good peep at various recognisable, real-life locations given the Fallout treatment. There were shots of Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, and a handful of other famous spots, too - but now it's been confirmed that the iconic piazza Covent Garden will appear in the mod. We haven't got a massively clear look at the location, but the modders have posted a wee teaser snapshot on Instagram, which you can check out below. We can see one of the entryways to the indoor shopping and entertainment hub set against a hazy sky, and covered in graffiti. From the teaser, it's easy to see it's Covent Garden (you can check out this picture for reference if you're unfamiliar), but it is only a hint about what's to come. The bearers of so many of the fantasy game's now-iconic stock phrases, and the butt of so many memes as a result. They'll usually give dragon bashing a good go if one swoops near, but they're not exactly typical Dovahkiin material - or perhaps they are. One Skyrim fan has certainly been keen to find out, setting out on a journey in-game to see if the humble Whiterun guard can be a hero, too. It seems the (potentially) fateful journey started a few days ago when aptly named Redditor WhiterunGuards posted an image of their aspiring guard - clearly from Skyrim's Whiterun hold, as denoted by the mustard yellow garb and his shield's horse head insignia - declaring their intent. "No more lollygaggin' - time to find out if I really am Dragonborn," the guard announces, with a meme thrown in for fun, of course. Since then, our hero has been travelling to High Hrothgar, home of the Greybeards, to answer the call of the Voice - to find out if they're the chosen one, the Dragonborn poised to save Skyrim. He's even got a wee little backpack on. Awh. There have been clips of the guard's trek up the mountain, where he battles frost trolls, and update posts giving us a sense of his journey. GTA Online’s weekly update adds another Los Santos Tuners car Posted: 29 Jul 2021 03:27 AM PDT It's Thursday in Los Santos, gang, which means it's time for GTA Online's weekly update. The weekly refresh of content has been a tad up in the air recently as updates become sporadic up until Los Santos Tuners released on a Tuesday. It's okay, though, as we're back to our usual weekly reset day. Rockstar Games typically posts the update notes in full on its blog later in the day, but the update is already here, so people are dipping in to see what's new. As part of the Los Santos Tuners update, we're getting a slow rollout of new cars. This week, you're getting the Comet S2, which will set you back $1,878,000 - $1,408,500 in fictional GTA Online bucks. This week's GTA prize ride is the Warrener HKR, which you can fetch by winning five Sprint races. If you fancy a wee bit of try before you buy, the test track vehicles this week are the Jester RR, Comet S2, and Dominator ASP. If you're looking to make some more money and step outside your trusty vehicle, you can get double the usual rewards on the Vespucci Job adversary mode. This little bundle of joy is a ticking time bomb, throwing explosives with the careless abandon you'd expect from an unhinged toddler. Yes, we're pretty sure she is blissfully unaware of the pain and suffering she is causing with her wanton destruction, and should probably have a word with her guardians. Klee does one thing very well, so naturally there's only really one build that will work with her skill set.
