The House of Gucci Trailer Is as Star-Studded as Can Be Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:46 AM PDT Tales about the world of high fashion can go in some drastically different directions. For every The Devil Wears Prada, there are a dozen seasons of shows like America’s Next Top Model that claim to show the real thing. There is so much drama, intensity, and history in haute couture, and the House of Gucci trailer shows us how it is done. The House of Gucci Trailer Has Us Hyped For Another Biological Crime DramaBased on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 novel The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, this Ridley Scott-directed film tells the true story about what can go on behind the scenes of a famous fashion house. Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of Gucci’s former head, Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver, who is clearly mingling with Gucci and Burberry.) The events of the film took place in 1995. So, if you’re keen to avoid spoilers of the film, don’t dig too deep. Oh, and don’t keep reading, because we’re going to tell you a little bit about what went down. The real-life events are a little less glamorous than what the trailer suggests. Patrizia Reggiani was on trial for hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio, due to her desire for more money and ongoing building resentment toward him. The film will follow the murder itself, as well as the aftermath. Other stars of the film include Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino. It is filled with an A-list cast and clearly eyeing some awards as fancy as Gaga’s Gucci clothes. Readers, let us know your expectations of the film after watching the House of Gucci trailer. We love the cast, and especially the shocking transformations made by some of the actors. But will it translate to something spectacular on screen? We’ll find out when the film releases on November 24th, 2021. Featured image via Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The House of Gucci Trailer Is as Star-Studded as Can Be |
Why the Online Campaign to Fire Amber Heard From Aquaman 2 Didn’t Work Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:46 AM PDT Fans can make or break a franchise. Sure, there are the ones who will love anything and everything that comes out because the content is content. Others are comfortable scrutinizing every detail, claiming that they know what is best. And some believe that real-world consequences should impact the development of a film. A recent online campaign took over the internet in an attempt to fire actress Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 after fans believed that her abuse allegations should shun her from the spotlight, but the campaign didn’t work. We finally have some good behind-the-scenes insight into why. Why Amber Heard Didn’t Get Fired From Aquaman 2 After Online CampaignDomestic abuse scandals in Hollywood are always messy. It’s often hard to tell who is giving the right information versus who has the better lawyer. The ongoing legal battle regarding Amber Heard against Johnny Depp has been happening since 2017, following their divorce. The Sun referred to Johnny Depp as a “wife-beater” after various accusations regarding his character, which quickly turned into campaigns against his inclusion in films and boycotts against ones that were released. He was even fired from the Fantastic Beasts franchise despite an outpouring of support and character references claiming that he was anything but an abuser. While Johnny Depp was under fire for the accusations, which are unfortunately all-too-common in tabloids, Amber Heard’s reputation was also stirring up some thoughts. Eventually, news unleashed that the Aquaman actress may have been the one to instigate incidents of abuse. This begged fans to ask: If Johnny Depp could be replaced by Mads Mikkelsen in a major franchise, why couldn’t Amber Heard be given similar treatment? The Online Campaign To Get Amber Heard OutIt’s a common feeling to fear losing your job. Whether it’s imposter syndrome or knowing that you messed up, we’ve all been there. But imagine an online campaign with nearly 2 million signatures begging for your dismissal. And even more damaging, it’s for some good reasons. Film producers and studios don’t always follow fans’ wishes, but it’s not unheard of. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut was a huge shift in showing that fans have some power in what happens to a film. But was a petition enough to recast such a huge role in a sequel to a successful film? No, apparently not. We’ve all made our assumptions about why it didn’t happen. Now we finally have an answer. Peter Safran recently spoke about the online campaigns and desired removal of Heard from the film. Safran, an Aquaman producer, claimed that they would never react to “pure fan pressure.” Additionally, he added that if the rest of the team was staying, it felt right for Amber Heard to stay and that it was what’s “best for the movie.” Is What Is Right For The Film Always What Is Right? The allegations of abuse against Amber Heard claimed that she had been physical with Depp. This included punching, shattering his finger with a glass bottle, and more. The evidence is damaging, yet the other party involved is the only one to lose a job so far. While the press could still damage her career, she will still walk away with a hefty paycheck. Meanwhile, Depp has had his name tarnished, and the only thing he is working on is Puffins, which looks pretty cute, by the way. We understand that recasting a role, especially when it’s a sequel, is tough. It would draw more attention to the allegations and leave viewers with warped expectations of the role. Amber Heard may not have been fired after the online campaign for Aquaman 2. Still, the wording of these petitions as “fan pressure” takes the conversation away from the serious allegations and makes it sound like it’s just about fan service. Taking away the power from an alleged abuser isn’t fan service: it’s about respecting the victims. While rumors may have suggested that we would see Emilia Clarke in the role of Mera in Aquaman 2, it seems as if Heard is here to stay. You can catch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in theaters on December 16th, 2022. Readers, we know that this is a serious conversation about a highly anticipated film. So, we want to hear your thoughts on the online campaign to get Amber Heard out of Aquaman 2 and what you think of the producer’s response. Featured image via Warner Bros. Pictures. Dexter Revival’s Teaser Trailer Brings Back TV’s Original Anti-Hero Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:57 PM PDT Before Breaking Bad or Hannibal, where bad guys were the leads of TV shows and ended up being sympathetic characters, there was Dexter. It was the show where an actual serial killer was the hero, and what's even more messed up: we rooted for him. No moral ambiguities, no grey areas, just straight up, pre-planned muder. Serial murders. It was a weird time, but ccreating a hero like that that the audiences rooted for was a testament to just how good Dexter really was. So it's exciting as hell to see the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer, that brings back all of those nostalgic memories of that awesome show. Dexter Morgan Was TV's Original Sympathetic Villain. Kinda.Dexter was an original Showtime series that was super weird. Not for what the show did, but rather how it made you feel. The series followed the life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) who was a forensic blood splatter analyst. The blood guy of the police department. He was an analyst and had just as much of a rigid and structured life. Oh, and he was a completely emotionally disturbed serial killer. But like, a good one, with a moral code. Using his contacts at the police station, Dexter only killed those that the system allowed to go free. He had a strict code, only people who really deserved it would face his wrath. Obviously, the show dealt with the threat of this secret of Dexter's becoming exposed to the people in his life. While there were many other themes at work, the constant was Dexter struggling to reconcile his deplorable thoughts and urges, with wanting a normal life. The show delved into the psyche of serial killers long before Netflix's Mindhunter attempted to do the same. But the unique perspective was that it was coming from a serial killer himself. The show was so good it made you root for this hero, who was obviously damaged and messed up. But the writers still made you care for, and want the best for this person, through 8 amazing seasons. And now, the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer promises to go much much deeper. Dexter Season 9 Teaser Trailer Is Delightfully DeviousThe original run of Dexter ended in 2013 after 8 seasons. So seeing the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer was incredibly nostalgic and brought back all the vibes of that show. Spoilers of the Dexter season 8 finale to follow. Proceed at your own risk. The last season of Dexter ended with the character faking his own death and then revealing in the end that he was alive and well, isolated somewhere far from his previous life. In the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer, it looks like things pick up from exactly where they left off. Dexter has rebuilt a normal life for himself in a small town, using an alias. But when his old life threatens to encroach on the peace that he's built, things could get bloody. It seems like a pretty straightforward idea for a revival. The peace that Dexter was looking for all through the previous show is finally there but might come undone with the events of the new story It’s a similar formula that every season of the original show adhered to, in some way. But it's not really the what about the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer that interests me, it's the who. And the who is kind of awesomest part about this teaser. Michael C. Hall's Return To Dexter Is Incredible!Along with the return of Dexter the character, it's the return of actor Michael C. Hall that is another comeback story for the show. The actor was battling cancer during the making of the show. Hall didn't even reveal the diagnosis to the public, until well after his treatment began. Since then, however, Hall has recovered and is now returning to the show in a big way. Seeing Hall in the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer is kind of heartwarming in a meta way. One of the reasons why the Dexter character was so likeable, was that despite Hall's intimidating physical stature and presence, Dexter himself was totally unassuming, disarming and kind of a dork. Making what he did in the dark of the night, that much scarier. But seeing Hall slip into the skin of Dexter with such ease, and reminding us instantly of what this character was, is kind of astonishing. With a look, a smirk, or a pursing of his lips, Hall brings back this character that was so influential to the landscape of TV today. I honestly cannot wait for the return of Dexter. Dexter season 9 returns on Showtime on November 7.What did you think of the Dexter season 9 teaser trailer? Let me know if you're excited about the return of this awesome show, in the comments below. Doctor Who Star Jodie Whittaker and Showrunner Chris Chibnall Will Depart The TARDIS In 2022 Posted: 31 Jul 2021 01:00 PM PDT Fresh off the teaser trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who, we have news that this will be the last season for star Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall. According to Chibnall, this may have been the plan all along. Chibnall and Whittaker will depart Doctor Who next year, after a trio of special episodes. Their three seasons together on air have drastically altered the landscape of the long-running sci-fi series for the BBC. According to Chibnall: "Jodie and I made a ‘three series and out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast. So now our shift is done, and we're handing back the TARDIS keys.” Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker Turn In The Keys To The TARDISChris Chibnall took over as showrunner for Doctor Who in 2017, after the departure of long-time showrunner Steven Moffat. He made the groundbreaking decision to cast Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor. She was the first woman to assume the mantle of the Doctor in the history of the series. Throughout her run as the Doctor, Whittaker has brought humor, sensitivity, warmth, and savvy to the role. The Doctor grew in emotional depths as she learned a great deal about her own identity, origins, and how to be part of a family. She was a great Doctor, and we’ll be sorry to see her go
Jodie Whittaker Will Carry The Doctor With Her “Forever”Whittaker also added a statement about what she learned from her time as the Doctor. The actress has been extremely vocal about her love of the role over the years. She definitely did not have the easiest time as the Doctor, with “fans” critiquing her every move. But it is clear that she was always excited to be part of the show, and her incarnation opened up a new world for Doctor.
Chibnall Added Much To Doctor Who Lore During His TenureChibnall also made several notable changes to Doctor Who lore as his time heading the series. Not only did he bring in the first female Doctor, but he also introduced another variant of the Doctor with the mysterious character of Ruth, a forgotten incarnation of the Time Lord. That character still has yet to be fully explained or explored, and we hope that this mystery can be resolved before the end of Chibnall’s run. The showrunner also introduced some new mythology for the Time Lords with the introduction of the ‘Timeless Child’ that culminated in last season’s dramatic finale. Of course we cannot forget the memorable new incarnation of The Master that appeared during Chibnall’s run, as portrayed by Sacha Dhawan. We can only hope that Dhawan will stick around for future Doctor Who seasons after Chibnall and Whittaker depart the show.
The Next Season of Doctor Who Will Feel A Bit DifferentThe upcoming season of Doctor Who will be truncated due to pandemic restrictions. The six-episode series is tentatively scheduled to air in the Fall, probably leading up to a New Year’s Day special. We also know that Chibnall is trying something different for his final full season. Instead of standalone episodes, the upcoming season of Doctor Who will be one long story with episodic chapters. We have a new companion joining the TARDIS in John Bishop’s character of Dan. Of course we will also see the return of Yaz (Mandip Gill) who is the last of Whittaker’s original companion fam. And all three will be joined by a new character next season, with GOT alum Jacob Anderson playing a character named Vinder. Next season’s story will likely transition into the final episodes of the Whittaker and Chibnall run before they depart Doctor Who. According to the BBC, there are two Doctor Who specials planned for 2022. And it will all culminate in one final feature-length episode where the Doctor will regenerate once more. This final episode will be part of the BBC’s After the first female Doctor, we can only speculate on what direction the show will take next, and who the next incarnation of the Doctor will be. A new showrunner must of course be hired first. And you know we’ll be keeping an eye on who will enter the TARDIS next.
