| Halo TV Show Will Now Air on Paramount Plus Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:06 AM PDT What a long, strange trip the Halo TV show took to get to this point. After years of speculation, we learned it was actually happening in the past couple of years. Now, the network that served as its home isn’t even getting to air the show. Even more interestingly, Showtime isn’t all that sad to lose the series to another platform. There’s a lot to break down here, but the fact of the matter is we’re still getting the show. Nobody can take that away from us. Still, it’s easy to be cautiously optimistic about what the final product of the series might be. Either way, the Halo TV show won’t air on Showtime, but rather Paramount Plus in a weird turn of events. Here’s how we got here. Halo TV Show Says Goodbye to Showtime, Hello to Paramount Plus![]() Image Credit: Xbox Game Studios It never felt like the Halo series fit into the Showtime ecosystem. The premium network doesn’t necessarily do much with the space and sci-fi genres. Fantasy, sure. Video game adaptation of a military shooter with aliens and ancient races? Ehh, probably not so much. The show will instead end up on Paramount Plus, a network with no real identity whatsoever. Per Gamespot, Showtime is losing the series to Paramount Plus with The Man Who Fell to Earth moving vice versa. Showtime and Paramount Plus can make this sort of move because they’re both ViacomCBS networks. Of course, CBS All Access rebranded as Paramount Plus this March but doesn’t have a bonafide hit yet. This level of production, which is still handled by Showtime, might be the hit it needs. Of all the video game TV adaptations we want to see, Halo definitely ranks up there. It’s ideally going to be a detailed, deeper dive into the already great story of the Halo universe. A Showtime Halo TV Series event earlier this year showed us a glimpse of Master Chief, the main military hero in the franchise. We’ll likely get a look at the events of the first game but in a new light. From what Showtime execs say about the project, it’s not just going to be all action either. What Showtime Execs Say About the Decision![]() Image Credit: Xbox Game Studios Gary Levine, Showtime Networks’ Co-President of Entertainment, said in 2018 that the series “will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.” Does a move to Paramount Plus change that approach? Not at all. Showtime spent seven years developing the series and still runs things creatively. Other Co-President of Entertainment Jana Winograde explained recently that “the truth is that it was always a bit of an outlier for us in terms of its fit in the Showtime universe.” If the show does well, then fans will be happy. Paramount Plus will be happy too, but a second season will require new showrunners. Both Stephen Kane and Kyle Killen, who co-ran the first season’s production, left following final shoots. With the recent announcement of the Halo Infinite release date, it’d be exciting to learn about the premiere of the series. Like most things with the Halo TV show, however, Paramount Plus and ViacomCBS will likely take their time with the announcement. If you’re excited about the series, then let us know in the comments! | Robert Rodriguez Describes New Ben Affleck Movie Hypnotic As A Hyper Hitchcock Film Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:00 AM PDT Robert Rodriguez is one of my favourite filmmakers. The man brought us Desperado and the staple of hyper-stylized action movies well before Zack Snyder. So you can understand my affinity for him. Rodriguez went from an indie film director to big studio projects like Sin City and Alita: Battle Angel. And now the storyteller is staying busy with a long-time passion project. The Robert Rodriguez Hypnotic movie stars Ben Affleck, and is a 'Hitchcock Thriller on steroids'. Find out more about the Robert Rodriguez Hypnotic movie below. The Rise And Plateau of Robert Rodriguez![]() Image via Columbia Pictures. Robert Rodriguez was famous for being the indie film director who subjected himself to medical experiments to fund the production of his first movie. Its success resulted in two sequels, the first of which put Salma Hayek on the map in Desperado. Rodriguez also collaborated with fellow auteur Quentin Tarantino as part of the Grindhouse double bill, contributing his Planet Terror to Tarantino's Death Proof. He was also involved with the completely innovative filmmaking style of shooting entirely on green screen by bringing Frank Miller's Sin City to life. A technique that is very much the norm now in big blockbusters like the Avengers movies. For a time, Rodriguez went into a tangent from his own ruthless and brutal filmmaking style to a more family-friendly affair, with the Spy Kids franchise and his recent We Can Be Heroes. Most recently, Rodriguez last big blockbuster was Alita: Battle Angel, which didn’t live up to commercial box office expectations, but critics loved it. And continuing to innovate technical filmmaking, Rodriguez is also part of the new brain trust at Lucasfilms who conceptualized The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian uses The Volume, a structure that allows for unlimited backdrops on a large soudnstage. It’s an an evolution of green screen filmmaking, something Rodriguez is very familiar with. The filmmaker is also showrunning The Mandalorian spin-off, The Book Of Boba Fett. And now, along with it, we learn of the new Robert Rodriguez Hypnotic movie, exclusively from Collider. Robert Rodriguez Hypnotic Movie Is A New Thriller![]() Image via 20th Century Studios. In the exclusive interview, Rodriguez discusses his new Hypnotic movie, which goes into production soon.
It's interesting and kind of bold for Rodriguez to claim that the trailer will sell everyone on his new movie. I mean, that's exactly what a trailer is meant to do, but it should be interesting to see what this new movie is about. A Hitchcock-stye thriller sounds very interesting. Rodriguez is known for his zany action sequences, but also his over-the-top stylized drama. A thriller sounds like more of a quiet affair than that we are used to from him. Ben Affleck Teams With Robert Rodriguez For Hypnotic![]() Image via Troublemaker Studios. The new Robert Rodriguez Hypnotic movie actually stars Ben Affleck and Alice Braga. The Ben Affleck comeback train continues with this project, and I am personally very excited. I'm curious to see what an actor of Afleck's calibre does under Rodriguez's direction. Hypotonic begins production in six weeks; no word on its release yet.Are you game for an Affleck-Rodriguez team up in Hypnotic? Let us know in the comments below. | Watch Dogs Legion Of The Dead Brings The Game Back To Life Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:57 AM PDT DLC isn’t just about squeezing more money out of players. I mean, sure, sometimes it feels that way. Other times, it feels like dev teams explore a new, expansive part of a game world. If done correctly, then DLC experiences should be the strongest elements of a game’s offerings. In the case of Watch Dogs Legion, that certainly looks to be the case with their new DLC experience. In Watch Dogs Legion of the Dead, players get to take on hordes of zombies in the expansive, tech-obsessed world of the Ubisoft series. From the launch trailer, it looks to be likely the best chance the game has at bringing its player base back to life. Here’s what we know about the newest content coming to Watch Dogs Legion. Fight Your Way Through London in Watch Dogs Legion of the DeadOverall, the promise of Watch Dogs Legion and its defining mechanic automatically set my alarm bells off. When Ubisoft released its Watch Dogs Legion trailer, the third game in the series promised something huge. If you play the game, then you can recruit any NPC you find into your squad of tech hackers. This meant that anyone, literally anybody spotted in the game, was available to players as an option. Unfortunately, this mechanic led to many NPCs feeling too similar in their abilities and specialties. It’s a bit silly to complain that thousands of NPCs didn’t feel unique enough in the game, but it’s what many though, myself included. Now, we get a new DLC pack called Legion of the Dead. Much like the famous Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare DLC, this new experience has a simple premise. What if zombies entered the world of Watch Dogs? Simple, yet effective; an approach that would serve Ubisoft well if they continue to build on the Watch Dogs series. In Legion of the Dead, players can team up with up to four friends and fight through a zombie-infested London. With new items, abilities, and gadgets to use, the hordes don’t stand a chance against the power of cybercrime. Eh, maybe they do; that all depends on how you and your squad approach survival. Despite a strong start in terms of sales, Watch Dogs Legion didn’t have much staying power. Then again, most Ubisoft games make a big impression and fade into deep sales within months. It’s not a knock on Ubisoft, it’s a business model that is clearly working for them. As they move into more live games as a service projects like Assassin's Creed Infinity, the company will continue to shift its approach to gaming. Overall, there’s a good chance that Watch Dogs Legion of the Dead reignites some attention for the game. There’s a lot to love about the franchise. So far, I’ve enjoyed my time with every game in the series. That said, it’s feeling more and more like the depth of Watch Dogs as a traditional gaming experience is all on the table. Introducing zombies is a great way to break the game out of its shell. If you’re excited about the new game mode, then let us know in the comments. | Who Is Kingo? A Look At Marvel Comics’ Eternals Characters Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:04 PM PDT When the Eternals movie was first announced at SDCC 2019 for the MCU’s Phase 4, people had questions. Who the heck were these Eternals? How will they fit into the MCU? Well, now we know (kind of). Marvel Studios released the final Eternals trailer and fans got a clearer picture of what these beautiful superheroes will be doing in the MCU. We wrote about the history of the Eternals, but basically, they’re the creation of divine beings, the Celestials (Ego, Peter Quill’s father, was one of these beings). The Celestials created early humanoids as a way to kickstart human evolution, thus creating the Eternals (the gorgeous, good-hearted ones) and the Deviants (the ugly, evil ones). The former was tasked with protecting Earth (and later, humankind) from the wicked plans of the Deviants. While we’ve gotten a glimpse of these new characters, I’m going to take a closer look at each of the 10 new superheroes. In this first post of the series, I’m asking: who is Kingo? Who Is Kingo And What Are His Powers?Kingo, who is played by Kumail Nanjiani, loves the spotlight and often finds ways to put himself front and center. Like the other Eternals, he can manipulate energy with his hands and he’s endowed with super strength and durability. He is an excellent fighter and has great sword mastery with the katana and the wakizashi. In the comics he wore body armor that was fashioned to look like a samurai’s and he preferred the more traditional fight style of the Japanese warrior rather than using his supernatural Eternal powers. A History of Kingo![]() Image via Marvel The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby and he based them off of a mix of science fiction and classic mythology. In the comics, Kingo was actually Japanese (he hailed from a settlement that overlooked the Japanese prefecture, Hokkaido) and later became Japan’s most famous movie star, using the name Kingo Sunen. He used his samurai skills both on the set and to defend humanity, but eventually leaves his life of fame and fortune behind to help the other Eternals fight the Deviants. In the upcoming Eternals movie, Kingo is a Bollywood movie star who, while incredibly famous, is also very conscientious of keeping his status as an Eternal under wraps. Eternals premieres November 5, 2021 in theaters everywhere. Are you excited to learn more about Kingo? Let us know in the comments below! Featured image via Marvel Studios Who Is Kingo? | Manifest Renewed for Season 4 on Netflix Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:16 PM PDT Get my Bloomies Amex, darling, because we are buying sweaters tonight. The important visualization that we all did–draping ourselves in cashmere, chanting “Manifest Season 4 on Netflix“–has worked. Much like our faith in quality knitwear, Netflix renewed Manifest for another season. Manifest Renewed, Will Be Show’s Final Season![]() image via Warner Bros TV That’s right–all that negotiating paid off. Netflix, which has seen Manifest only sustain its popularity since it hit the top 10, gave the show a fourth season. However, at this time, they are planning on that being the final season of the show. That’s a bit of a blow, obviously, to creator Jeff Rake, who had planned out a six-season storyline. (So many callings.) Though, it’s possible this can change. Lucifer was saved by the streamer for a single season, only to have that season expanded and an additional season added. Still, another season is better than nothing, right? Plus, Rake will get the opportunity to end the show properly, instead of the somewhat ambiguous ending of season three. I mean, I assume–I still haven’t finished it (no spoilers, please!). Anyway, there will be twenty episodes in season four, which will be their largest season yet. In addition, Netflix will probably divide the season into parts, like they did with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the aforementioned Lucifer. Most of Cast Expected to Return for Fourth SeasonNetflix took the fun step of not only announcing the renewal on August 28, aka 8/28–the same as the show’s flight number–they also announced it at 8:28 AM (PST), as Deadline tells us. That was a shout-out to the show’s devoted fans, who mobilized in support of renewal. Deadline also reports that the negotiations resulted in most of the cast returning for this next season. That includes stars Josh Dallas and Sweater Goddess Melissa Roxburgh, as well as the supporting cast, including Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, and Matt Long. The article pointedly does not mention Athena Karkanis (Grace), though, so I am now a little concerned about her fate in season 3. (NO SPOILERS!!!) We don’t know yet when to expect season 4, but we’ll let you know. And in lieu of the official announcement from Netflix, which is just a bunch of characters saying “828,” here’s a word from an up-and-coming Maine-based scribe.
Seasons 1 & 2 of Manifest are on Netflix, while season 3 is currently streaming on Hulu in the US.Are you excited to see Manifest renewed for season 4? Tell us in these comments or on our social media. featured image via Warner Bros TV Manifest Renewed for Season 4 on Netflix |
