| Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad will reappear in October Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:45 PM PDT It's been some time since we've seen much of either big DC game, but as we suspected, the company has now confirmed that both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will reemerge as part of the DC Fandome event in October. The games originally debuted as part of the same event last year. DC Fandome is set to stream on Saturday, October 16 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST, according to the latest announcement. We don't yet know when the game-specific stream will occur during the schedule, but DC confirms that "Warner Bros. Games will feature new reveals from the highly anticipated Gotham Knights, developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developed by Rocksteady Studios." We've already had a pretty substantial in-game look at Gotham Knights, but so far, Suicide Squad has only appeared as a CG trailer - hopefully we can expect that to change this October. (If you were hoping for a surprise Injustice 3 announcement, though, you should dial back your expectations - it sounds like the fighting game veterans at NetherRealm are focused on Mortal Kombat 12.) |
| Ghostrunner has a new roguelike mode and difficulty options Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:04 PM PDT Dust off that high-tech sword, because there are new reasons to fire up the wall-running cyberpunk game Ghostrunner today. An update adds in two new game modes that will appeal both to seasoned veterans and newcomers alike. Plus, there's some new paid cosmetic DLC if you want to look a bit spiffier while darting around high above the neon-lit streets. Wave Mode is a new "roguelike-inspired" horde mode for Ghostrunner, which pits you against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Enemy types and formations are procedurally generated each time, and you'll have a random selection of hero upgrades to pick from between rounds. Ghostrunner is a pretty difficult game when you first get started - hard enough that many players might have been put off after their initial experience with it. The new Assist Mode gives you three toggleable options to make it a bit less punishing. You can make your ability cooldowns shorter, slow down the gameplay, and add an extra life as you see fit. | Phasmophobia just saw its best weekend on Steam since launch Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:20 PM PDT Phasmophobia is back in the Steam charts now that the August update is out. The ghost game added two new ghost types last week, and players seem eager to check them out. More than 62,000 concurrent players were investigating reports of the new Myling and Goryo spirits Sunday evening. Sunday's peak concurrent player count in Phasmophobia was 62,448, to be exact, making it the game's best day since its Early Access launch last September. But each day since the update arrived has seen an influx in players, and as of this writing, Phasmophobia is just beneath the threshold of Steam's top 15 most-played games of the moment with over 41,000 players logged in. We've actually gotten a set of patch notes to look at now, and update v.0.3.0 adds a lot more than a couple of poltergeists. All ghost-hunting gear has been improved, and there's the new piece of equipment, the DOTS projector. That means you've got a new evidence type, of course - but it also means that all the ghosts have had their evidence adjusted to account for the new detection method. | The Dead Space remake’s dismemberment expands with a flesh peeling system Posted: 31 Aug 2021 11:11 AM PDT Today, we got our first proper gameplay details on the Dead Space remake with a demonstration of an early build of the game, and it seems the dismemberment system is back with some major new features. Necromorphs can now be peeled in addition to getting chopped, as the devs at Motive work to make the reboot even more challenging than the original. The new Dead Space still has limb dismemberment, but the monstrous necromorphs now have multiple layers of defense for you to contend with. The creatures' flesh will peel away as you attack them with high-damage, low-precision weapons, to help indicate what your attacks are doing even when you're not slicing limbs off. You'll need to be more precise with your dismemberment shots, too. There are bones underneath those limbs that you'll have to properly blast in order to complete the slice. If you leave a tough bit of flesh behind, that limb will be left dangling on the monster, too. Enemies later in the game will also have bits of clothing and body armour which will add to your tactical considerations. |
| Deep Rock Galactic’s modding system has arrived Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:15 AM PDT Mod support has arrived in Deep Rock Galactic's experimental branch, meaning you can start tinkering away with alterations to the co-op game. As we reported earlier this year, developer Ghost Ship Games has thought long and hard about how to implement mods into a multiplayer game that features a progression system, and a three-tiered approval system hosted on mod.io seems to have been the best solution. In the latest update on Steam, Ghost Ship Games explains how it went about distinguishing different types of mods, and making sure that cheating wasn't part of the experience. The studio considers it cheating when mods increase XP or reward payouts from missions, bypass the normal process for unlocking in-game items, or boost progression speed. Mods that do any of that, or change the progression experience in any way, are placed in the 'Sandbox' category, and to use those you'll need a dedicated save file separate from the one you use for game progression. Not all mods make those kinds of changes, however, and so there are also 'approved' and 'verified' mod categories. RELATED LINKS: Deep Rock Galactic gameplay impressions |
| Father-son devs bring their open-world Stardew Valley-like to Kickstarter Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:10 AM PDT There's plenty of games like Stardew Valley on PC these days - and Harvest Moon, too, obviously - but one we've been keeping tabs on is Harvest Days. It offers the same fantasy of escaping the city to tend a neglected plot of land, but it stands out from the crop due to its embrace of more open-world elements. If that sounds like your thing, you can now back it on Kickstarter and influence how far the upcoming PC game's development goes. Depending on how many stretch goals the game breaks, Harvest Days could get an in-game museum, an assortment of new minigames, a photo mode, a new type of pet, and the possibility of full online multiplayer is there, too. A father-son duo is making this one, so you might need to give those features a moment before they're ready for the game. There's plenty of other goodies for backers, too. You can get a copy of the game on your platform of choice, in-game character skins, and a position in the game's credits. That's only naming a few of the rewards, too. | Another Age of Empires 4 beta is something devs are “interested in doing” Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:23 AM PDT Age of Empires IV's closed beta is over, but Relic and World's Edge are interested in running another one, provided "everything comes together." Creative director Adam Isgreen tells us during an interview at Gamescom that there is interest in running another beta, though it's still in discussion. "I don't have anything concrete to share," he says, "[but] it is something that we're interested in doing. When you make a beta build, it's always a frozen moment in time but it doesn't stop the progress of the game." Isgreen mentions that the version of the game that was provided for the beta - which started on August 5 and ended just before Gamescom - was nearly a month old by the time the testing period started. "There's been a lot of changes that have happened since," he explains, "balancing, new features, and all kinds of things." When we'll get another one though is a matter of timing, and choosing the right moment, Isgreen explains: "If everything comes together, and we can find another perfect freeze point - we're working on figuring out where we can make that happen." | Far Cry 6 is more RPG than ever Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:01 AM PDT Like seemingly every other series in Ubisoft's catalogue, Far Cry is slowly but surely becoming an RPG. Not in the traditional sense, in which you create a character and immerse yourself in them through gameplay decisions and specialisation, but in a similar way to Assassin's Creed Origins - that of a soft reboot that places gear and character level at the fore of customisation. This transformation has been gradual. It started back in Far Cry 3, which added the first skill tree, before evolving to incorporate AI companions in Far Cry Primal that would be refined and fleshed out in Far Cry 5 with the inclusion of human 'guns for hire'. Far Cry 6 draws most of its revisions from New Dawn, which may be concerning if - like me - you found its bullet sponge enemies, weapon rarities, and floaty damage numbers a little overbearing. Thankfully, that's not the case here. Ubisoft has clearly taken care to trim away some of the fat, and the result is a leaner first-person shooter with RPG systems that complement both the setting and the gameplay. | Windows 11 release date is October 5 and Windows 10 users get it for free Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:02 AM PDT Windows 11 is fast approaching, as Microsoft confirms the operating system will start to become available on October 5, 2021. Not only does this mean we'll see prebuilt gaming PCs and gaming laptops like the Alienware X series sporting the latest OS, but you might also be able to take the leap with your current Windows 10 device as qualifying systems will get the nudge to update. Much like the Windows 10 rollout, the Windows 11 release will be staggered with a vision to reach all devices by mid-2022. This phased approach prioritises newer systems that are certified compatible, taking into account the age of your device, what hardware its packing, and other factors, meaning you might need to be patient if you're keen to upgrade. There are a whole host of new features that make a compelling argument for Windows 11, such as native Android apps and a new Microsoft Store. You'll be just fine sticking with Windows 10 a little longer, however, as it'll get another four years of support, as well as features we previously thought would be exclusive to the new operating system, such as Auto HDR, DirectX 12 Ultimate, and the SSD-enhancing DirectStorage API. | Where to leave an IO car at an alien settlement in Fortnite Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:56 AM PDT Want to know where to leave an IO car at an alien settlement in Fortnite? The alien invasion in the battle royale game is finally coming to an end, and this is one of the last legendary quests left to finish off before the season concludes. The aliens on Fortnite island may be a nuisance, but their unique alien IO weapons more than make up for this inconvenience. These powerful weapons come in several forms, including the deadly Rail Gun and the precise Pulse Rifle. While you're finishing off the last legendary quests to unlock Fortnite skins in the battle pass, you should collect as many Fortnite alien artifacts while you still can. The alien artifacts can be used to unlock styles for your Kymera skin, allowing you to create over 800,000 different alien combinations. Don't forget to check out some of our other guides on the legendary quests this week, in which you're tasked to deploy pallets of cat food around the IO base and leave secret documents at the bus stop. | Where to deploy pallets with cat food near the IO base in Fortnite Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:41 AM PDT Want to know where to deploy pallets with cat food in Fortnite? It's finally time to put an end to the alien invasion once and for all. Your missions this week start with opening the mission kit and placing a jammer outside an IO base, before dropping some secret documents at certain bus stops on the Fortnite map. Then you will talk to either Joey, Sunny, or Dreamflower - one of the Fortnite NPCs, and leave an IO car at an alien settlement. After all of that, it's time to tempt the aliens with some tasty cat food. According to Joey, the aliens love cat food, so it seems that the plan is to lure the invaders to the IO base in Corny Complex. Hopefully, the mole doesn't cotton on to our scheme and warn the extraterrestrials away. There are three possible locations where you can leave the cat food pallets, but you only need to leave two behind to complete the challenge. We'll show you where to deploy the pallets with cat food in the IO base in Fortnite, in order to finish this week's legendary challenges. | Against the Storm is a roguelike city-builder full of intelligent beavers and lizards Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:41 AM PDT The cards are stacked against you in Against the Storm, a roguelike city-building game that's gearing up for an early access launch on the Epic Games Store. Not only do you need to quickly gather resources and protect your citizens from the ever-growing blightstorm, you've also got to figure out how to make beavers, lizards, and humans live together in something resembling harmony. Your job as viceroy is actually a bit self-serving: you've only come out to the blighted wilderness in order to set up production camps for resources needed back at the Scorched Queen's Smouldering City, the last remaining refuge from the dark magic storms that have brought destruction to everything they've touched. However, to do that, you'll have to enlist a civic army from whatever communities you can, and those include the aforementioned lizards, beavers, and humans. While the city-building component is strongly reminiscent of RTS games like Warcraft III, there's more going on here: you're almost constantly beset by impending disaster in the form of blight-fueled floods and forest fires. |
| Fortnite V-Bucks: what they are, how much do they cost, and can you get free V-Bucks? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:16 AM PDT Can I get free V-Bucks? If you've seen an offer promising Fortnite V-Bucks free of charge, take it with a pinch of salt. There are various ways to win free V-Bucks and there are loads of things on which to spend them, but make sure you know that there are plenty of unscrupulous folks ready to scam you. Don't panic, though: we're here to help you with all you need to know about acquiring and using Fortnite V-Bucks safely. But, first, what are Fortnite V-Bucks? You might have been playing Epic's battle royale game and spotted other players looking much snazzier than you do. Perhaps they're flexing by dancing before the game starts. That is because they have been spending V-Bucks, which can be used to purchase a range of cosmetics, adding some sartorial spice to your 100-player king of the hill scrap - while paying close attention to our top Fortnite tips, naturally. From Fortnite skins to outfits, emotes, and the Battle Pass – which you can use to unlock even more cosmetics – you have plenty of options when it comes to spending V-Bucks. But how do you get this premium currency? And, if you're time-poor, how do you buy them? Here's our Fortnite V-Bucks guide to help you find out what they are, how you unlock V-Bucks, and if there really is such a thing as free V-Bucks. | Total War Troy’s next free update arrives this week along with its Steam launch Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:56 AM PDT Ahead of the arrival of A Total War Saga: Troy's new expansion in a couple of days, Creative Assembly has released the patch notes for the accompanying free update that will drop at the same time - which also coincides with the strategy game's launch on Steam. The free historical mode and the new administration systems are dropping as 'free-LC', but patch 1.6.0 also brings with it a wide range of bug fixes and tweaks. Hector's campaign has now been given a new difficulty rating of easy, where Sarpedon's is considered normal. Horde factions will get targeted by the AI less, which will hopefully let them survive a bit longer in campaign games, and there's plenty of other changes to events, buildings, faction mechanics, and even the new photo mode. The new historical mode completely removes mythological units and supernatural abilities from the game, with some heroes getting a complete rework to how they function in tactical battles. Heroes also get bodyguard units now, instead of fighting as one-person armies, and even the colour palette in historical mode is more "subdued" and naturalistic. | The best Genshin Impact Yoimiya build Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:49 AM PDT Yoimiya joins the roster of new Genshin Impact characters as part of the current Genshin Impact banner alongside the four-star Sayu. If you're looking for the best Yoimiya build in Genshin Impact, then here's how to create the ideal build based on Yoimiya's abilities. The Genshin Impact Yoimiya banner, Tapestry of Golden Flames, has dropped. You now have a chance to play as the five-star firework shop owner, also known as the Queen of the Summer Festival, who lives in Inazuma City in Hanamizaka. She is a five-star Pyro bow user, and although players may be hesitant to try her out due to her lack of AoE damage, it is possible to build Yoimiya as a powerful DPS character. Alongside Yoimiya's banner, Epitome Invocation also boosts the drop-rate for the event-exclusive Thundering Pulse bow, as well as the four-star weapons Sacrificial Sword, Rainslasher claymore, Dragon's Bane polearm, Sacrificial Fragments catalyst, and Favonius Warbow. There's also a chance to pull Diona and Xinyan, alongside Yoimiya and Sayu. RELATED LINKS: Play Genshin Impact for free, Genshin Impact character tier list, Genshin Impact leveling guide |
| The rate of League of Legends VGUs “isn’t likely to go up enormously in the near future” Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:14 AM PDT Now and then, a big League of Legends VGU - that is, a visual and gameplay update - makes its way to the MOBA game, bringing a raft of changes to the way a champion plays and looks. For example, this year's Dr. Mundo rework saw the Madman of Zaun's abilities, skins, and splash art overhauled. As you can imagine, VGUs are a massive undertaking for the devs at Riot Games, and it sounds like we won't see the rate of them increase any time soon for this reason. Lead champion designer Bryan 'RiotAxes' Salvatore has responded to some questions and suggestions about possibly increasing the number of VGUs pushed out each year, explaining that while the devs don't "dislike" the reworks, there are some issues that limit how many they can realistically tackle at a time. The first of these, the dev says, is that they can "cause churn among existing players of the champions", as "even the respectful, lower disruption ones cause some players of the champion to quit" - a key concern given a number of League players tend to stick to maining a single, preferred champ. Salvatore says that, while a VGU executed well can give players "something cool to play with", they do also mean that something players previously loved playing does get removed in the process. | Where to leave secret documents at a bus stop in Fortnite Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:42 AM PDT Want to know where to leave secret documents in Fortnite? It's finally time to put an end to the alien invasion once and for all. After opening the mission kit and placing a jammer outside an IO base, you'll need to drop some secret documents at certain bus stops on the Fortnite map, in order to attract the attention of a mole in IO who has been working against the human race. However, not all of the bus stops are attractive enough for the mole to notice them. Once you've completed this step, you then need to talk to either one of the following Fortnite NPCs: Joey, Sunny, or Dreamflower. After that, it's just a simple matter of leaving an IO car at an alien settlement and deploying pallets with cat food around an IO base to complete all of this weeks' Fortnite legendary challenges There are four bus stops where you can plant the secret documents, but you need only to leave behind one set of secret documents to complete the challenge. We'll show you where to leave secret documents at a bus stop in Fortnite and with any luck, we'll be able to lure the mole out of hiding. | Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond takes the Martian city builder underground Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:22 PM PDT Publisher Paradox has been teasing a comeback for Surviving Mars for some time, and now we know what to expect from the game's next major expansion. Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond launches next week, and it'll take us below the surface of the red planet to build new types of bases and collect new resources. With the expansion, you'll be able to start building subterranean bases through caves and lava tubes under the Martian surface, using new and old structures as you try to mitigate the potential effects of cave-ins. You'll be able to mine resources underground, or you can build rocket-propelled structures to dig up new minerals on passing asteroids, too. Naturally, the tech tree is getting expanded to help you acquire all these new toys, too. Below & Beyond is set to launch on September 7 on PC via Steam, GOG, Epic, and Humble, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As with the previous Green Planet expansion, Below & Beyond will be priced at $19.99 USD / £15.49 / €19.99. |
| The best Genshin Impact builds for each character Posted: 31 Aug 2021 05:00 AM PDT Looking for the best Genshin Impact builds? Genshin Impact characters are obtainable through banners, which give you a chance to pull various characters and weapons through Wishes. Some characters are more powerful than others - as our Genshin Impact tier list will attest - but no matter who you pull, we're here to help you get the best performance out of them. When putting together a Genshin Impact team, you'll need to take into account Genshin Impact elemental reactions - each character specialises in the use of one particular element, apart from the Traveler, who is able to wield both Anemo and Geo. Swapping your teammates out and using different elements in sequence produces powerful effects, so we recommend using a varied lineup. Some characters are best suited to damage, while others perform better in a support role - depending on the build you choose, you can capitalise on different aspects of their toolkit to help them serve your team better. In order to buff your characters, you need to equip them with Genshin Impact artifacts and Genshin Impact weapons. You can also upgrade your character's Constellations, but this requires obtaining a duplicate of that character from a Wish. Here are the best Genshin Impact builds for each character: RELATED LINKS: Play Genshin Impact for free, Genshin Impact character tier list, Genshin Impact leveling guide |

| Posted: 31 Aug 2021 04:11 AM PDT Looking for the parkour games on PC? Walls suck. Sorry, we said it, walls are the worst. We would far prefer a world where we could just walk straight to our destination without having to navigate around buildings and houses - yuck. There are plenty of action-adventure games that agree with us too you know? Many games these days allow us to traverse the world by scaling sheds, clambering over condos, and aggressively ascending architecture whenever it dares to get in our way. Frankly, that's the way we want to live. Well, why don't we go out and do that in the real world instead of virtually? Well, in case you didn't know, grazing your knees really hurts. Also, we quite like our ankles un-shattered and shoulders firmly in their sockets. That's why we allow some gaming daredevils to do all the parkour for us. Freerunning across a map, soaring over those darn walls feels, and throwing in some neat-looking twirls and flips in a virtual space is what we're all about. So, we're here to highlight some of the best parkour games you can play, if you hate walls and like your ankles as much as we do. |
| Diablo 2 Resurrected Horadric Cube recipes Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:25 AM PDT Want to know all of the Horadric Cube recipes in Diablo 2 Resurrected? You'd be forgiven for thinking that the Horadric Cube, a key item found in the main campaign, is only meant for combining two items together to make one key item. In fact, it's far more useful than that, also acting as a tiny bit of extra storage. Fans of the original Diablo 2 know just how game-breaking the Horadric Cube was. Since Diablo 2 Resurrected is a remastered version of the same game, we already know that barely anything will be changing. This means that not only are all the Diablo 2 Resurrected classes exactly the same as the original game but also every single combination of items you can chuck into the Horadric Cube will remain as it was. So while you wait for the Diablo 2 Resurrected release date, here is everything you need to know about the Diablo 2 Resurrected Horadric Cube: from where to find this treasure in the first place, its extra use as storage, and all of the possible item combinations. |
| Humankind war – combat tips to win battles Posted: 31 Aug 2021 05:05 AM PDT Looking for Humankind warfare tips? Unless you're playing on peaceful mode, chances are you're going to be clashing with your competitors over the course of your game as you jostle for first place and those sought-after fame points for that ultimate victory. In the early game, your first fight might be with bears or mammoths, but as leaders begin to stake claims on the territories surrounding their first city, you can expect skirmishes to occur between the various armies roaming the lands. Before borders are established, this doesn't immediately lead to all-out war, but it'll contribute to the ever-changing balance of 'war support' between nations. War support represents your people's appetite for war, and determines whether you're able to continue the fight, or find yourself with no choice but to give in to your enemies' demands. Individual battles themselves are also relatively complex turn-based tactical affairs that encourage you to manually direct your units in order to achieve the best possible outcome. Here's everything you need to know about combat, wars, and battles in Humankind - good luck taking over the world. RELATED LINKS: Humankind release date, Humankind review, Pre-order Humankind |
