Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel confirmed for a Steam release this winter

Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel promises to be the Yu-Gi-Oh game fans have awaited for ages, with a robust take on the original rule set and plenty of ways to play online. The developers at Konami have unveiled some new details on the game as part of a presentation at Tokyo Game Show, including a rough release window.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel will launch "this winter" for PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. As previously announced, the game will be free-to-play, and a combination of in-game rewards, real money purchases, and events will allow you to unlock over 10,000 cards.

Master Duel will feature a solo mode, with story-driven missions divided up between illustrated narrative segments, practice missions that introduce you to mechanics, and full duels with AI opponents. Only the first half of the Konami Master Duel presentation has been translated to English, though the full-length video with new gameplay is available in Japanese.

Asus TUF Gaming AX5400 gaming router – WiFi 6 on a budget

Asus TUF Gaming AX5400 gaming router – WiFi 6 on a budget

Kitting out your gaming setup is usually a lot of fun. After you painstakingly manage cables to build a gaming PC, and shell out for the perfect peripherals, you're finally ready to venture online. The squad is in the CS:GO lobby and you're ready to go 16-0 on Cache. Then, just after the warm-up period, your connection drops.

Turns out that your ISP's stock router isn't up to scratch, your team is now down a player, and you've earned yourself a nasty competitive cooldown for abandoning the match. It's on this sham of a Friday night that you realise picking up a reliable gaming router isn't the most exciting purchase, but it's one of the most important.

The Asus TUF Gaming AX5400 router is built for every type of gamer, providing you with a reliable connection both wired and wirelessly. It features WiFi 6 functionality, which boasts stronger signals across a wider area compared to WiFi 5. While it's unlikely that you'll have an internet plan that takes full advantage of the speeds that WiFi 6 promises, upgrading your router to the next generation of WiFi should provide you with a more stable connection. This also means that even if your network is stacked with your entire family's devices, all of them will receive the same bandwidth.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s fall plans include a big patch and a spooky festival

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s fall plans include a big patch and a spooky festival

Eivor and company aren't done yet, by any stretch - there's more to come for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Ubisoft has unveiled a new roadmap for the coming autumn in the expansive Viking game. In the next few weeks, we'll see a patch and the new Discovery Tour, with more to come through the rest of the fall.

First up is Title Update 1.3.2, which arrives October 5. Ubisoft hasn't yet published any specifics about this patch, but game updates in the past have included a mix of both bug fixes and new content. The last patch, 1.3.1, added some new rivers to ravage in River Raids, as well as some new skills and gear - so it's probably fair to expect something on a similar scale with the next update.

The PC exclusive expansion version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be next to arrive, scheduled for launch October 19. As we've reported, this is the no-combat edu-tainment addition to Valhalla, in which you'll be able to explore Viking-era England on guided tours that highlight various aspects of life in the ninth century.

Starfield will have more than double Skyrim’s actors and dialogue lines

Starfield will have more than double Skyrim’s actors and dialogue lines

More details on Bethesda Game Studios' upcoming space RPG Starfield are emerging, this time courtesy of its director Todd Howard who has made an appearance at today's Tokyo Game Show with some news. While there wasn't a whole lot of new information revealed in Bethesda's slot at the show, the little titbits shared do give us some valuable insight into the scope of the space game, with Howard confirming that there will be a whole lot more voice actors and lines of dialogue than in Skyrim.

Confirming that Starfield will offer full Japanese translation - including voiceovers - Howard says that it's the studio's "largest translation ever" in his announcement at the TGS (below). He confirms Starfield will have "over 300 actors and over 150,000 lines of dialogue". That's pretty mega.

To put this into context, Bethesda's 2011 fantasy RPG game was reported to have around 70 voice actors (a big jump from the previous Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, which reportedly had 14 voice actors) and around 60,000 lines of dialogue. So, it looks like Starfield's going to have more than double what the studio's (arguably) most famous game did in these respects.

The Game Awards return in exactly ten weeks

The Game Awards return in exactly ten weeks

Are you ready to briefly celebrate the best games of 2021 and immediately start looking toward the horizon? Good news! The Game Awards will return this December with another round of accolades for the year's best games and trailers for upcoming stuff. This year, the show will once again be live and in-person.

The Game Awards 2021 will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021, which as producer and presenter Geoff Keighley notes on Twitter, is exactly ten weeks away. (I'm horrified by the linear progression of time.) The event will occupy the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, for a limited number of invited attendees.

We don't yet know the timing of nominations and judging, but that's typically settled some time before The Game Awards take place. Games launching in December - as with the Halo Infinite release date - almost certainly won't be eligible, and late November releases might be iffy. But hey, at least Cyberpunk 2077 will be eligible this year, right?

The best New World iron ore locations and how to get fae iron

The best New World iron ore locations and how to get fae iron

Looking for New World fae iron? According to the new MMO game's lore, fae iron is iron "tinged with a dark, magical essence". It's an uncommon tier two metal used in refining and smelting. You can get fae iron in exactly the same way as regular iron: mine an iron vein with a pickaxe. There's a small chance that you'll receive fae iron instead of normal iron. However, this is exceedingly rare and without using modifiers to tip the scales in your favour, there's little chance you'll get one out of the blue.

According to the Brave New World fansite, you have zero chance to obtain fae iron from iron veins without boosting a modifier called 'mining luck'. Fortunately, there are several ways to boost your mining luck in New World, which we'll explain below.

If you're not looking for the coveted fae iron and instead want to know all the best iron ore locations so you can level up your trade skills, craft the best New World weapons, and perhaps make money at New World trading posts, we've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know about mining iron ore and fae iron in New World.

Best assault rifle Warzone: what is the top AR in Season 5 Reloaded?

Best assault rifle Warzone: what is the top AR in Season 5 Reloaded?

It's tricky to pick the best assault rifle in Warzone as it's the weapon class with the most options and the most variation between each pick. You've got fast-firing, highly mobile Warzone assault rifles like the FFAR 1 and Groza, all the way up to hard-hitting battle rifles like the Cold War AK47 or Oden. And there are even multiple ways to build each assault rifle in Warzone if you want to make the most out of the best Warzone loadouts.

We've already broken down the best SMG in Warzone and the best sniper in Warzone, so it's time to run through arguably the most widely used weapon type in Call of Duty's battle royale. Since Warzone Season 4, the devs made an effort to reduce the time-to-kill speed on numerous popular weapons. Assault rifles in particular were hit hard, decreasing the damage output on almost every popular weapon. The Warzone Season 5 Reloaded update has continued this trend, delivering nerfs to some of the best assault rifles in the game.

So, which of these Warzone guns is the best in its class? Naturally a huge part of this call comes down to personal preference, but there's no escaping the fact that some of the assault rifles in Warzone boast far superior DPS stats or better magazine sizes than others. Join us as we rank all of the best assault rifles in Warzone, starting with the pinnacle of the weapon type and working down to the weakest choice.

China’s mandated power shutdown could contribute to gaming GPU shortages

China’s mandated power shutdown could contribute to gaming GPU shortages

Last week, we learned that China's crackdown on cryptocurrency mining could help improve consumer GPU availability. Unfortunately, while the Chinese government's virtual currency ban will benefit the gaming PC market, its mandated industrial power shutdowns could worsen the current situation.

For context, China's temporary industrial power shutdown is designed to curb the country's excessive emissions and cap energy carrier prices. Naturally, suspending energy supplies to manufacturing plants directly affects companies that serve the likes of AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. So, the decision could affect tech manufacturing on a global scale, including the production of RTX 3000 series graphics cards.

TSMC and UMC, the two companies that help fabricate the best gaming CPUs, have essentially been given a pass by local authorities in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong. This is largely since both companies' continuous production cycles can't simply stop and start - at least not without consequences. Unfortunately, this doesn't help the likes of ASE Technology and GlobalWafers, who supply TSMC, UMC, and other tech titans with silicone supplies.

The best AUG Warzone setup

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 08:46 AM PDT

The best AUG Warzone setup

Searching for the best AUG Warzone setup? Now that all of the Call of Duty Cold War guns have made their way to the battle royale game, you have the choice between two very different AUGs. The Modern Warfare AUG is an SMG with an excellent fire rate, capable of killing enemies faster than some of the best assault rifles in Warzone.

Unlocking all of the attachments for this SMG will take a while, but you can transform this weapon into a mid-range monster with the correct loadout. There's also the Cold War AUG, a semi-automatic tactical rifle that fires in bursts of three. This variation of the AUG focuses on taking down enemies from a distance, allowing you to have the accuracy of a sniper combined with the mobility of an assault rifle.

Our AUG Warzone build guide covers both of these weapons to ensure you have the best AUG Warzone loadout possible. The MW AUG should be used as a secondary weapon in loadouts, whereas you may want to use the CW AUG as a primary weapon due to its long range capabilities. Many players in Warzone Season 5 Reloaded have been using the Modern Warfare AUG because of its impressive time to kill speeds.

New World oil – where to find seeping stones

New World oil – where to find seeping stones

Want to know where to find seeping stones and get New World oil? Confusingly, there are multiple different kinds of oil in New World. If you're looking for New World Fish oil, it's a simple process: you can obtain fish oil by salvaging caught fish, which you can learn how to do in our New World fishing guide. You can make New World cooking oil by combining two fish oil with one nut, or searching in the supply cart in towns, provided your New World faction controls the town.

Regular old oil is acquired from seeping stones. You need a level 20 mining skill level before you can mine seeping stones, but once you do you can harvest crude oil. You can use New World oil to create coatings at arcane repositories in town to give your weapons buffs against certain enemy types. Oil is also used in potion-making, and when making certain items of furniture. If you're heading into one of the game's many expeditions, including the New World Amrine Excavation, then you may wish to stock up on potions and weapon coatings to bolster your damage.

You can only find seeping stones in two areas: Weaver's Fen and First Light. Finding them early on can be tricky, especially if you don't have level 45 mining skill which unlocks the ability to track the stones; they appear as droplets on your compass at the top of the screen. They yield precious resources and give decent mining experience, so they're worth seeking out. We found a great New World seeping stones oil farming location for you to get oil early in the game.

Call of Duty Cold War and Warzone Season 6 – everything we know

Call of Duty Cold War and Warzone Season 6 – everything we know

Looking for the Call of Duty Cold War and Warzone Season 6 release date? A trailer for the latest season dropped earlier this week, marking the return of Russell Adler. In the previous seasons, Adler was captured and brainwashed by Stitch, but his mind has been restored thanks to Alex Mason and his team. With the NATO team back at full power, the squad is ready to uncover the mystery behind the Verdansk bombings.

Judging by the trailer, we anticipate Verdansk is in for a shake up as several buildings located downtown, including the stadium, have been completely destroyed. We've seen a few changes to the map - like the satellite crash sites - in previous updates, but the last few Warzone seasons have primarily focused on adding new weapons and addressing the long distance meta. This looks like the most drastic map change we've seen in a long time.

Season 6 is likely going to be Verdansk's swan song, before it's replaced with the new Warzone map set in the Pacific. If you thought the map changes coming in Season 6 look big, the Vanguard integration may well knock your socks off. Here's everything you need to know about Call of Duty Cold War and Warzone Season 6, including the release date, which operators are coming to the game, and what weapons are being added.

Best SMG Warzone: which submachine gun to use in Season 5 Reloaded

Best SMG Warzone: which submachine gun to use in Season 5 Reloaded

When it comes to picking the best SMG in Warzone, there are so many candidates to pick from since the Cold War guns made their way to the battle royale game. Warzone Season 5 Reloaded introduced a number of slight tweaks to the SMGs, but nothing significant enough to push them out of the meta.

For the longest time in Warzone, SMGs weren't very popular as most players favoured assault rifles and the best Warzone guns like the AMAX. While the changes introduced in Season 4 Reloaded primarily affect assault rifles, the balance changes also targeted SMGs by reducing their damage output. These changes hit all of the popular SMGs, including the AK-74u, the Bullfrog, and even the Milano 821.

If you're looking for a long-range option to compliment some of your best Warzone loadouts then here's our guide to the best sniper in Warzone. However, when you reach the final circle or need to cross some close-quarters streets to reach the next zone you'll be grateful you have the best SMG in Warzone.

Stellaris’ next patch will drop in November

Stellaris' next patch will drop in November

Stellaris is fresh off a new major update that adds new content to old DLCs, as well as taking a large swing at balance and quality of life changes as part of the grand strategy game's custodian's initiative. While a hotfix was needed to address some newly introduced oddities, the team is largely looking towards its next release, which we're told will be sometime in November.

This week's dev diary is largely devoted to what the team is looking at next, with a general update on the situation going forward. "In the November 3.2 update, our strategy will be to be a bit less ambitious than the Lem Update, and to focus on a bit more safe improvements," the post reads.

The update after that is scheduled to drop in February, and will likely be a bit more "spicy", looking at introducing reworks of Unity and the sprawl mechanics. These particular changes were first mentioned in June, and given their nature the developers are likely to an open beta first.

Monster Hunter Rise comes to Steam in January, with a demo in October

Monster Hunter Rise comes to Steam in January, with a demo in October

It's finally official: Monster Hunter Rise is coming to PCs in January. The Monster Hunter Rise Steam release date was announced during Capcom's presentation at the Tokyo Games Show today, and it's set to launch January 12, 2022. The Steam edition of the co-op game will include a welcome suite of enhancements for PC, and there's a demo you'll be able to try out in a couple weeks.

When it arrives on PC, Monster Hunter Rise will support resolutions up to 4K and ultrawide displays, as well as "high framerates" (although the presentation doesn't specify whether that means you'll have the option to uncap the framerate). However, the PC version definitely features new high-res textures to go with the increased resolution over the Switch edition.

Capcom says it's also optimised keyboard and mouse controls for the PC edition, and you'll be able to use voice chat to communicate with your hunting party members. As with the Switch edition, you'll have a chance to try out Monster Hunter Rise ahead of the PC launch, with a demo that will arrive on Steam on October 13.

Prime Gaming gets one of the best Star Wars games in October

Prime Gaming gets one of the best Star Wars games in October

Another month, another batch of games headed to Amazon's Prime Gaming. Last month, members could get their hands on another classic LucasArts game - Sam & Max Hit the Road - as part of their subscription. For October, there's something somewhat related, though far newer and, well, Star Wars-ier coming to Prime Gaming - one of the best Star Wars games around, Star Wars: Squadrons.

Amazon has unveiled its October Prime games lineup, which is headed up by Motive Studios' 2020 space combat game. Launched just under a year ago, Star Wars: Squadrons sees you take to a galaxy far, far away in the first-person cockpits of starfighters across the Galactic Empire and New Republic navy. The game was pretty warmly received by critics, currently sitting at a score of 79% on Metacritic, while our very own Ian Boudreau gave it a nine-out-of-ten, concluding that, "after such a long wait for a successor to X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Star Wars: Squadrons feels like a lucky shot with a proton torpedo".

Elsewhere in October's mix of ten new Prime games is the 2014 survival horror game Alien: Isolation and 2020 cyberpunk game Ghostunner (which we scored an eight-out-of-ten in our Ghostrunner review).

Forza Horizon 5’s low system requirements will make it easy to get behind the wheel

Forza Horizon 5's low system requirements will make it easy to get behind the wheel

We're due to land in Forza Horizon 5's stunning recreation of Mexico come November 5 and we now know what your gaming PC needs to get you in the driver's seat. Given that the game will also release on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, Forza Horizon 5's system requirements are understandably low. Even so, those with the best graphics cards and best gaming CPUs will be able to push their pedals to the metal with beautiful levels of visual fidelity and blisteringly high frame rates.

There's no news on PC-exclusive settings or features to help boost fps, such as Nvidia DLSS or AMD's FSR, but the developer confirms that Forza Horizon 5 will feature ray tracing. However, the intensive graphical setting will only be used in the game's 'Forzavista' model viewer and requires a compatible graphics card.

Like other new releases such as Far Cry 6, Playground Games recommends you install Forza Horizon 5 on a solid state drive. While this isn't necessary, the best SSDs offer massively improved loading times when compared to HDDs. Whatever your storage solution, you'll need a chonky 110GB of space available to accommodate Forza Horizon 5's vast open-world.

The best grand strategy games on PC

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 05:03 AM PDT

The best grand strategy games on PC

Grand strategy games are an emerging sub-genre of strategy games that typically encompass long periods of history (or, if sci-fi, time), and involve many intricate layers that players need to contend with. It's not just about winning that war or setting up this mine; you've got to develop infrastructure, set policy, and manage internal dynamics over the long term.

This genre often involves the exploration of the map in order to better understand the resources at your command and the position of your enemies – and your friends. Lines blur when picking apart the edge cases, but by and large count on grand strategy games to make the management of your faction the primary part of the experience. They often over-lap with other genres within strategy gaming, especially 4X games, but a key difference can be in framing. Games like Civilization, for example, typically put the emphasis on managing military resources in particular, with other mechanics in a supporting role.

It can also be just as much a case as to what the accepted definitions are and how a game is marketed. In any case, this is definitely a genre worth exploring in more detail.

Here’s a fresh look at American Truck Simulator’s Texas DLC

Here’s a fresh look at American Truck Simulator’s Texas DLC

Earlier this year, SCS Software revealed that American Truck Simulator's next big DLC would be bringing the Lone Star State to the popular truck game. There's no sign of an American Truck Simulator Texas DLC release date just yet, but we do now have some fresh snapshots giving us a good idea of what's coming - and the devs are doing a Steam key giveaway for fans who can correctly guess the locations revealed.

"Perhaps you remember the work-in-progress prefabs from the upcoming Texas DLC, that we have shown on our blog some time ago," the studio says in a Steam blog post. "Well, it's time to shake things up a bit and show you some screenshots from the actual map." There are 12 preview screenshots offering a pretty good flavour of what ATS' Texas will look like when it does arrive, with a smattering of towns, highways, landmarks, and other spots you might recognise from the state.

If you can, you might be able to win a Texas Steam key when the DLC's launched. SCS asks fans to post their answers in the comments of the blog or on any of the game's social media channels - so, on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram - as "a few lucky winners who will guess the places correctly will receive a Texas Steam key after the release".

New World is still breaking gaming GPUs and it’s not just Nvidia’s RTX 3090

New World is still breaking gaming GPUs and it's not just Nvidia's RTX 3090

It seems like everyone is either currently playing New World or are stuck in long server queues to play Amazon Games' new MMO, with it now being the fifth-biggest Steam game of all time by concurrent player count. However, troubling new reports are emerging on the game's subreddit of it bricking players' GPUs despite the developer previously insisting that it is "safe to play" following similar reports that surfaced during the game's beta.

Previously, these issues seemed predominantly limited to Nvidia's best graphics card, the RTX 3090, with a large portion of the blame directed towards soldering issues on EVGA branded cards. However, there are now multiple accounts of the game killing not only RTX 3090s, but also RTX 3080 Tis, RTX 3080s, RTX 3060 Tis, and even RTX 3000 laptop GPUs. Both EVGA and Gigabyte components have, again, been highlighted as particularly vulnerable to being fried.

Amazon Games previously took steps to try and mitigate the issue during the beta through an fps limiter in the game's menu. These new reports, however, suggest the problem is far from resolved, and we've reached out to Amazon Games for further comment.

Eximius Season 2 adds even more depth to the FPS/RTS hybrid

Eximius Season 2 adds even more depth to the FPS/RTS hybrid

If you've ever been playing a first-person shooter and suddenly had the urge to take a top-down view of the map and command some other forces for a minute, or if you've been enjoying a real-time strategy game and felt the desire to get onto the battlefield yourself, Eximius could be the game for you. And with the launch of season two, there has never been a better time to get involved.

For the uninitiated, Eximius is an FPS/RTS hybrid from indie developer Ammobox Studios, pitting two teams of five players against each other in large-scale battles on enormous maps, with the aim of having more victory points than your opponent by the end of the game or utterly demolishing their base. As a ground unit, you'll be able to choose your loadout before hopping into the action and blasting away anyone who comes at you.

But in a unique twist, one player on each team also acts as the commander, and can at any time during a match switch from their first-person view to a top-down look at the entire map. From here, they can spawn more units to join your ever-growing army, command these units across the battlefield, assign units to other player's' squads to give them additional firepower, and unlock new technologies from resources gathered in- game.

Modern war RTS game Wargame: Red Dragon is still getting DLC seven years later

Modern war RTS game Wargame: Red Dragon is still getting DLC seven years later

Wargame: Red Dragon is an ambitious cold war strategy game set in an alternate modern warfare setting. Created by Eugen Systems, it was the final entry in a trio of RTS games before the studio moved on to create Steel Division and Steel Division 2 - two excellent WW2 war games that make use of the same design.

Seven years after release, it seems there's still plenty of interest in this game, however - it's just got a bradn-new piece of DLC that will introduce the South African Defence Force as a playable faction. The new army receives over 90 new units, 20 of which introduce brand new unit models. Red Dragon involves warfare across air, land, and sea, although the SADF doesn't get any naval units in this pack.

The South Africa Nation Pack is the most expensive single-nation expansion the game has received to date, but according to Eugen this is because this expansion "is the first in many years, with the number and quality of (new) models exceeding those featured in previous DLC." And "not only that," the developer explains, "the amount of work required for this expansion was substantial - game development is neither cheap nor straightforward, especially resuming work on a game as complex as Wargame: Red Dragon."

Destiny 2: what is the Nightfall weapon this week?

Want to know what this week's Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon is? Each week you've got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and as of Season of the Lost, you can now get fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny. Two more of these weapons arrived in Season of the Lost, so it's more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule.

In case all these words are new to you, Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up.

The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it's far more likely at higher levels. Your best bet for farming each week's Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, according to YouTuber Aztecross. You should also note that there's no automatic matchmaking above Hero difficulty, however, so you'll need to get a squad together.

League of Legends patch 11.19 - the second of the MOBA game's two pre-Worlds patches - has left the testing grounds for (live) pastures new, and it's now 11.20's turn to make its debut on the PBE for a fortnight of tinkering and test-driving. So, let's dig into it and see what's coming.

So far, we've got some suitably spooky new skins coming up, just in time for Halloween. There are six new styles from League's Bewitching alternate universe line this patch, with lucky champions Fiora, Nami, Poppy, Syndra, and Yuumi getting their own skins, while Morgana gets her Prestige Edition Bewitching skin with 11.20. You can check these out in the New Champion Skins section below to see the splashes and skins in action.

As for balance changes, this patch we've got gameplay updates for Amumu, Darius, Shen, Hecarim, and - well - a good ol' handful of champs. We also know that Rengar will be hanging about for some more testing, though there's no set release patch for his changes just yet. You can catch the latest details on all these changes in the relevant sections below.
