Cursed To Golf is a "golf like" that's also a roguelike with over 80 holes Posted: 01 Sep 2021 10:17 AM PDT No, Cursed To Golf is not the calendar title I've given to my partner's yearly company party, although it could be. It's a "golf like" game that's also a roguelike where you move around the world by slapping shots and staying under par. I may disagree with Chuhai Labs' belief that golf is inherently fun and comprehensible, and yet somehow I sure do like where they've taken this dreaded sport. What a trick shot! Chuhai Labs introduce the foundations of purgatory golf in their new trailer here and it actually doesn't look like torture. |
EGX wants your panel idea submissions Posted: 01 Sep 2021 09:51 AM PDT After ascending to the digital plain for a year, the UK's biggest and best gaming show EGX is physically returning to the London ExCel this October. Tickets are on sale now, along with a full run-down of our Covid safety guidelines if you're still on the fence. If you'd like to take your EGX experience one step further, though, why not get involved by hosting your very own talk or panel? |
Destiny 2's hot new fashion is a trypophobia horrorshow Posted: 01 Sep 2021 09:00 AM PDT If you feel squicked out looking at a lotus pod or dread seeing a boat covered in barnacles, then congrats, you're experiencing the maybe-real sensation of trypophobia. It's one of the phobias coined on the Internet, a fear or unease seeing dense clusters of holes. Perhaps you encountered this with ye olde Photoshopped image of a breast with lotus pod holes. Now I'm excited for more people to discover the horror through the new Iron Banner armour sets added to Destiny 2 this week. |
No Man's Sky is also a sci-fi city management simulation now Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:46 AM PDT No Man's Sky has gone and outdone itself again. Earlier this month, studio head Sean Murray called the Frontiers update "a missing piece of the sci-fi fantasy that we’ve always wanted to add," and I admit I didn't pick up on the hint. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that the Frontiers update would add huge planetary settlements, tons of new base building pieces, Sentinel settlement raids, and the ability to become arbiter and overseer of the local settlement too. No Man's Sky's update 3.6 has launched today with all that and a lot more. |
Valorant's new map Fracture sounds like a defender's nightmare Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:05 AM PDT The next Valorant act kicks off on September 8th, and it's bringing a new map with it. Fracture is a H-shaped battlefield where the defending team will start out in the middle, with the aim of protecting a site on each side. From the sounds of things, attackers will be able to choose which side they head in from too, which sounds rather stressful and a bit confusing. |
Lost In Random is fast, funny and has great combat - once you get past all the Tim Burton cartoonery Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:00 AM PDT A couple of weeks ago I went hands on with Lost In Random, an upcoming EA Original from Zoink. Zoink have done fun, slightly strange games in the past like Flipping Death and Fe, and usually in a blue-purple colour palette. Having now played several hours from the start of Lost In Random, I'm glad to say it's really quite fabulous. But let me tell you, you'll have an urge to mark the time when you first fire it up, if only so you can check how long it takes for a character speaking in rhyme to turn up. It is an inevitability. You'll have been clued in by the extremely "Tim Burton makes a video game!" look of the trailers and screenshots, but it's hard to overstate how much Lost In Random does look like that. |
The best Genshin Impact Kujou Sara build Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:57 AM PDT Want to learn how to create the best build for Kujou Sara in Genshin Impact? Kujou Sara is one of two new characters PC players have access to as part of Genshin Impact's V2.1 update. Her story and abilities are tightly bound up with that of the other new hero, the Raiden Shogun, since the Kujou Clan are devoted servants of the Electro Archon Baal. However, Kujou Sara has her own unique skills in combat — and, from a gameplay perspective, is also quite a bit easier to get hold of for your party than the Raiden Shogun. Read on below for our suggestions on putting together the best build for her. |
The best Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun (Baal) build Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:47 AM PDT Want to learn how to create the best build for the Raiden Shogun, a.k.a. Baal, in Genshin Impact? Raiden Shogun is the title given to the vessel of the Electro Archon of Inazuma in Genshin Impact. Until the Cataclysm that deity was Baal, and although Beelzebul has since taken over, you'll still hear the Raiden Shogun referred to as Baal pretty much interchangeably. Confused? The important thing to understand is that the Raiden Shogun is a powerful 5*, limited-time character; and if you're fortunate enough to get her in your party, you're going to want to know which builds work best for her. Read on below for our suggestions for the Raiden Shogun's best weapons, artifacts, and more. |
Trepang2's demo has fulfilled my craving for a new F.E.A.R. sequel Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:30 AM PDT F.E.A.R. was good and I miss it. Not that it's gone, of course, just that it's one of those dormant series that probably won't come back. If it does? Most likely it'll be proper naff anyway, seeing as numbers two and three weren't exactly pushing things forwards. If anything, it veered from F.E.A.R. to A.C.T.I.O.N a little too heavily in its final days. The original F.E.A.R. had those clean lines, that slow-mo, and an exceptional use of grey. All of which were lost a bit with those follow-ups. But having dipped into the demo for FPS Trepang2, I've realised this might be the closest I can get to a true F.E.A.R. sequel. |
Help, my Steam wish list is under attack from all these great Japanese indie games Posted: 01 Sep 2021 06:26 AM PDT Japanese indie collective Asobu are holding their second annual showcase today, showing off loads of delicious new indie games that I'll no doubt be stuffing onto my Steam wish list before the day is out. Last year's showcase yielded some great new finds on that front - I'm looking at you, Pull Stay - and with over 60 new games to sink your teeth into with this year's selection, I guarantee there'll be something to catch your eye this year as well. While some will no doubt be familiar faces - Eastward, Tangle Tower and Garden Story all feature in this year's line-up, for example - I've highlighted a bunch of my favourites below that have caught my eye. The main presentation is in Japanese, but there are full English subtitles available and you can watch it in full right here or over on Twitch if you prefer. |
It's the first of September, defend yourself! Posted: 01 Sep 2021 03:36 AM PDT |
Apex Legends is patching out a popular movement tech exploit Posted: 01 Sep 2021 03:35 AM PDT Apex Legends is getting rid of tap-strafing, a bit of movement tech that allows players to do speedy mid-air turns without losing any momentum. It was never an intended game mechanic, but something high-level players have discovered that makes it incredibly tough to shoot at them. But last night, Respawn announced that they're doing away with tap-strafing in the battle royale's next patch. |
Chinese mega hit Tale Of Immortal now has an English language version Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:41 PM PDT It's always exciting to me when a Chinese game suddenly becomes popular on Steam. It creates the sensation of having my face pressed against a window, staring at a potentially delicious buffet on the other side which I'm not able to eat. That's how it was with Tale Of Immortal, a seemingly vast open-world, 2D action RPG which, overnight, seemed to have 90,000 positive Steam reviews after it launched back in January. Well, now the buffet window has been smashed, and Tale Of Immortal just added an English version. |
Classic platformer VVVVVV just received its first update in 7 years Posted: 31 Aug 2021 02:29 PM PDT Back in April, we reported that classic platformer VVVVVV was about to get its first update in seven years. Now I can report: classic platformer VVVVVV has now received its first update in seven years. The changelog is huge, but its key additions are 60FPS support, new graphical options, and hundreds of bug fixes. |
Cute photography game Toem is coming out on September 17th Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:55 PM PDT Toem is a hand-drawn adventure game in which you meet strange people and solve their problems by taking photos. It's got A Short Hike vibes, we named it one of the best games of E3, and Lauren dug its demo a lot. Now it's got a release date, September 17th, and a new trailer below. |
Dead Space's remake stream invited viewers inside the "dismemberment gym" Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:11 PM PDT Tonight's Dead Space remake stream made clear ahead of time that what EA Motive would be showing wasn't polished gameplay, but "an early prototype." And so it was. But if you're interested in where EA are taking the survival horror series, it's still worth a watch - particularly once they started showing the "dismemberment gym." |
The Big Con review: a rags to riches coming of age tale Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:53 PM PDT If Hypnospace Outlaw was the perfect distillation of 90s internet culture, then Mighty Yell's debut game The Big Con is a similarly concentrated dose of 90s pop culture. Pastel swirls, bum bags and rad catch phrases abound in this coming of age thrift adventure, in which teenager Ali must loot her way across America to save her mum's video rental store from debt collectors. With just a fistful of dollars to her name at the start of her four-odd hour road trip, Ali will need to bag 97,000 of them by the end of it to come home victorious, and she'll do it via that most tried and tested of video game tropes: the swing meter mini-game. |
