Explore the secrets of The City in Dying Light 2 Stay Human

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:30 PM PDT

February 4 is approaching fast, so why don't we explore The City a little bit more before jumping right in? The vast open world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human certainly has many secrets, and it's time we revealed some of them. Today, let's take a look at The City's unique infrastructure, find out how we can bring it back to life, learn more about the music we're going to hear there, and… meet somebody special.

Though Villedor's hayday is far behind us, the remnants of the old civilization are still there to remind you of what The City once looked like. Long non-functional subway stations, a TV tower, or an abandoned container ship are only examples of what you're going to find. And though many of these elements have lost their original functions, people still find ways to use them to their advantage. As they want to restore at least some aspects of what used to be their normality, their creativity turns old into new, and inspires you to do the same.

So while exploring The City, you may stumble upon a man who's created a post-apocalyptic, analogue version of a dating app, or even an opera singer who's performing her arias among the ruins. But Villedor's beautiful past is also visible in other, much smaller things, such as pieces of old newspapers, records of The City's Mayor's speeches, posters, books, audio cassettes, and other relics you'll find if you take your time to explore the world. And it's worth looking, as these things are full of details on what life used to look like before the apocalypse, all sorts of stories, and human emotions.

But enough about the past. You are going to change the future. The decisions you'll make will play a crucial role in reviving the world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human. For example, you can look for the old electrical substations which have been offline for years now and fix them if you want to. This choice alone will have an impact on how the entire city's going to look. Shops will turn the lights on, and the air vents and electric traps will work again, helping you in combat and navigation. And as you revive the civilization, you'll also get to choose the faction you wish to help—the Peacekeepers or the Survivors. This will determine what people will build on the roofs and, in consequence, The City's skyline.

As the open world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human is really vast and complex, you may wonder how to find yourself in all of this. And, as usually, you'll find all the answers in The City. During the day, you'll meet characters who will help you understand the game's world better. They'll answer your questions, and give you some valuable tips. Then, when the night comes, you'll be able to listen to the tales people tell as they're waiting for dawn. Look for campfire stories, songs, and even street theatres on the roofs. And do pay attention to them! Since your deeds will surely become quite famous, you may find some of the stories oddly relatable…

Besides all the characters you'll meet, on your journey through The City, you'll also have a companion which isn't human –music. Like many other elements of the world, it, too, will react to your choices and actions, supporting both the gameplay and the narrative. Imagine you're parkouring through the rooftops. Your soundtrack will intensify depending on how long you've been running and how many parkour moves you've performed. And if you somehow end up in a dangerous area, it will let you know. You'll also notice that it changes depending on your combat choices. Whatever you'll do, it'll follow, pushing you to try new things and rewarding you for your efforts. And yes, factions, characters, and places have their own unique themes as well, so by choosing alliances, helping people, and following quests, you can build your own musical experience in The City.

We're coming to an end, and those who made it through this whole article will get something special now. We want to introduce you to Lawan, a tough, strong woman you'll be able to befriend (or estrange, should you annoy her) in Dying Light 2 Stay Human. She's really important and won't be easy to forget, as she's played by Hollywood star Rosario Dawson!

She'll show you both the joys and sorrows of The City, and as you get to know her better, you'll realize she's a very complex character with quite a backstory. Make sure you don't get under her skin because… well. You don't want to find out. Oh, and she can be brutally honest too, so don't say we didn't warn you. It's worth it though.

If you can't wait to meet Rosario Dawson as Lawan and see all of this vast open world on February 4, pre-order Dying Light 2 Stay Human now, and make sure to follow our channels for more details about the game.

Season Six of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone launches October 7

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:16 AM PDT

Season Six marks a huge turning point in the Black Ops Cold War and Warzone storylines, as players will experience the epic conclusion of not one but two major events: the finale of Black Ops Cold War Zombies, and the groundbreaking near-destruction of Verdansk. And that's just scratching the surface.

Season Six of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone arrives on PlayStation on October 7. Here's what you need to know:

Alex Mason and new weapons lead the Season Six Battle Pass

Gear up for the final showdown against Perseus with two new weapons, courtesy of the Season Six Battle Pass: the .410 Ironhide and the Grav.

Purchase the Season Six Battle Pass to gain access to all 100 tiers of new personalization content, including Alex Mason, the original Black Ops protagonist, unlocked instantly at Tier 0.

Earn three more weapons — the devastating Battle Axe, new LAPA SMG, and dual-wield Hammer and Sickle — by completing their-game challenges or by purchasing their corresponding Store Bundles throughout the season.

Verdansk reshaped: Stadium and Downtown leveled, new POIs and Gulag

The ultimate confrontation in Verdansk '84 approaches, and the situation couldn't be more drastic. Adler's gone AWOL, sending his CIA colleagues into a panic, and seismic devices located near WWII-era bunkers have triggered a massive explosion in the Downtown area.

Old Verdansk Stadium has come crashing down, offering greater maneuverability throughout the area as you weave in and out of the destruction. Southwest of the stadium, Downtown has also been fractured, its buildings toppled into the fissure. Expect less verticality, as well as new areas to explore in both locations.

Explore the World War II–era bunkers around Verdansk for insight into the events to follow in Call of Duty: Vanguard. And when you're eliminated, fight for a second chance in the new Gulag. Inspired by the original 1v1 maps in the Verdansk of 2019, this Gulag takes you deep into the Zordaya Prison Complex.

Also expect new modes, an updated item pool, and balance changes arriving in Season Six.

Enter Forsaken, the final chapter of Cold War Zombies

Season Six brings the Black Ops Cold War Zombies experience to its epic conclusion. As an otherworldly force threatens to enter our dimension, the Requiem strike team heads straight to the heart of Omega Group's secret test site in western Ukraine. What secrets could be contained within?

Forsaken marks the final round-based map in Black Ops Cold War Zombies and the conclusion of the opening chapter of the Dark Aether story. Those who wish to help Requiem must put their lives at stake to save the world.

New Perk, Wonder Weapon, and support weapons

Become a living weapon with the upcoming PhD Slider Perk. Once consumed, your Operator will trigger an explosion when sliding into enemies, with the size and damage of the explosion increasing the farther you slide. Invest Aetherium Crystals to upgrade the Perk even further, granting boons like full immunity to self-inflicted explosive damage and the ability to trigger explosions when dropping down from great heights.

Discover the new Chrysalax Wonder Weapon within Forsaken as part of its own quest, through completing Trials, or taking a chance at the Mystery Box. Take on new horrors lurking deep within the Dark Aether… and don't forget to hit up the Crafting Table for the new ARC-XD and Hand Cannon and Support Weapons.

New multiplayer maps

Deprogram (6v6, Launch): Enter Adler's broken mind in a wild map representing different fragments of his memories, stitched together for epic and surreal 6v6 combat. Use the Red Doors to travel between memories, setting up power positions and expert plays.

Amerika (6v6, Launch): A secret military facility in the heart of the U.S.S.R., Amerika represents a Soviet facsimile of an American Main Street. Battle through a prop town featuring a pizza shop, theater, and Burger Town mock-up.

Gluboko (2v2 and 3v3, Launch): Fight in small team operations in an underground vault beneath KGB headquarters. Expect fast-paced, rapid-fire engagements as fights spill out around the main briefing table.

PlayStation Onslaught content

Also available in Season Six, and exclusive to PlayStation, is a new Onslaught map – Deprogram – and the Onslaught Elite Limited Time mode.

Onslaught Elite is the challenging standard game mode with one major difference: every surge will spawn an Elite enemy, tripling the danger from the usual survival experience. High value targets, such as Disciples and Tempests, are also included in these surges, making it a true test for the most Elite Operators.

Survive 20 cumulative waves in this new mode, and you get a Legendary Assault Rifle Blueprint known as the "Rock Salt" to show off in your arsenal!

Prepare for The Haunting

Get all this and more, including new Prestige Levels, the new "Fuze" Warsaw Pact Operator, and for horror fans out there… prepare for The Haunting. Halloween is just around the corner! Stay tuned for more.

Aeon Drive: How to save the world in 30 seconds

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:00 AM PDT

You only have 30 seconds to save the world. Sounds complicated? You’re absolutely right! But aside from that, it’s a lot of fun!

We at Critical Reflex are happy to introduce you to Aeon Drive, a platformer in which you have to complete each level in just half a minute, coming to you on PS4 and PS5. If our protagonist, space ranger Jackelyne, can’t manage to reach her destination on time, then the picturesque city of New Barcelona will be doomed.

Aeon Drive: How to save the world in 30 seconds

The task is quite feasible — but only if you know what you are doing. So we’ve put together these few tips — so that when the game launches, you have a better chance of saving the world on your first try. Or on the second one. Or the third…

30 seconds left.

Practice

Each level in Aeon Drive is challenging to complete on the first try — most likely, 30 seconds won’t be enough to find the optimal route. But that’s the most exciting part of the game!

Jackelyne is in a time loop, which means you can make new attempts for as long as you want. A new attempt starts as soon as Jackelyne dies or the timer expires.

25 seconds left.

Teleport

Jackelyne has a teleportation dagger — she can throw it in any direction and instantly move towards it. It’s a really useful piece of technology: thanks to it, you can instantly fly over a huge gap or reach the ceiling.

This ability is essential: thanks to teleportation, you can overcome a laser trap, which would otherwise kill you, or get to an otherwise inaccessible place. In addition, by constantly teleporting, you can move much faster (duh!) — don’t forget that each run is limited by a 30 seconds timer.

20 seconds left.

Control time

Did we already mention that you need to complete the level in 30 seconds? Actually, it isn’t entirely true. Jackelyne can control time, so sometimes, she cheats a little by adding some extra time to this limit.

But it’s not that simple: to get the precious extra seconds, you’ll need to collect time capsules scattered throughout the level, and this can take, well, time! In addition, these capsules need to be activated, and it is not so easy when you are constantly running somewhere, jumping, teleporting, and fighting enemies. To sum things up, in this race against time, you won’t be able to win unless you learn to control time itself!

15 seconds left.

Be careful

The streets of New Barcelona are patrolled by dangerous robots. Your first instinct would probably be to attack them. After all, Jackelyne is exceptionally effective at dealing with them, thanks to her power sword. But it isn’t always the best idea: these precious seconds spent in a battle could probably cost you the whole attempt. Sometimes it is wiser to bypass the robot or run away from it — this could save time and won’t expose yourself to additional risk.

Jackelyne has only one hitpoint: if an enemy robot manages to strike at her, she will die immediately. It’s like in real life… With the exception that Jackelyne can start all over again as many times as she wants. But you should still act carefully — otherwise, you won’t be able to complete the level.

10 seconds left.

Don’t limit yourself

If you’ve failed several similar attempts in a row or if the path takes too long, then it may be a good idea to try a different route. It will definitely be more exciting and more effective than repeating the same actions over and over again.

Each level in Aeon Drive can be completed by taking several routes, some less obvious than others. The more familiar you are with the game, the more options you will see, and the more effective routes you’ll be able to use.

5 seconds left.

Experiment

If you’ve managed to complete the level — congratulations! But that’s just the beginning: Aeon Drive is called "a speedrun platformer" for a reason.

Are you sure that you’ve completed this level in the most efficient way? Maybe you could’ve cut some corners, perhaps you should’ve teleported instead of running in a few places, or maybe you’ve spent too much time getting over some obstacles? Anyway, there is always a reason to try once again!

The game keeps track of your results with a leaderboard: you can always compare your performance to the results of other players. And maybe one day you will find yourself at the top — if you’d set such a goal. Or just call your friends and compete with them in the PVP mode to find out who is the fastest ranger in New Barcelona!

Mission accomplished!

Save humanity as the ultimate cyber ninja: Ghostrunner comes to PS5

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I am thrilled to be able to discuss the launch of Ghostrunner on PlayStation 5. This next-gen version of Ghostrunner allows players to experience all the mind-bending parkour action in its ultimate form, and this new enhanced version of Ghostrunner will provide some exciting upgrades. Before we jump into new features, I wanted to give some background on Ghostrunner and showcase some new gameplay.

Save humanity as the ultimate cyber ninja: Ghostrunner comes to PS5

The story up to now

Ghostrunner takes place in a cyberpunk post-apocalyptic mega-structure in the 22nd century after a cosmic burst of gamma rays wiped out almost all the human population. Artificially grown and augmented humans, known as Ghostrunners, were created to maintain order in this last city known as Dharma Tower. Over time a mysterious figure known as the Keymaster was able to take over Dharma Tower and destroy all the Ghostrunners except for you.

It has been an incredible year for the Ghostrunner community with multiple updates, awesome DLC, and major accolades including a 2020 Action Game of the Year nomination from IGN. In addition to the main campaign, we have loaded Ghostrunner with additional modes that will be available in the PS5 version. These modes include the new Rogue-like version of Ghostrunner called Wave Mode, Kill Run Mode, Photo Mode, Assist mode, and Hardcore mode if you want to put your cyber ninja skills to the test.

This brings us to the new PS5 version of Ghostrunner

Ghostrunner leaps onto PS5 with several enhancements that help unlock its true potential. You will find improved image quality and beautiful detail with ray tracing fidelity mode in the PS5 version of Ghostrunner. With PS5 you can enjoy Ghostrunner in 4K up to 60FPS with ray tracing fidelity mode and in 1080p with 4K backbuffer up to 120 FPS. The visual upgrades bring Dharma Tower to life like never before.

Feel the intense hack-n-slash action with the new haptic feedback for the DualSense wireless controller. With the DualSense controller, each slash through an enemy delivers targeted vibrations designed to immerse you in the experience.

Ghostrunner features an incredible Daniel Deluxe soundtrack that when paired with the DualSense wireless controller and 3D audio will keep you coming back for more. With 3D audio we wanted to give players a feeling of interacting with a living environment that changes through the game. A feeling stretching from vast areas you can explore to small details of city life. The movement of giant cranes in industrial areas, whispers of people talking from their houses, and the Dharma city’s rumble are some of the sounds of the Tower.

Ghostrunner is available on PS5 starting today, September 30. Join the community and share your experiences with us on social for a chance to be featured on our official accounts.

Live by the sword when one-hit-kill fighter Die by the Blade arrives next year

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:31 AM PDT

Hi, my name is Peter Adamondy, chief designer at Triple Hill Interactive and I am excited to share some exciting news about our new one-hit-kill fighting game Die by the Blade.

Live by the sword when one-hit-kill fighter Die by the Blade arrives next year

Firstly, I am thrilled to officially announce that Die by the Blade will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. This has only been possible with the support of our new worldwide publishing partner, Kwalee, who we are excited to be working with and look forward to utilising their publishing knowledge and experience to bring our game to PlayStation consoles across the world.

It has been a rollercoaster ride over the past year and as a development studio we have faced many challenges. We have navigated our way through lockdowns, remote working as well as recruiting new talent to join our team. As we return to a more "normal" way of working, we have been able to push forward with the development of our exciting new game and restart some of the hugely important content updates, like implementing new art assets and finishing motion capture sessions in the studio.

Creating a strategic fighter with a brutal, calculated touch

We all loved playing classic PlayStation titles like Bushido Blade and Way of the Samurai where we were immersed in what felt like real combat situations and how we had to quickly plan and adapt strategies to defeat the opponents. It wasn't about mashing the buttons on the gamepad, it was about performing perfectly timed strikes to disable and win the battle. It felt honourable and respectful but also took a great deal of skill and patience and this is what we loved the most.

Using this as our inspiration we have created a 1v1 sword fighting game set in a gritty "Samurai Punk" world where a modern cyberpunk aesthetic merges with traditional Japanese-inspired themes. Our dynamic one-hit-kill combat system brings to life tense and exciting combat where every ounce of the players skill, strategy and patience will be needed to best their opponent. Your choice of weapon will be vitally important in your success or failure as a warrior of the sword, so we have worked closely with martial arts experts to faithfully recreate an arsenal of traditional swords and fighting moves to master in the game and by using motion capture sessions we can bring a real sense of realism to each fight.

Another important part of Die by the Blade I wanted to share with you are the playable characters. The team has created a roster of seven playable characters, all with their unique backstories, and bring their own unique personalities to the gameplay.

The team worked hard to add a wide range of customisation options so players can tailor their visual style before heading into one of the thrilling game modes. The blend of Samurai Punk meets traditional Japanese can create some stunning character visuals.

Each weapon also defines the moveset of the roster of customisable characters, from the fine precision of the Katana to the quick maneuverability of the Wakizashi, we want each weapon to feel unique to the player and add another depth to the strategic gameplay.

Speaking of game modes, I have lots to talk about here, but I don't want to give too much away too soon! So, all I will say is that Die by the Blade will offer 1v1 online multiplayer, a story-driven single-player campaign, crossplay support, as well as tournaments and additional ranked online modes. I will share more on these as the development progresses, but there will be some truly exciting game modes to get stuck into.

I am excited to see all the hard work of the team coming to life on the screen and I hope I have given you a little taster of what you can expect when Die by the Blade releases for PS4 and PS5 in 2022. Until then, stay safe and may your swords stay sharp, warriors!

A closer look into Final Fantasy XIV’s Yorha: Dark Apocalypse content

Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Final Fantasy XIV Online is full of excitement, and the hype level for our next expansion, Endwalker, is continuing to rise ahead of its release on November 23 (early access from November 19 if you pre-order). Often called a Final Fantasy theme park, FFXIV has something for everybody — from an engaging story and intense battles, to gathering and crafting, and even numerous minigames in the Gold Saucer for those so inclined.

One very special piece of content that came with the current Shadowbringers expansion is one you may have heard about before (or perhaps seen some familiar-looking androids): Yorha: Dark Apocalypse.

The FFXIV development team welcomed NieR series Producer Yosuke Saito and Director Yoko Taro as guest creators to bring the Yorha: Dark Apocalypse crossover to FFXIV. Both teams, over the course of three years, poured their hearts and souls into creating an exciting and unforgettable story and alliance raid series.

The three chapters that comprise Yorha: Dark Apocalypse were released in October 2019, August 2020, and April 2021. This alliance raid faithfully recreated the backdrop of the NieR series within FFXIV, and introduced characters, enemies, and a story that were wholly reminiscent of NieR games — the white-garbed android 2P, a flawlessly recreated bunker (with 2B's room!), and the stunning NieR soundtrack by Keiichi Okabe (including some new, original tracks), just to name a few.

The story begins when you encounter 2P — an android in white

The story of Yorha: Dark Apocalypse begins when the player encounters a mysterious, white-garbed android, 2P, in the ruins of an excavation tunnel.

The player follows 2P to fight a new threat referred to as "machine lifeforms," but along the way, black-shrouded androids 2B and 9S get in their way.

If you have played NieR: Automata before, your reunion with these familiar faces in FFXIV is definitely an element we would love for you to experience on your own. Not only are the characters a big part of it, but the lore and story progression are also a great focal point, which both fall right into the atmosphere of the NieR series.

"The time of revelation may be at hand, but is this tale one of hope…or despair?

Faced with a difficult decision, how will you respond…?"

Hopefully this quick intro piqued your interest, but now that this alliance raid series is fully released, we decided to bring together NieR Series Producer Yosuke Saito, Director Yoko Taro, and FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida to discuss their work.

How did such a unique crossover between the NieR series and FFXIV come about?

Naoki Yoshida: FFXIV is a long-standing live service title, and in order for us to prevent content from becoming too cookie-cutter and thus wearing out our players with a repetitive experience, we sometimes invite guest creators to work with us and spice things up. The alliance raid series, "Return to Ivalice" that we released during Stormblood was very well received, and between the popularity of NieR:Automata and my personal wish to work with Mr. Yoko on something, I decided to reach out and see what we could do.

Yoko Taro: When I first received word about potentially working together, I wondered "Is FFXIV okay…?" I wasn't intimately familiar with FFXIV at the time, so, I was also a bit worried if that team would be okay with mixing in something so foreign into their game world.

Naoki Yoshida: I remember the first thing Mr. Yoko said when I reached out was, "Are you out of your mind?" (laughs)

The NieR series has collaborated with other titles before, but this is the first time it would be crossing over into an MMORPG. Was there anything you were mindful about in that regard?

Yoko Taro: Once we began development, I was very surprised by the various limitations we had to work with from a production perspective. For example, having an external server control when a piece of background music would start playing was something that is unthinkable with a console title.

Boss Battles are Accompanied by the Stunning Music of Keiichi Okabe

In preparation for creating this crossover, I asked what the FFXIV team was expecting, and they told me about "Return to Ivalice." I referenced that at first to get an idea of the volume of the quest content.

Yosuke Saito: We were fortunate enough that NieR: Automata was approached by various titles to collaborate, and we followed through with a lot of them. In many of those cases, they only involved using NieR characters as an avatar, or including an appearance of 2B or 9S — more were a one-off without any substantial story behind them. This was the very first time we worked together with another title on such a large scale, and to be honest, the load it placed on the team was much larger than I thought (laughs).

What would you like players who have yet to play the content to keep their eyes out for?

Yosuke Saito: The motivation can be as simple as "I want Yorha equipment!", but it would be great if people can touch upon the world of NieR through Yorha: Dark Apocalypse. If this alliance raid captivates you, it might be worth checking out other titles in the series, such as NieR:Automata and NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, the updated version of NieR Replicant released this past April. I would love for players to try these games out as well.

Each of the Yorha: Dark Apocalypse Raids Rewards You with NieR-inspired Equipment Sets

Yoko Taro: This raid series mixes the worlds of NieR and FFXIV, but from the beginning I was thinking, "I'm okay even if people don't play this." I wanted it to be meaningful even if it wasn't played. I say this because in MMOs, there are some players who just log in and, for example, play Doman Mahjong in the Gold Saucer all day. You don't have to play every single piece of content, but you always know that there is content off in the distance waiting for you. Having the option to choose what you do is what makes an MMO interesting, and it makes MMOs that much more robust than a console game.

In order to unlock Yorha: Dark Apocalypse, your character will have to be high level, so not all players will play through this content. What I'm trying to say is, ultimately, nobody has to do this alliance raid. (laughs)

That's what makes MMOs great.

(Really, though, you should definitely experience Yorha: Dark Apocalypse—it's amazing)

Naoki Yoshida: I think what Mr. Yokois saying here really hits the nail on the head, and that is exactly the nature of MMOs. Since A Realm Reborn, we've vastly expanded on the variety of content players can choose from, so that players would have plenty of "dishes" to enjoy — this is exactly the reason why we added this crossover content.

Nobody has to play everything; we look to provide a wide variety of content, and there are numerous players who enjoy many of them in their own way. Getting a sense of belonging in our game world yourself makes it all worthwhile.

It makes me happy even if our players see the content in game and think, "that seems really cool, I think I'll want to do that someday." I will continue to place importance on creating an abundance of content that allows players to feel this way.

All three chapters of the Yorha: Dark Apocalypse crossover are available, and FFXIV players who are level 80 and have completed the Shadowbringers main scenario can experience it right now! If you aren't quite there yet, worry not — as Yoshida mentioned, new content is always on the horizon, and it is something to look forward to as you continue your journey.

We'll soon have another alliance raid series following the release of Endwalker in November — this time around we won't be having a crossover with another title, but Myths of the Realm will be an original creation by the team focusing on the Twelve, who have until now been shrouded in mystery…

Definitely something to look forward to! Until then, we hope you enjoy everything else FFXIV has to offer.
