Cop Hating Leftists Are Triggered by Pixar’s New Buzz Lightyear

Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:50 AM PDT

Disney’s latest Buzz Lightyear spinoff was not exactly anticipated by moviegoing audiences. It is a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, and it stars Chris Evans as the voice of the “real life” Buzz Lightyear, a human space hero on whom the toy figure is based. As a result, it’s a type of origin narrative for the action figure doll. However, when the first teaser for Lightyear was released, it elicited some weird reactions on social media, such as “Buzz Lightyear looks like a racist cop.”

This is social media, after all.

So these fools consider a Caucasian guy with a huge jaw and a severe demeanor, a racist cop? The results of any Twitter search for “Buzz Lightyear cop” will turn up several more of these kinds of hottakes. Buzz Lightyear’s official job title is “space ranger,” which sounds like a position in law enforcement. So I suppose he certainly looks the part!

“Real Buzz” is still recognized as the same action figure, although there are several noticeable variations between him and Buzz from Toy Story. His hair is visible (! ), his brows are thicker, and his eyes are smaller. This makes sense since, although the Toy Story character was designed to appear foolish and naïve, and apparently the real Buzz Lightyear is a genuine astronaut.

Schwarzenegger Says if You’re Not a Global Warming Alarmist, You’re “Stupid”

Posted: 02 Nov 2021 04:00 PM PDT

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a fervent advocate for the environment for years, and in preparation for this past weekend’s COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, he not only scolded those who don’t subscribe to his climate alarmism, but called them "stupid" and "liars.” The action star, bodybuilding physique, and former governor of California addressed world leaders by claiming that they only protect their own interests.  It is still unclear how seriously these global leaders take an actor who has played an alien fighting mercenary, or who has been a emotionless, time-traveling, killing machine.

Former Supporters Abandon Schwarzenegger Over 'Screw Your Freedom' Rant

During an interview with the BBC, the True Lies star expressed his disappointment with the kind of pretexts frequently used to minimize the climate crisis, and tried to make the argument that the global economy and the environment, can go hand in hand without any problem creating jobs related to the struggle.

"They are liars, they are stupid. It can protect the environment and protect the economy at the same time. We found out how to do it [in  California], it's about having the balls to do it. […] You can have global capitalism, but you have to be smart about it. You can have the best [economy] of the world, but if people are dead, they are dead, it's over. […]

Facts and figures will not sell the ticket. If you are going to sell a movie, you can't talk about how you did the financing or what special effects you used, you have to tell the story, you have to make people go to see the movie, seduce them.”

Schwarzenegger is no stranger to climate alarmism. According to Breitbart News, in 2017 he called for a "grassroots revolution" to continue the battle against global warming after then President Donald Trump announced the United States would withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

The actor urged global citizens and world leaders to "rise up" and save Planet Earth from Trump's predations. "One man cannot destroy our progress, one man can't stop our clean energy revolution, one man can't go back in time. Only I can do that," Schwarzenegger proclaimed.

The former bodybuilder was branded a “girly man fascist” over the summer when he claimed anyone who didn’t wear a mask outside or in public areas was an “absolute moron” and that those complaining about their “freedoms” should shut up. “Screw your freedoms” he said as he embraced totalitarianism.

Watch: Several Spider-Verse Easter Eggs in Sony’s Latest ‘Morbius’ Trailer

Posted: 02 Nov 2021 01:10 PM PDT

After two successful Venom movies, Sony is looking for other Spider-Man-adjacent characters to bolster its non-MCU Marvel fare. Multiple Spidey rogues and anti-heroes have their own flicks in development and the vampiric Morbius will be the next to hit the screen.

Morbius, starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire, was supposed to be released back in 2020, but the pandemic had other plans and the film is now eyeing a January 2022 release.  In Morbius, Dr. Michael Morbius suffers from a very rare disease that attacks the blood. In addition to caring for others with the same illness, he is incessantly searching for an alternative cure or treatment. Recognized for his work and with a great reputation, he lets himself be led down a path that ends up making him a kind of " synthetic vampire ", if we can use that term.

Fans have been waiting a while to see Morbius, especially since the first trailer arrived online early last year. We’ve still got a couple of months to go before Morbius is in theaters, but Sony has finally released a second trailer to show off a little more of the action. Take a look below.

YouTube Video

But many people noticed more than one “Easter egg” in this new trailer which seems to indicate this film exists in the much wider Spider-Verse. Did you catch these references to other Spider-Man villains?

As We Got This Covered points out:

Interestingly, the latest trailer for Morbius featured Easter Eggs that nod towards all four Spidey franchises in the space of a single clip. Obviously, the film is part of the Sony-verse so that ticks one box, while the appearance of Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes ties it directly to the MCU.

Jared Leto's vampiric antihero walks past a mural in one shot that looks suspiciously like Tobey Maguire's version of the iconic superhero, while a closeup on the newspaper he's reading at one stage teases Rhino and Black Cat. The former was briefly played by Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also featured Felicity Jones as Felicia Hardy in a brief part that was almost certainly going to be paid off in the future. One trailer, four Spider-Man franchises referenced; Morbius is dropping quite the breadcrumb trail already.

Morbius is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 28, 2022.

‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Reportedly Starting Production Ahead of Schedule

Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:10 AM PDT

Nerd Stash reports that the coming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka, focused on Ahsoka Tano, has reportedly begun production. Even though the series is ahead of schedule, Rosario Dawson will also reportedly begin filming this winter.

Writer and producer Marc Bernardin spoke about the production of the series. This happened as he co-hosted a recent episode of Fatman Beyond Podcast. He spoke about trying to hire Dawson for a short film he's doing in December. The actor reportedly declined Barnardin's project due to a Star Wars show she's involved in. It is scheduled to film at the same time, according to Dawson.

He goes on to describe the situation, saying, “Kevin Smith helped me connect with somebody who was going to be in the cast but couldn't make it happen. It was Rosario Dawson… she was my first choice, and I wanted her very, very badly. She read the script and she loved it, but she was like, ‘Listen, I'm going to be in Manhattan Beach making a Star Wars show, and, uh, I can't be in your short.’ Which I was like 'Okay!' That checks out!"

‘High Guardian Spice’ Near Universally Hated by Crunchyroll Viewers

Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:40 AM PDT

Crunchyroll’s original anime “High Guardian Spice” has finally been launched, after several delays and disputes. And the series has not been well accepted by their anime viewers, with a current rating of 1.4/5, making it Crunchyroll’s lowest rated original anime.

Is Crunchyroll About to Cause Animegate?

When the event was unveiled in 2017, it was already in hot water. Raye Rodriguez, the show’s creator, made several provocative statements about how this was supposed to help Japanese animators somehow and that the series was planned to premiere in early 2019, however it was postponed for unclear reasons. Now that the anime series has been released, it’s being severely panned in every aspect, including animation, script, and voice acting.

Here are some reviews from the Crunchyroll website:

★✰✰✰✰ Kapo1984: …just watched first 3 episodes so gave it fighting chance and there’s no chance I would watch 4th one.

Nothing to do with anime.
Tragic voiceover.
Tragic script.
Storyline oh wait I seen it already on Netflix.
There’s absolutely nothing good about this series.

★✰✰✰✰ Kanim3: It’s not an anime. It doesn’t look like an anime, feel like an anime, it wasn’t bases on anything that was made in Japan, I’m pretty sure no one from Japan even helped make it. The only reason that I can think that could make it be classified as an anime is the literal translation of anime being animation. If it was placed next to Japanese anime it would stick out like a sore thumb.

★✰✰✰✰ Z3phyrus  This is trash. Everything feels so forced

★✰✰✰✰ linefr3 This show tries so hard to be inclusive but ends up feeling like they included no one. Everyone can be described as: the lesbian, the cross-dresser, the trans person, with little to no personality, and it ends up feeling like the creators are just filling out a checklist, instead of actually making a character

And the single star reviews just continue to roll in.

The folks at Clownfish TV have been following the troubled production of High Guardian Spice, and went so far as to watch the entire series. They were the first to bring the poor reaction by audiences to our attention.

YouTube Video

High Guardian Spice is Crunchyroll’s first foray into Western Animation, being a largely generic fantasy setting with magical girl elements and a fantasy school backdrop, inspired by the likes of Steven Universe and relatively family friendly note despite its TV-14 rating and the content warnings before every episode. While creating their own content normally wouldn't be a problem, many subscribers insisted that Crunchyroll is for Japanese animation and drama and shows like High Guardian Spice would be more at home on something like Cartoon Network or HBO Max.

Medical Educational Comic Features the Best Kind of Diversity

Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:15 AM PDT

The Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Foundation has a scientific article about a subject that, as they acknowledge, can be embarrassing to discuss in polite society:

Doctors often deal with medical conditions that might be somewhat embarrassing or just difficult for patients to understand. Inflammatory bowel disease, a serious and debilitating condition that, as the name implies, affects the intestines and everything that comes out of them, is one of those ailments.

Medical providers who treat and investigate IBD have to find ways to explain their patients' situation during medical appointments that may last less than 30 minutes—all while the patient and their caregivers might be overcome with emotion or concern. Too often what the doctors tell them is lost or only partially retained.

Dr. David Suskind, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Seattle Children's Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, realized that the caregivers of the children he treats can read pamphlets or educational books about the disease, but he didn't have anything specific for the kids that explained their condition.

Suskind also understood that having better-informed patients and families would lead to better treatment results.

"One of the things that we do know in medicine is that when patients are educated, when they know what they're doing and why they're doing it, there is a much higher compliance, much better quality of life and expectations," Suskind said. "Education equals better outcomes— a hundred percent."

This realization led Suskind to create the "Professor Nimbal Comic" for children and their caregivers. The comic explains the concepts of the disease in a fun and simple way, so the patients would understand what IBD is and what it does to a person's gut. It would also tell the children that they could be treated, and that the vast majority would get better.

Sounds like an impressive idea. And this educational comic, unlike a lot of the politicized stuff coming out of the mainstream now, is aimed at what constitutes real diversity in audiences:

Suskind said the comic was first translated into Spanish locally because of the large percentage of Latino children who are treated at the hospital. He then teamed up with gastroenterologists from around the world to help translate into eight other languages, which would help to provide care for patients from diverse backgrounds.

The comic so far has been translated into Portuguese, Hebrew, Urdu, Hungarian, Romanian, Dutch, French and Arabic.

Suskind said he has received a good response from both the children and their parents.

"It was really made with the kids in mind and trying to help with the educational process, but the parents seem to really enjoy it. They actually come back with not only really nice positive feedback but also with more questions," Suskind said.

See, this is the real meaning of diversity – different nationalities and languages, along with countries where this can be marketed. Most publishers today specializing in superhero fare are only interested in skin color and LGBT ideology (and the only religion they consider valid is Islam), not ethnicity/nationality, and they don’t even respect any foreign nation’s most positive cultural aspects. The path the doctor who conceived these medical graphic novels is taking a much better route by developing a medical story that can be translated for other countries’ populations to understand.
