Zombie Film ‘Final Cut’ Drops Sundance After Festival Changes to Virtual Over COVID Fears Posted: 13 Jan 2022 10:55 AM PST
Oscar-winning filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius ("The Artist") announced that his latest film Final Cut will no longer premiere as part of the Sundance lineup after the film festival canceled its in-person component. In a statement, Hazanavicius and the team of filmmakers explained their decision to pull the project.
"We fully support Sundance's decision to move the festival to a virtual format, as the safety of audiences and filmmakers is of paramount importance," they stated. "However, we believe that it is best to premiere 'Final Cut' in a theater with a live audience and have made the difficult decision to remove the film from this year's festival. We wish Sundance and all the filmmakers involved an excellent festival and look forward to sharing 'Final Cut' with audiences very soon.”
Things go badly for a small film crew shooting a low-budget zombie movie when they are attacked by real zombies. Final Cut, the French remake of Shinichiro Ueda’s 2017 Japanese film One Cut Of The Dead center on a zombie outbreak that happens while a crew is trying to shoot a low-budget zombie movie. Ueda’s original film was highly praised for breathing fresh life into the genre, and since Hazanavicius’ The Artist won five Oscars in 2012 including Best Picture, the French remake is highly anticipated. Final Cut stars Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, Grégory Gadebois, Finnegan Oldfield, Matilda Lutz, and Raphaël Quenard.
Sundance organizers announced last week that the 2022 edition of the film festival would be presented virtually, due to rising cases of COVID-19. "Final Cut" is the only film to date to drop off the Sundance lineup, after the festival pivoted to a virtual model in 2021.
The 2022 Sundance Film Festival will begin virtually on Thursday, January 20. The festival, which runs January 20-30, is just one of a growing list of notable events to cancel or postpone their in-person plans.

FX’s Alien TV Series to Focus on A.I. & Cyborgs More than Xenomorphs Posted: 13 Jan 2022 08:25 AM PST
Noah Hawley, the filmmaker who hopes to resurrect the Alien property, has recently revealed some intriguing facts about his future television series. With the 20th Century Fox property now under Disney’s umbrella, Hawley has revealed to Esquire that his Alien FX series will focus on advances in artificial intelligence and the development of cyborgs for the first time.
“It’s set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one it is … In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence-but what if there are other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg enhancements or transhuman downloads? Which of those technologies is going to win?”
While fans of Alien and Aliens (I know there are fans of Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection, but they are at the very least divisive, and get a hold of the Alien3 workprint edition if you can) will be disappointed to learn of the series’ large scale rather than the claustrophobic terror, it does sound like Noah Hawley has found a logical way back into the original story. For those who are concerned about Hawley’s investigation of AI and cyborgs, many of whom will no certainly be reminded of Alien: Covenant and Prometheus, the filmmaker goes on to explain his knowledge of the franchise and why he took this route.
“Alien is a fascinating story because it’s not just a monster movie; it’s about how we’re trapped between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both trying to kill us. As Sigourney Weaver said in that second movie, ‘I don’t know which species is worse. At least they don’t [frick] each other over for a percentage.’ Even if the show was 60% of the best horror-action on the planet, there’s still 40% where we have to ask, ‘What are we talking about it, beneath it all?’ Thematically, it has to be interesting. It’s humbling to get to play with the iconography of this world.”
Noah Hawley clearly knows a lot about the Alien franchise and has spent a lot of time thinking about how to best bring the Xenomorph universe back to its former glory.
The Alien television series is being created by FX for broadcast on Hulu, as announced during Disney’s Investor Day presentation in 2020. Noah Harley, best known for the shows Legion and Fargo, has been on board since the beginning and has cautioned fans to be patient because it will take some time. “”Everything is going great,” he assured. “Unfortunately, considering the scope of the project, it’s moving slowly.” Despite this, new sources claim that filming on the Alien franchise will commence in March 2022. Mike Baron’s ‘Thin Blue Line’ Pushes Back Against Leftist Propaganda Posted: 13 Jan 2022 06:15 AM PST
Police 1 has an article covering Mike Baron’s new graphic novel Thin Blue Line, which describes the story as follows:
Two months earlier, as noted by Newswires:
And on FOX News this past weekend:
The book is intended to be a response to the Antifa/BLM riots from nearly two years ago, which cost millions in damages for every leftist-run city where they took place, and caused deaths galore in their wake.
Let’s be clear. With all the rancid leftist propaganda that’s been dominating much of the entertainment industry for years already, that’s why a proper response from a right-leaning viewpoint is necessary. Why, it’s also necessary to confront Islamic jihadism in very much the same way, which is why I’d appreciate if somebody with the right skills would develop similar graphic novels focused specially on the subject, and address issues like the Charlie Hebdo massacre to boot. Another subject that, much like the issue in the Thin Blue Line, many USA publishers refuse to associate with nowadays.
I highly congratulate Baron for tackling the issue regarding the riots of the past two years. And I hope there’ll be some experts out there who’ll also craft some graphic novels drawing from the topics I’ve cited above as well, because those issues are equally serious ones that need focus in the medium.
The book is still available for pre-order here and here. It’s currently the top most funded live campaign for graphic novels over on Kickstarter, but somehow wasn’t chosen as one of their “Projects We Love”…

MCU’s Fantastic Four Reboot is ‘No Way Home’ Director’s Next Film Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:45 AM PST
Spider-Man: No Way Home is dominating the global box office, and director Jon Watts has found himself as one of the busiest filmmakers in Hollywood.
This week, it has been revealed that the Spidey helmer is leading the way as a producer on a Final Destination reboot for New Line Cinema. Last year, it was also revealed Watts was on board a project featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt for Apple. With an increasingly full plate, it still looks like the director’s next project will indeed be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent Final Destination report from Variety, the trade mentions Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot is likely the next thing Watts will shoot. Interestingly enough, Fantastic Four still has yet to receive a release date from Marvel Studios, and virtually nothing has been revealed about the project outside the fact it’s something Marvel Studios is actively developing. No writer or cast has been attached to the project yet.
But if it is, in fact, Watts’ next project, it stands to reason the film will begin principal photography sometime this year and be released in late 2023 or early 2024.
