The Rock is Turning One of the ‘Biggest’ Videogames Into a Film

Posted: 28 Jan 2022 03:45 PM PST

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fans have a lot to speculate about. In a recent interview, the Jumanji star hinted that he was working on another movie based on a video game, but he didn’t say which one.

“I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen – one that I’ve played for years," Johnson told Men's Journal. He did, however, indicate that the news will be announced later this year and that it is a game he enjoys.

The actor and former wrestler also assured fans that the upcoming film will “do right by our gamer friends” while also being “a great movie” to see.

Johnson has previously starred in two movies based on video game IPs, 2005’s Doom, as well as 2018’s Rampage. He was also in the two recent Jumanji movies, in which he plays a video game character. Sounds like this is definitely right up his alley.

The Rock will next be seen in his own DC superhero film, Black Adam, which is scheduled for a July release, and is also lined up for the Jungle Cruise and Red Notice sequels.

Any guesses to which game it might be?

Another Celebrity Dwarf Offers Solution to Snow White Controversy

Posted: 28 Jan 2022 02:15 PM PST

After Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage publicly expressed umbrage at Disney being considered “progressive” over their Snow White live action film casting decisions, calling it “f–king backwards” to reinforce certain stereotypes that he had hoped would remain in the past, comedian and actor Brad Williams shared his own ideas on how Disney should handle the seven dwarfs in their upcoming remake.

Williams, who was born with dwarfism himself, doesn’t necessarily disagree with Dinklage’s opinion, but speaking with TMZ about the situation he explained how Disney could fix the problems. For his part, Williams would like to see Dopey and the gang still be a part of the live-action remake, but this time suggests the dwarfs should serve as romantic interest possibilities for Snow White. He also added that many actors with dwarfism, himself included, would still be quite happy to star in the film.

“He’s right, but at the same time, I’m torn, because it’s like, yes, it’s mildly offensive, but at the same time, I kind of need the work,” Williams explains. “I think there’s ways to fix it. I think there’s ways you can still do a progressive Snow White and not offend the dwarfs. Like, make Snow White end up with one of the dwarfs, how about that? I mean, she goes for a prince, who made out with her while she was legally dead. I mean, that’s kind of creepy, right? She should go for one of the dwarfs!”

The comedian adds: “I mean, they have jobs, you know? They got good friends. They got a house. They like to protect her. They’re diamond miners, so they’re rich. They’re self-made, wealthy. It’s not like the prince, who’s just like, ‘Do you know who my father is?’ Come on, how about you end up with the dwarfs, and you have a progressive Snow White, and everybody’s happy.”

After Peter Dinklage’s oddly misinformed criticism went viral, Disney offered a public response to address the controversy. The company noted that they were “taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community" with the goal of not reinforcing any of the stereotypes depicted in the animated original. Officially, Disney stated that more details would be revealed in the future about how they will handle these characters.

It has since been reported that the plan may be to substitute dwarfs for “magical creatures,” according to casting sheets for the film, suggesting that Snow White’s seven friends will look nothing like the dwarfs in the animated movie and will instead be something else entirely. There’s no word yet on if they will still be cave miners who share a single cottage with unique names based on their personalities.

The Many Rumored Cameos in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

Posted: 28 Jan 2022 09:15 AM PST

The Multiverse of Madness, starring Doctor Strange, is shaping up to be the next big MCU event. Now I’m hearing rumors about several cameos, and some of them have really piqued my interest.

For the MCU, the year 2021 was all about the multiverse; episodes like What If…? and Loki provided us vastly diverse viewpoints on some of our favorite characters, and Spider-Man: No Way Home brought together three popular Spider-Man franchises and their respective adversaries in one spot. With the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this May, the concept will be taken even farther.

Hollywood and entertainment maven, Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer had this to say about the recent screening of the sequel.

In the film Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) must thwart another threat to all of humanity with the help of returning favorites Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Wong (Benedict Wong), as well as MCU relative unknown (and wildly unpopular comic character) America Chavez played by Xochitl Gomez. Hopefully it won’t be the Gabby Rivera version of the alien superhero… But there have been a few recent rumors have suggested cameos from Loki, Professor X and Deadpool, several X-Men, and even a few surprise visit from alternate versions of heroes in the MCU.

Grace Randolph also commented on some of the surprise cameos, but resisted the urge to spoil them.

But the drips keep coming, because BGR provided this updated list of all the rumored Multiverse of Madness cameo appearances that seem to fit:

  • January 6th, 2022: Black Bolt (Anson Mount)
  • December 30th, 2021: Magneto (Ian McKellen), Storm (Halle Berry), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Cyclops (James Marsden), Bruce Banner (Eric Bana), Hulk (Edward Norton), Ghost Rider (Nicholas Cage), Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire)
  • December 21st and December 27th, 2021: Several X-Men (unspecified), Mr. Fantastic (unspecified), Iron Man (unspecified), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds); Kaecillius (Mads Mikkelsen), Emil Blonsky (Tom Roth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Mobius (Owen Wilson), Captain Carter (Hailey Atwell), Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd), Supreme Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Iron Man (Tom Cruise), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), Billy and Tommy Maximoff
  • December 13th, 2021: Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor X (Patrick Stewart)
  • November 29th, 2021: Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Mobius (Owen Wilson)
  • November 3rd, 2021: Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Monica Rambeau's Captain Marvel (Teyonah Parris), and Balder the Great (unspecified)

BGR also cautions readers that unlike the No Way Home plot leaks that trickled out, these Multiverse of Madness leaks could be a bit more complicated because the studio went back for extensive reshoots to tweak the story and bring in more cameos, possibly due to the success of Spider-Man at the box office. So any leaks you read that are older than October 2021 are being disregarded.

What do you think of these potential cameos? Are you looking forward to the next Doctor Strange sequel?

‘Saga’ is Back at Image Comics, Along with Its Far-Left Politics

Posted: 28 Jan 2022 07:10 AM PST

CNET is fawning over the return of Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga, which continues to incorporate quite a bit of the usual leftist talking points into its narratives:

Be warned: Saga is a traumatic read. Not only are there a lot of major character deaths a la Game of Thrones, but the characters endure and work through some heavy topics and heartbreaking moments. Drug abuse, PTSD, religious fanaticism and LQBTQ rights are some issues explored in stark detail throughout Saga. Because of that, reading Saga feels like watching the news as some of the worst aspects of humanity are put on display at times, but there are no soundbites, just characters learning to cope.

Gee, wonder what kind of religious fanatics could those be in the story? It’s doubtful they’ve written up any criticism of Islam, that’s for sure. So, we must assume Judeo-Christianity is the complaint made by Saga in that regard. And why must everybody simply learn coping, but not how to overcome?

Maybe even more bewildering:

There are no heroes and villains in Saga. Villains rescue people from slavery. Heroes shoot and kill bystanders. Characters trying to survive make horrible choices. Afterward, we are left to consider that maybe everyone has the capacity to be a hero and a villain? Perhaps those terms are outdated and need to be reevaluated.

If there’s no distinction made between good and bad (except for maybe any attacks made on the aforementioned Judeo-Christian religions), what good is this tale? Let us be clear. When it comes to those we consider heroes, of course in real life, even some heroes do have flaws and disappointing moments. But if this book can’t emphasize why it’s worth admiring the good one can do in life, then it’s making the same mistake as countless other stories passing for pastimes these days: mimicking the mainstream news channels on TV instead of focusing on entertainment value and merit. And maybe it’s better not to sell the audience on trauma?

Why don’t these modern PC scribes ever consider that?
