Relicta is the next free game on the Epic Games Store Posted: 13 Jan 2022 05:00 PM PST At this point, everyone knows the Epic Games Store drill. The Fortnite kings over at Epic Games give out a free game every week, allowing players to jump in and experience a new title for no cost. It’s a good deal for simply having the Epic Games Store launcher installed, as you’ll probably find a game you’re interested in sooner or later. If you haven’t jumped into the Epic Games fervor yet, maybe this is the week for you. Relicta, the first-person physics-based puzzle game will be free on the Epic Games Store next week. Now, I was no physics star in high school. In fact, I failed magnificently, with low marks all around. So maybe a game that leans on physics-based gameplay is not for me, as my brain cannot properly understand why or how objects fly in the air. But maybe you’re different from me and want to give the game a chance. In fact, Relicta was received well by us, so most players will probably end up enjoying it anyways. Physics is puzzl... |
Ubisoft’s The Settlers gets a March release date, closed beta coming this month Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:45 PM PST The Settlers is a rather storied franchise dating back to 1993. Developed by Blue Byte, the series was eventually distributed by Ubisoft by the fourth title and turn of the century, leading to releases through 2010. But Blue Byte then focused on the Anno games, leaving The Settlers to languish for more than a decade. Now, however, Ubisoft has announced that the reboot of The Settlers has a release date and will be out in couple of months. The game brings the series back to the land of the living by allowing players to once again set up their own settlements just like the good old days. The game is set to release on March 17, so we’ve got a couple of months to go before we can jump in. This reboot of The Settlers is being developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf. It’s one of Ubisoft’s three German development houses that were all under the Ubisoft Blue Byte umbrella prior to that name being phased out in 2020. This new iteration is said to be strongly inspired by fan favorit... |
There are 20 different Intel ARC GPU IDs noted in upcoming Linux Mesa driver update Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:30 PM PST Intel still has much to reveal about its upcoming ARC Alchemist GPU lineup due later this year, but a Linux Mesa driver update has revealed a few more clues about how many products we could expect. As spotted by Phoronix, Intel’s open-source Linux graphics driver developers have revealed plans to support 20 different models, though that doesn’t necessarily mean we should expect so many options. We know Intel plans to release desktop and mobile lineups for its first wave of graphics cards, but 20 different device IDs sounds like a tall order. The list likely accounts for engineering samples, low-end variants, models that are not guaranteed to release, and of course the surefire mainstream gaming-tier entries such as the 512 execution unit model that’s rumored to challenge Nvdia’s RTX 3070 family. Seeing as Intel didn’t have anything substantial regarding ARC to show at CES 2022, it remains unclear if the graphics cards will still launch in Q1 this... |
King Arthur: Knights Tale release date has been delayed again to late March Posted: 13 Jan 2022 03:15 PM PST The fine folks over at NeocoreGames can’t help but to keep teasing us. Once scheduled for a February release date, King Arthur: Knights Tale has been delayed once more. Thankfully for those awaiting this dark fantasy RTS, it isn’t a significant amount of time. Instead of releasing on February 15, Knights Tale will emerge from the darkened depths on March 29. The developer is focusing on sharpening swords during those two weeks. In a press release, NeocoreGames writes that it is “confident that the extra weeks of development and polish will help to deliver the strongest possible version of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale for its fans.” This isn’t the first time the game got pushed, however. A two-week delay was announced for the game nearly an exact year ago. Certainly, another month-ish isn’t all too bad. I suppose it’s the least fans could hope for. It could be worse. Of course, it’s not like you can’t play it right now.... |
Star Citizen developer is already discussing sequels to Squadron 42 Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:30 PM PST Although life is often unpredictable, some aspects of it will forever remain constant. We all grow up, we all eventually end up in the dirt, and Star Citizen will never come out. This project, which began production all the way back in 2011 and earned over $400 million in crowdfunding, has become more of a meme than an actual video game thanks to its perpetual vaporware status. The same applies to Squadron 42, a single-player game set in Star Citizen’s universe originally meant to come bundled with its companion title before splitting off. That has not stopped developer Cloud Imperium Games from stating, without a hint of irony, that it plans to make multiple sequels to Squadron 42 in the coming years. Seriously? This curious bit of news comes courtesy of an interview with Carl Jones, the chief operating officer at Cloud Imperium Games, that featured in the UK trade magazine MCV Develop. Jones discussed the state of Squadron 42’s development and notes that directo... |
