Vampire Survivors is the newest sleeper hit on Steam, Linux version could come out soon Posted: 27 Jan 2022 04:30 PM PST Those who have checked social media within the past few weeks or so may have heard people discussing a game called Vampire Survivors. When it first came out on Steam last December, Vampire Survivors did not gain much attention from the gaming public. However, the game’s popularity began to surge dramatically this month. It amassed around 1,000 simultaneous players come January 6, and just today, it managed to reach a 24-hour peak of over 35,000 concurrent players. At least partially thanks to the game’s low price of $2.99 USD on Steam, Vampire Survivors has become the next surprise hit on the platform, to the point where the developers plan on porting the game over to both Mac and Linux in the near future. For those wondering what the gameplay of Vampire Survivors entails, it functions as a top-down shooter of sorts. You have to survive as long as you can against procedurally-generated hordes of Gothic-themed monsters. Players have to “get as much gold as possible ...
Atelier Sophie 2 releases in February with improved battle system Posted: 27 Jan 2022 04:00 PM PST The Atelier series includes some of the more confusing and obscure JRPGs I can think of. Every time I see an Atelier game, there’s a new one sitting right next to it. So it only seems right that Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is releasing this month. It’s coming out less than two years after the last iteration. Publisher KOEI TECMO and developer GUST Studios released tons of new information today about some of the game’s new mechanics, including the “improved battle system.” While many Atelier games feature self-contained stories, Atelier Sophie 2 follows characters we’ve seen before. Sophie will set out on an adventure to find her missing friend, while also learning more about the mysterious world she’s in: Erde Wiege. Reportedly, monsters in this game will have appeared in the previous Atelier entries, so fans should easily recognize what’s returning. Additionally, the new battle system in Atelier Sophie 2 wi...
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair returns for free on the Epic Games Store next week Posted: 27 Jan 2022 02:30 PM PST I love a good platformer, so much so, that sometimes, I close my eyes at night and hope I can get a really great one for free. When I opened my eyes this morning, my dreams had come true, as the Epic Games Store will give away Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair for free next week. Okay, I don’t really do all that, but I’m not lying. The smash platforming hit from the Donkey Kong Country team will indeed be free next week. Every week, the Epic Games Store gives away a full game for free to anyone who has its launcher installed, and next week is no different. Those who grew up playing side-scrollers like Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country should take a dive and download the launcher. Side-scrolling platformers are a rarity nowadays, so getting Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair free on the Epic Games Store is a chance for you to relive your childhood a bit. Side-scrolling fun This 2.5D platformer (3D graphics with a 2D perspective) isn’t just your ru...
The Steam Lunar New Year 2022 is live with colorful cartoon tigers Posted: 27 Jan 2022 02:00 PM PST As any Steam user knows, there’s always another sale right around the corner. Well, not even around the corner. We’re already in the corner, as the Steam Lunar New Year 2022 sale is now live. The sale will last from today until February 3. That means we have a whole week to glance at our carts with uncertainty before the sale ends and we have to remove all the things we couldn’t pull the trigger on. Seriously, I don’t need to buy anything else right now, Steam! Let’s all be cool! Oh, hey, 23 items on my wishlist are discounted. What was I saying? As with any other sale, Steam’s Lunar New Year 2022 sale offers a great many games from all over the site. Highlighted deals for today include asymmetric horror game Dead by Daylight for $10 USD, Skyrim: Special Edition for $16 USD, and Apex Legends, which is free… Why is this taking up one of the top three spaces? Your guess is as good as mine. All joking aside, the game has a bunch of its packs 30...
Valorant dev diary confirms Episode 4 Act II will not get a new agent or map Posted: 27 Jan 2022 01:45 PM PST In the latest Valorant dev diary, Executive Producer Anna Donlon takes a look back at the hero-based shooter's last year and reveals some details about the next big update, Episode 4 Act II. It sounds like Riot Games has a lot planned for Valorant over the next year. However, before we get more agents and maps, the developer wants to solidify the foundation of the game. While 2021 was a year of madness for many, it was excellent for Valorant. The tactical shooter went from strength to strength. It released a unique new map in the form of Facture, as well as a few new agents. The latest agent, Neon, has only just dropped in to blow the meta open with her speed. Instead of continuing to ride that content wave and deliver instant gratification, Riot is going to take some time to improve elements that will secure the future of the game. Essentially, it wants to make Valorant more enjoyable to play. That includes balancing agents, tweaking maps, improving the ranked experience, an...
