One of the best Star Wars games is free on Steam, but only for 48 hours

One of the best Star Wars games is free on Steam, but only for 48 hours

There are plenty of fantastic Star Wars games on PC, and now one of the best in recent years is free on Steam. Space sim Star Wars: Squadrons is indeed free-to-play as of now - but you better be quick, because it's only for the next 48 hours.

Star Wars: Squadrons released in 2020 and was immediately lauded for being a fresh and enjoyable update of classic Star Wars sims like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and - erm - X-Wing vs TIE Fighter. Given that it's also one of the only triple-A Star Wars games to be released by EA - and that a sequel probably isn't coming anytime soon - it's good that Squadrons exists.

Now anyone who doesn't own Star Wars: Squadrons - and didn't pick it up as part of an Amazon Prime Gaming deal in October - can now try the latest Star Wars space sim entirely for free on Steam (thanks VG247), although only for the next two days.

Halo Infinite’s store is “not delivering on value, quality, or price”

Halo Infinite’s store is “not delivering on value, quality, or price”

By all measures, the recent release of Halo Infinite last year has been enormously popular, but there have also been a fair few complaints from players about the multiplayer - including about the prices of items in the in-game store. Developer 343 Industries seems to agree, saying that the store is "not delivering on value, quality, or price".

Since the multiplayer launched in November, Halo Infinite's multiplayer has been popular but has had a lot of problems. The Halo team at 343 has promised that a proper fix for the Big Team Battle mode's various issues is coming this week, but Infinite's cosmetics store will also be seeing some improvements.

The team has already begun rolling out changes to the store's prices, but now, in a new blogpost, senior community manager John Junyszek acknowledges that the team was "in recognition that we were not delivering on value, quality, or price" with the store. Changes are coming, and if they don't hit during Season 1 then they should "positively impact Season 2 right off the bat".

Doom meets F.E.A.R. FPS Selaco is getting weaponized pet Roombas

Doom meets F.E.A.R. FPS Selaco is getting weaponized pet Roombas

There are many fantastic FPSs in the works but one of the most promising is indie shooter Selaco, which blends together elements of Doom and F.E.A.R. - and if that's not enough, the team has just revealed Selaco's latest innovation: a weaponized Roomba vacuum cleaner. Yes, you can pet it too.

Selaco is an indie FPS that's been in the works for a while now and it's looking enormously promising, with gameplay inspired by Monolith's 2005 classic F.E.A.R. It's also already one of those titles where you can't believe that it's based on the original Doom engine, despite the retro shooter vibe.

The weapons of Selaco have caught attention previously, especially when developer Altered Bit Studios added the iconic Penetrator Nailgun from F.E.A.R. and a deadly banana - but the game's latest addition is both useful and cute. It's a weaponizable pet Roomba, which could give Portal's companion cube a run for its personification money. Simply add a friendly turret to the mobile VAC-BOT and it'll kill anything it encounters while cleaning up the place.

Scarlet Nexus 2 could be made for a “more mature audience”

Scarlet Nexus 2 could be made for a “more mature audience”

It's been over half a year since the release of Scarlet Nexus - the action RPG from the creators of the Tales Of series about a group of superpowered agents - and the director has opened up about a possible sequel to the anime game, suggesting that Scarlet Nexus 2 would be made with a "more mature audience" in mind.

Scarlet Nexus launched in June 2021 and, while the action and the superpower use against bizarre enemies was all fun, it was a deeply flawed game. One of the biggest problems was the story and characters and how it was difficult to engage with that side of the game, with a real disconnect between the combat and the non-combat areas.

In a new interview with Inverse, game director Kenji Anabuki opened up about "the future for the Scarlet Nexus IP" and a possible sequel - and one thing they want to sort out is that disconnect between the various superpowered adventures and the more mundane story side.

Steam Deck verified playable list passes 100 games, including Nier Replicant

Steam Deck verified playable list passes 100 games, including Nier Replicant

The Steam Deck verified list now includes over a hundred games fully playable, including the popular likes of Nier Replicant, Life is Strange 2, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With just a month to go before the Steam Deck's release date, the list is really expanding - although there are still a few major games that don't work, including Persona 4 Golden.

Earlier this month, Valve started putting compatibility categories for games on Steam to say whether or not they worked with Steam Deck. While Valve is confident that the major of PC games will work with Steam Deck out of the box, it still has a team furiously playing through games to verify them officially.

While the list isn't available officially yet, Reddit user ayyvery42 or Boiling Steam have their own lists that show that Steam Deck now has over a hundred games fully verified or playable - meaning, runs totally fine but may not have touchscreen support in some places - and only a handful unsupported.

Halo TV series trailer release time: Paramount show official reveal drops today

The first full official Halo Paramount series trailer is dropping today, just a month after the release of Halo Infinite, and it's set to debut around the halftime of the AFC Championship game - but when exactly is that? Here's the full Halo TV series trailer release time for the Paramount show's big new reveal.

The AFC Championship game that the trailer will launch with begins at 12:05 PST / 3:05 PM EST / 8:05 PM GMT and the big series reveal is set to drop during the halftime point - therefore, the Halo TV show trailer should have a release time of around 1:15 PM PST / 4:15 PM EST / 9:15 GMT. Halftime is a little difficult to pin down exactly but it will be around this time, give or take a few minutes.

Regardless, for anyone outside the US or who doesn't want to watch the game, the trailer should be available online fairly immediately on either the Paramount Plus YouTube channel or the official Halo TV series Twitter feed.
