Elden Ring has already got the PS1 demake treatment Posted: 25 Feb 2022 04:08 AM PST One of my favourite visual trends online is gaming demakes. Not only is it cool to see what a triple-A game of today would look like if it came out in the '90s, but it's also pretty dang nostalgic. A little-known game called Elden Ring has just been released to a rapturous reception, so it only makes sense that someone has given it the demake treatment. YouTuber Hoolopee has recreated Elden Ring's trailer in the style of a Playstation 1 game. Things start with a low-poly Malenia the Severed attaching her arm before we see a blacksmith working in the dark and a warrior approaching the edge of a cliff. The dramatic tone of the trailer is caught perfectly, which is helped with some voiceover work that's evocative of the original reveal trailer. While we see plenty of fantastic shots throughout the trailer, few are more critical than Pot Lad. The wait for Hidetaka Miyazaki's latest game has been a long one for fans, though the sentient pot showed up in a trailer, and everyone immediately took him into their hearts. Truck Simulator heads to Steam Deck with cross-platform support Posted: 25 Feb 2022 03:46 AM PST With the Steam Deck release date rapidly approaching, we're hearing more and more about what we'll get to play on Valve's handheld when it arrives. Now, the folks at SCS Software have given us an idea of what's in store for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the way of 'Deck support - and the good news is you'll be able to dive in with your pals on other platforms. "In addition to making some tweaks necessary to support this handheld gaming PC, our games will include several special bindings, along with a basic version of touchscreen support (clicking on the screen to select menu buttons)," the devs explain. "Moreover, we'd like to point out that by choosing to play on Steam Deck you will not be left behind when you will want to drive along with your friend in the Convoy mode, as 'cross-platform' gameplay will be supported." Convoy mode was introduced last year, and lets truckers create private online games for up to eight players, with synchronised AI traffic, time, weather, and truck customisation options. Oh, it also features a push-to-talk CB radio option so you can natter with your fellow truckers if the lonesome approach isn't for you. Elden Ring has mixed Steam reviews citing performance issues Posted: 25 Feb 2022 03:35 AM PST FromSoftware's latest RPG has received high review scores across the board, but Elden Ring's performance issues on PC have earned it a mixed verdict on Steam. Most of the game's launch day gripes are themed around frame rate drops and stuttering, something some users suspect is caused by the inclusion of Easy Anti-Cheat. While the best graphics cards should be up to the task, GPUs like the GeForce RTX 3080 are apparently struggling to maintain 60fps in Elden Ring. According to some Steam user reviews, Nvidia's high-end GPUs struggle at 1080p, with stuttering also proving to be an issue. Elden Ring's frame rate is locked at 60fps, so you can only boost fps to match the cap. Over on Reddit, users are also grumbling about FromSoftware's PC port, citing similar performance problems. Again, Easy Anti-Cheat seems to be highlighted as a primary cause, with players reporting that disabling the software can help alleviate the issues. Vampire Survivors might get a new character and weapon next week Posted: 25 Feb 2022 03:07 AM PST Vampire Survivors is in for some superb additions next week. Developer Poncle has shared its plans for patch 0.3.0, though some goodies are still in the works, so they might not make it into the update. The run-based roguelite game could be getting a new character, weapon, and weapon evolution, though the developer is still working on them, so they might not make the patch. Further details aren't available just yet, so sit tight. Poncle reckons that patch 0.3.0 will release on March 1 or 2, so you won't have too long to wait and see regardless. What we do know, though, is that we're getting three new achievements to unlock: a new stage that includes fresh enemies and events, a hyper mode for the stage, and one new game mechanic to keep things fresh. Antonio is also getting an armour and health bonus, Gennaro and Sour Clerici are getting a health boost, and Krochi will be swifter. Alongside some minor optimisations, we're also getting tentative fixes to stop the game freezing on startup after using localisation mods or on character selection after save data corruption. League of Legends patch 12.4 has made its way to the live Rift, bringing a raft of new skins, champion balance changes, and - of course - steely new Champon Renata Glasc. That means it's now time to see what's headed our way with its follow-up update. While the latest round of skins gave Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana some dazzling new Shockblade styles, this fortnight's offerings are fare more whimsical. Let's take a look. The new skins coming with League of Legends patch 12.5 add more champions to the game's Bees! alternate universe, with four new looks on the way. As you'd expect, the names are pun-tastic, with Heimerstinger, Nunu and Beelump, Orbeeanna, and BZZZiggs joining the skin line. Elden Ring system requirements Posted: 25 Feb 2022 01:54 AM PST The next Soulsborne game is finally here, but before you dive into the mind of director Hidetaka Miyazaki once again, you need to know if your rig can handle the Elden Ring system requirements. The bad news is that it might tax lower-end or aging systems by asking for 12GB of RAM. The good news is that it isn't quite as demanding on graphics cards. Elden Ring will support a maximum resolution of native 4K, HDR, and frame rates of up to 60fps. Unfortunately, it appears that FromSoftware has implemented a frame rate cap, as it did previously with its previous game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It's likely that this will be circumvented through mods, if previous games from the developer are anything to go by. While it won't be available at launch, ray tracing support should add another layer of gross incandescence to Elden Ring's world. Currently, there's no indication that AMD FSR or Nvidia DLSS will be available to help boost fps, but we'll update this page if and when that changes. However, this isn't the only type of healing item available - the Flask of Wondrous Physick is a customisable alternative. To get the Flask of Wondrous Physick, you need to beat one of the optional Elden Ring bosses, namely the Groveside Cave's boss: the Beastman of Farum Azula. Once he's dead, you can open a chest containing the flask and two crystal tears that you mix to customise the flask's effects. These effects trigger simultaneously every time you take a sip, and you can swap them at any Site of Grace. Elden Ring reaches 600k Steam players one hour after launch Posted: 24 Feb 2022 04:00 PM PST The Elden Ring release time has arrived, and players are already pouring in by the bucket full. It's already From Software's biggest Steam launch, and one of the biggest games on Valve's platform - ever - beating out some of the most venerable live service games to get there. Elden Ring reached a concurrent PC player count of 616,891 one hour after launch, as SteamDB shows, and that number continues to rise. It reached 149,702 players just 20 minutes after launch, making it the biggest From Software game on Steam in the span of about two Bugs Bunny cartoons. Most of Steam's biggest games - like PUBG, Dota 2, or CS:GO - are either inexpensive or free-to-play. The biggest premium launches on the platform include New World, which reached 913,634 concurrent players on launch weekend, and Cyberpunk 2077, which reached 1,054,388. To date, only five games have crossed the million-player threshold. It should be no great surprise at this point, given how wide-ranging compatibility on the device aims to be, but Elden Ring is officially Steam Deck Verified, meaning Valve expects it to play great on the handheld. And if that wasn't enough, pretty much the entire Souls series is Verified, too. Elden Ring's got full checkmarks across the board for Valve's compatibility metrics. That means "this game's default graphics configuration performs well on Steam Deck", " all functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration", "this game shows Steam Deck controller icons", and "in-game interface text is legible on Steam Deck," as you can see on SteamDB. Terraria gets yet another update before Labor of Love Posted: 25 Feb 2022 04:52 AM PST Terraria has now reached the stage where it's had so many final updates that even the jokes about them are getting exhausting. But hey, I'm not going to complain about further Terraria updates. The 1.4.4 patch, dubbed the Labor of Love update, is still on the way, but before then the developers have another, smaller update, sprucing up the game for Steam Deck compatibility and making some additional changes. "When we sat down to enjoy Terraria on the Steam Deck for the first time," the devs say in the announcement, "we immediately realised that we needed to make a few tweaks to fully take advantage of all that this new system has to offer." To that end, they've built a default control setup for the Deck - which you're free to customise as you like, of course. If you're curious about battery life, the devs say they "typically get between 3.5 and 5.5 hours of playtime between charges - depending on brightness settings as well as the intensity of action in the game". But 1.4.3.3, which is live now, isn't purely about Steam Deck optimisations. Halo Infinite’s mid-season update improves anti-cheat Posted: 24 Feb 2022 11:14 AM PST Halo Infinite's first mid-season update has arrived, with a handful of important updates to some of the game's larger technical issues. There's a fix for the first-person animation issues, a revamp to the audio mix, and - perhaps most notably - improvements to the anti-cheat system. However, if you're looking for more than bug fixes, you might be disappointed by these patch notes. We've got "improved cheat detection and other anti-cheat improvements". Developers tend to be vague about anti-cheat developments for fear that too much detail would give hackers an easier time circumventing those systems, but hopefully you should see fewer cheaters going forward. The update also resolves a long-standing issue with first-person animations, where you would see your arms or gun model animating at a lower frame rate than the game itself. Grenade throws, Needler supercombines, Ravager charges, footsteps, and gunfire have all also been made louder in the audio mix.
