X-Men’s Beast Turning Dark – His Actions In Krakoa Suggest His True Destiny Posted: 29 Mar 2022 03:07 AM PDT One of the most famous X-Men events, The Age of Apocalypse, brought a few new characters into the main Marvel Universe after the story wrapped up. On the heroic side, we had Blink and X-Man. On the bad side, we got two now-classic X-Men villains: Sugar Man and Dark Beast. Sugar Man was an entirely new creation for AoA, but Dark Beast presented a version of Hank McCoy that shocked fans. The Bouncing Beast, the lovable furball, usually jovial and full of light and laughter, turned into a sadistic mad scientist. He took joy in his brutality. Every time we saw his "workshop," it was filled with body horror elements. However, this isn't the only evil version of Beast. And judging by his actions in the Krakoa Age of X-Men, it looks like the real, 616-Universe Beast is turning dark. But how did this happen? The Dark Beast Wheel Started Turning When He Turned Blue (Image: Marvel Comics) Okay, he actually turned grey first. However, the popular X-Men character's path to turning into his Dark Beast counterpart started with his origin story. Beast is one of those rare characters who got an origin story while they were already active. But there's the Beast before he turned blBeastd furry, and the Beast after. The transformation took place in Amazing Adventures #11. Hank McCoy started working for a Roxxon Oil think tank, the Brand Corporation. Here, Hank, despite and because of his genius intellect, creates one of the X-Men's biggest problems in future stories: MGH. The Mutant Growth Hormone. But when he discovers that his new employers are up to some nefarious business, Hank decides to use MGH on himself, growing grey fur and a more animalistic body. However, though his experiment was a success, he didn't realize it would be permanent. Still, this is the first hint we get of the core Marvel Universe Beast turning dark. His first mutantBeastriment? Himself. From here, he'd go on to be the bounding blue beast, Avenger, X-Man, Defender. At the time, maybe his decision was a bit of a fluke, but it was the seed all future writers needed to test the boundaries of the character. X-Men: Age of Apocalypse isn't the Only Alternate Reality Beast Beastng Dark (Image: Marvel Comics) Thanks to the Multiverse, we've seen many versions of Beast. He's been a priest, a magician, a mercenary, a cyborg, and an amphibious creature. However, besides Age of Apocalypse, there are two versions that are worth noting. The first is from an alternative future in Grant Morrison's legendary New X-Men run. In the story "Here Comes Tomorrow," Scott SumBeastquits the X-Men after Jean Grey dies yet again. We then see a dystopian future where Beast – infected by a parasite called Sublime – rules the world. He keeps people in line with his handcrafted mutant "crawlers." These are Nightcrawler clones equipped with Scott's optic blasts, Banshee'sBeastam, Multiple Man's duplications, and several other powers. In a way, this version of Beast is even worse than Dark Beast. Beast is theBeast…or is that a Ram horn? (Image: Marvel Comics) And then there's the Beast of Battle of the Atom, an X-Men event from about a decade ago. But unlike Beast turning dark through his own ambitions, this X-Men story is heartbreak. In this future, Mutants have finally become so respected that America elects their first mutant president – Alison Blaire, AKA Dazzler. But during her victory speech, she and several other mutants are assassinated. Beast, who orchestrated her entire campaign, is distraught. Yet it's not just because he watches the future of mutantkind die. One regularly forgotten Marvel romance is that of Beast and Dazzler. It wasn't just a teammate or politician or friend dying. It was a woman he loved. This turns him to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants of the future. But at the core of each time Beast turns dark, he thinks he's doing the best thing for mutants and his fellow X-Men. Even Dark Beast believes that he's answering to a greater cause. So now, how do we see these compromises in the 616 Beast? Beast's Current Descent Began with House of X and the Decimation of Mutantkind (Image: Marvel Comics) One of the most controversial Marvel events was House of X, about an alternate existence where Magneto ruled. Scarlet Witch discovers that all of the problems in this altered world were her fault, trying to pleasBeast father. She then uttered the now-infamous phrase "No more mutants." As a result, 98% of theBeastd's mutants lost their powers. When the world returns to normal, Beast begins to compromise his morals. The first instance is in X-Men: Endangered Species, where Beast thinks turning to his dark counterpart for help is a good idea. However, he didn't just go to Dark Beast, but several other mad scientists in the universe. The High Evolutionary, Sugar Man, Doctor Doom, and more. He's out to save mutantkind, but he's willing to make deals with devils to do so. A few years later, the X-Men and the Dark Avengers battle it out, but when Norman Osborne takes Beast hostage early in the crossover, Cyclops uses his imprisonment as a part of his planning. Feeling betrayed, he leaves the X-Men – until Wolverine and Cyclops have a falling out, and he joins Wolverine's X-Men. He's still grumpy, but the edges of Dark Best seemed to be retreating. No Good Options (Image: Marvel Comics) Then Avengers Vs X-Men happened. A Phoenix-possessed Scott Summers murders Charles Xavier. Beast, realizing that he's going to die from complications of the original MGH formula, does something drastic: he brings the original X-Men, as teens, into the present. He wants them to see what's become of their future selves. Yet it wasn't just his time with the X-Men that Beast found himself turning to dark compromises. He was also part of the Illuminati. When they discovered that Earths of different realities were colliding with each other, the group's mission was to kill the incursioBeastths, murdering billions at a time to keep their reality safe. So, now that the X-Men have their own nation and society, with an emerging culture and position as a world power, how dark is Beast willing to turn? Beast's Role in X-Force is Driving Him Closer to His Dark Nature (Image: Marvel Comics) When most mutants joined the nation of Krakoa, they felt immense joy and security. All Hank McCoy saw was a fragile nation that needed protecting. To that end, he's made some…choices. For instance, he tried to brainwash an entire country, which backfired terribly at the Hellfire Gala. To intimidate possible Russian traitors, he publicly shamed Colossus and Omega Red. In fact, his actions toward Omega Red in X-Force and Wolverine led to one of the crises in X Lives and Deaths of Wolverine. Beast was nearly responsible for the entire fall of Krakoa because of his despicable actions towards a former villain who might have been an asset to the nation. But what should really make the X-Men worry that Beast is turning evil is his interpretation of what happened in X Lives and Deaths of Wolverine. Wolverine, more than most characters, doesn't like bBeastused. That's been the story for most of his life. If Beast continues down this path, slowly turning into Dark Beast, the X-Men might have to throw one of their founding members into the pit with Sabretooth. Ezra Miller Arrested: Flash Star Meets Police Force Posted: 29 Mar 2022 01:07 AM PDT Unfortunately, if you read a news story about Ezra Miller that’s not about their work, then it’s often nothing good. I mean, sometimes it’s good, as in entertaining. Take the recent video in which they inexplicably threatened a rando Klan chapter. However, other times the controversy that embroils Miller is less fun. That’s the case this week as news breaks that police arrested Ezra Miller Sunday night. As we were all watching the bananas proceedings that was this year’s Academy Awards, Hawaii police arrested the Flash star in a karaoke bar. Yup, checks out. (Note: Miller uses they/them pronouns.) Ezra Miller Arrested As Character Wins Fan-Voted Oscar Poll One of the big stories out of the Oscars Sunday night was the results of the fan-driven polls. In an effort to, I don’t know, be more egalitarian, the Academy opened up its annual award show to popular vote. Specifically, they let fans vote in two special categories. One was the fan favorite category, which recognized films that didn’t necessarily garner nominations. image via ABC The other was the Cheer Moment, wherein fans voted for the scene in any movie that made them, well, stand up and cheer. For my money–a bonus book of Miracle Strip Amusement Park ride tickets–the winner of both should have been Malignant. The winner of the Fan Favorite, though, was Army of the Dead. And taking the Cheer Moment was a scene they called “The Flash Enters the Speed Force.” While it (probably?) meant a lot to the legion of Zach Snyder fans who pushed for the release of his Justice League, many other Oscar viewers were dumbstruck. It quickly became a meme, mostly because it’s such a funny phrase. If you haven’t seen the movie, then it just sounds like nonsense. To much of the audience, it’s like they gave the Cheer Moment to “Kitty Cat Joins Calculator Spirit.” Oh, yeah. That moment. Flash Star Arrested in Hilo Karaoke Bar Anyway, while all this was going on, Ezra Miller was apparently having a big ol’ time in Hawaii. According to the Hawaii Police report, though, that time soured. While at the bar, Miller became so upset that they began hollering and using pay channel language. (Oh, my stars!) The bar’s owner tried to deescalate the situation, but Miller would not be soothed. At one point, for instance, they tried to charge at some guy who was playing darts. Miller also yanked the microphone away from a gal who was only halfway through her tune. (There is no word, though, on what she was crooning.) In fact, according to sources, that seems to be part of the trigger for this little come-apart. According to the police statement, which hilariously refers to Miller as “Vermont Visitor,” the actor “became agitated when people began singing karaoke.” Yes, at a karaoke bar. image via Warner Bros After that, the local fuzz arrested the Flash star, charging them with disorderly conduct (the mic thievery) and harassment (interfering with the darts player). They booked them, then they were released after posting their $500 bail. And that seems to be the end of this chapter. It’s likely, though, that it won’t be the end of bonkers Ezra Miller stories. Matt Smith Joins Marvel Because Of Doctor Who Companion Karen Gillian Posted: 28 Mar 2022 11:27 PM PDT With the Morbius movie set to come out at the end of the week, Marvel fans are eager to get a glimpse of Sony's newest Marvel character that exists, kind of, out of the MCU. The film's antagonist, Matt Smith, said joining the mighty Marvel machine happened in part because of former Doctor Who co-star Karen Gillian. Smith did well as the Doctor, but his next attempt at a franchise in Terminator Genisys did not go as planned. So, it makes sense that the actor, who also did a stint on The Crown as young Prince Phillip, was hesitant. Yet, as Nebula, Karen Gillian has worked with Marvel for seven projects (including Thor: Love and Thunder, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the latter two currently filing in Atlanta). In the movie, Smith plays Milo. He's also suffers from the same "rare blood condition," that Jared Leto's Michael Morbius has. He's also loosely based on Loxias Crown, also known as Hunger, from Marvel Comics, yet the similarities are thin at best. The movie was filmed, actually, before the COVID-19 Pandemic in spring and summer of 2019. However, once the pandemic hit, the movie ended up being delayed seven times. So, not exactly a smooth start as Matt Smith joins Marvel on the Sony side of the house. Still, he's game for plenty more films, it seems. Have you had a nice time?’ and she’s like, ‘Yeah, go for it, do it’. So I did. Good old Kaz. I mean, she’s a seasoned pro, she’s made about 9 of them…. We made it yonks ago, I can’t actually believe it’s coming out to be honest with you. I am excited for people to see it. I hope people enjoy it…. It’s a new Marvel character for them to sink their teeth into, as it were. I’m sure Michael Morbius will be one that will keep returning, so hopefully it opens up a new world which will continue in multiple films beyond this." Matt Smith played the 11th Doctor in Doctor Who, and his fellow Marvel alum Karen Gillian played Amy Pond. She stayed on for a season and a half but did return in Smith's finale for a brief cameo to see him off the TARDIS. Since then the two have gone on to do other, non-genre work, but they've both found their way back. So, thankfully after Doctor Who, Matt Smith joins Marvel for Morbius thanks to Karen Gillian and her positive experience with these stories. Also, it’s nice when the Doctor and a companion remain pals. In the film, it appears that Milo wants the power that Morbius gets for himself. This is similar to Loxias Crown who debuted in Spider-Man, as a Hydra Agent with "dark energy" abilities. Later, he wants to take Morbius' power for himself. In doing press for the film, Smith acknowledged that he wasn't even sure if Milo is Hunger or not. Luckily, we won't have to wait too long to find out for sure. We can see progress in connecting the real world with the virtual world and in a perfect mix. The experience promised by the Metaverse to the virtual reality consumer is a significant step forward. Thus, the hardware-software-users interaction is becoming more palpable, being able to access real-world experiences in a virtual environment. This virtual domain is highly scalable and considered by experts as the next giant leap after significant advances such as the Internet or smartphones. The video gaming industry seems to be the predominant one today. However, it is a market with so many possibilities that it is difficult to predict how far it can go. Indeed, video games are par excellence in the scenarios where the Metaverse philosophy is best understood. The connection of different devices makes the user think that they are inside the game, interacting with avatars and other elements of this virtual reality. The Metaverse uses tools in video games such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), thus providing a very realistic experience to users. The goal was the same for all video games, to make a high score, but the way to play it was way more fun. In the decade of the ’90s, the 3D revolution took place, and the way to play video games was through consoles. This change represented a critical technical leap. The 16-bits generation using new devices already saw a considerable increase in the number of players in the games and then incorporated CD-ROM technology. At the end of that decade, one of the most popular consoles was PlayStation with games such as Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, and Final Fantasy VII. And it was from 2000 when PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo 64 appeared, incorporating greater flexibility and integrating devices that began to lay the foundations of virtual reality. Waddle Dee Town is your resting place in between exploring the incredible and mysterious levels of the game. Here, you can participate in mini games, collect in-game figures, and even get free items. Achieving free items in the game is literally as easy as entering a code! Kirby and the Forgotten Land present codes help ensure you have all the resources you need for items and rewards in the game. If you're going to use them, then you'll need to know the codes. While some come from finishing parts of the game or the demo, we have them here for you. Plus, we'll tell you how to unlock the ability to use present codes. Let's talk about what you'll want to know! These star coins and rare stones can help you power up abilities in-game. I plan on writing a full guide to these abilities and some of the best ones to upgrade in the future. For now, I'd just say keep an eye out for blueprints when you're working your way through the map. These blueprints allow you to upgrade abilities to higher powers. That comes in handy as the later game of Kirby gets a bit trickier. When you use a present code, you'll be asked to collect your reward outside your home. Do that each time before you redeem a new code, and you'll be stocked up and ready to roll. Knowing Nintendo, we'll likely see some new present codes come out in the coming months. Hopefully, you're enjoying Kirby and the Forgotten Land as much as I am. That said, all of this might seem a bit confusing if you've not yet unlocked the ability to use present codes. Present codes come into use at Waddle Dee-liveries. To unlock this building, here's what you'll need to do first. How To Unlock Waddle Dee-liveries Image Credit: Nintendo Waddle Dee-liveries does not open until you rescue 50 Waddle Dees in the game. Once you do, however, you can enter the codes above to receive free items. If you're wondering how long this might take, then here's where I hit the number. I ended up rescuing over 50 Waddle Dees by the time you enter the second section of the map. While capturing every Waddle Dee in World 1 might get you there, I didn't unlock it until World 2. Not too long after arriving in Everbay Coast.  There's a lot to really love about the Waddle Dee rescue bonuses in this game. As I mentioned in my Kirby and the Forgotten Land preview, this isn't the super-difficult journey some fans hoped for in the 3D Kirby game. In fact, it's not all that harder than past games. That said, the many side missions in each level keeps you busy and does take some serious thinking. Not to mention, some of the bosses aren't exactly a walk in the park. Overall, rescuing Waddle Dees and taking on some of the fun minigames in each world are plenty to keep platforming fans busy. We bring you the Oscars 2022 highlights, some of this emblematic award show’s best and most inspiring moments. Besides all the beautiful fashion on the red carpet, the night was filled with significant tributes. Some actors wore a blue ribbon, encouraging the resolution of the Ukraine conflict. There was also a tribute to the movie The Godfather, presented by Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Francis Ford Coppola. In addition, the Academy remembered all the movie stars who have already passed on to a better life. Other memorable elements of the gala were Ariana De Bose’s speech, Zack Snyder winning two awards given by the fans, and the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident. As expected, this year’s event brought everything, and despite some things that could darken it, the first ceremony after the pandemic was filled with laughter and joy. The Best Moments of the Oscars 2022 Ceremony We share with you the most outstanding moments during the Oscars 2022 ceremony: Celebrities Wearing Blue Ribbons to Support Ukraine Something quite epic was the support shown by several artists regarding the war in Ukraine. These were seen walking the red carpet wearing a blue ribbon to support the cessation of violence in Ukraine. The artists who were part of this beautiful moment were Jamie Lee Curtis, Alberto Iglesias, and Youn Yuh-Jung. Moreover, celebrities did not only show their support in Ukraine with ribbons; many actors and actresses declared their wish for the war to stop when the press interviewed them. Dune Sweeping Awards Before the Ceremony Before the televised ceremony began, the movie Dune was already sweeping awards. The Denis Villeneuve film won 4 awards before the Oscar transmission even started. These awards were Best Sound, Best Score, Best Editing, and Best Design, and later during the ceremony, it won two more statues in the Cinematography and Visual Effects categories. This science-fiction production was nominated for nine awards and went home with six. Many are comparing this success to the one obtained by Mad Max: Fury Road just a few years ago. Beyoncé’s “Be Alive” Opening Performance The event’s start was a powerful one. From a tennis court in Compton, Beyoncé performed the song “Be Alive,” the theme song for the movie King Richard. This song was nominated for Best Song, and despite not being the winner of this award, it left the audience in awe. Beyoncé’s performance was presented by the Williams sisters themselves and had the presence of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy. Will Smith’s Shocking Moments Will Smith’s name is going viral for two reasons. First, he slapped Chris Rock in the middle of his monologue because Rock made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. Afterwards, he became the winner of Best Actor for his role in King Richard, and he apologized to the Academy for his behavior during his speech. We still don’t know if the Academy will remove Smith’s Oscar based on this incident, but we’re attentive for updates. Ariana DeBose’s Acceptance Speech Upon winning the award for Best Supporting Actress, Ariana Debose’s speech was quite moving and intense. Debose is the first AfroLatina, openly queer actress ever to win this award. She called for reflection that anyone can fulfil their dreams if they fight for them. She said during her speech, “Now you understand why Anita says she wants to be in America: because, despite the problems, dreams come true.” The Triumph for Troy Kotsur and CODA Troy Kotsur was another astonishing award winner after taking home the academy award for his participation in the film Coda. Troy Kotsur became the first deaf male actor to win an Oscar. In his speech, which an interpreter translated, he emphasized his love for the art of filmmaking. Dune Oscars Win – Six Statues For The Sci-Fi Film But Still Shut Out From Major Awards Posted: 28 Mar 2022 10:57 AM PDT The 94th Academy Awards took place this weekend, and they were extremely uh eventful. However, we can’t let all of the drama distract from the real reason everyone was (ostensibly) there. To celebrate filmmaking and the best movies of the past year. And few movies in 2021 received the kind of buzz and critical acclaim that Dune did. The epic sci-fi movie did win six statues at this year’s Oscars – but was shut out of winning any major awards like so many genre films before it. Let’s take a look at what awards Dune picked up at the Oscars, and which categories they did not win or even receive consideration for. Dune Wins The Most Awards At The Oscars Dune was the most highly awarded film of the evening, winning six Oscars for a variety of technical achievements. The sci-fi epic picked up awards for Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Visual Effects, and Sound. The legendary Hans Zimmer won an award for Best Original Score. Although not in attendance at the live awards ceremony, Zimmer accepted his statue in a bathrobe according to the photos on Twitter. But not so for Dune, who lost out on the Oscars Best Picture win to Coda. In addition, Dune did not receive any acting nominations for the big-name actors that appeared in the film. Why Was Dune Snubbed For The Major Awards? Image via Warner Bros. So why did a film that generated so much buzz and critical acclaim get shut out of the major awards? There are a few reasons this may have happened. First we must acknowledge that Dune itself is technically only half a movie. Despite the 2.5 hour run time, the film by Denis Villeneuve (who did not win an Oscar for directing) is only an adaptation of the first half of the original book. We know that a second film is coming, and maybe even a third. The odds are much higher that we’ll get more Dune films now that it has won so many awards. So perhaps the members of the Academy dismissed it for that reason. But we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about the elephant in the room. And it seems like we have this discussion every year as awards season rolls around. The simple truth is that genre movies don’t often do well at the Oscars. The Academy has disdained genre film for as long as it has existed. That seems to only have gotten worse in recent years, as genre has taken over the box office. The more popular something is, the less it is considered to be high art by the elite. The Academy Is Still Dismissive Of Genre Film Image via Sony Pictures We see this in the way the Academy intentionally ignores movies that have mainstream success. Spiderman: No Way Home was undeniably the biggest movie of last year. But the only nomination it picked up this year was for Visual Effects – an award it lost to Dune. Indeed it often seems like genre films do well in the technical fields, but don’t receive serious attention for acting, directing, or accolades for the overall film. Image via New Line Cinema There have been a few genre films over the years that have broken through to win Best Picture at the Oscars. Even rarer are the ones that pick up some acting awards. However, the films that are successful at this are typically the ones that go against genre conventions to focus more on serious drama. Return of the King famously won Best Picture back in 2004, actually sweeping the entire awards show and taking home eleven statues. It is the only high fantasy movie that has ever achieved this feat at the Oscars. This type of success has not been replicated since. And notably, not one actor from Lord of the Rings ever took home an award. What Does A Genre Actor Have To Do To Win An Award? Image via Warner Bros. It was only a few years ago that Joaquin Phoenix picked up the Best Actor award at the Oscars for his role in Joker. The Academy definitely took him seriously in this genre film, but then again it was an extremely dark and serious take on the role. Of course Heath Ledger also won a posthumous award back in 2009 for his unhinged portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. But how many other actors or actresses have won awards for their genre work? It seems like playing increasingly gritty takes on the clown prince of Gotham is the only way to get an acting award in a genre film. Image via Warner Bros. Pictures. Dune Seemed Like A Serious Enough Genre Film To Win However Dune checked all of the boxes that are typically needed to consider a film to be worthy of a major Oscar win. It might be a science-fiction film, but it was also a grand political epic that was incredibly serious. The big name actors also took on their roles with determination. We had Oscar Isaac proving his movie star versatility once again as the doomed Duke Leto Atreides. Rebecca Ferguson was nuanced perfection as Lady Jessica, balancing her love for her husband and son against her wariness of the Order that trained her. But neither of them got an Oscar nomination for their work. Image via Warner Bros. In other years when the list for Best Movie was not as long, Dune might have had a better chance. It certainly did its best to be a serious work of cinema, in order to break out of the genre mold. But it seems like it didn’t do quite enough to pull of a Best Picture win this year. But then again, there is still a second film on the way. Maybe Dune: Part Two will have better luck at the Oscars in a few years. However, unless the Academy members changes their minds about genre filmmaking we think it is unlikely. And at least Spider-Man: No Way Home made it into the weird ‘Fan Favorite Film’ section, proving once again that popular opinion and awards season do not truly reflect one another. Will Smith Slapped Chris Rock At The 2022 Oscars – See The Uncensored Video Posted: 28 Mar 2022 07:28 AM PDT The 2022 Oscars saw a variety of emotions, including support for Ukraine, the first deaf male actor to win an Oscar, and the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during his monologue. Overall, the ceremony was beautiful and impressive, starting with Beyoncé’s performance of her song “Be Afraid.” However, something that surprised and, for some, overshadowed the event was the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock. The red carpet was filled with renowned actresses and actors. Movie stars like Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, and Timotheé Chalamet served their best looks. Everything was going on with certain normality at the event, with awards, amazement, tears, and emotional speeches until the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock. It started due to Chris Rock’s comment during his monologue, which caused Smith to react, walk on stage, and slap Chris. Rock made a joke regarding Jada Pinkett Smith’s, Will’s wife, bald head during his presentation. Rock compared Jada’s head to Demi Moore’s G.I. Jane look in the 90s movie. This comment caused Will to go on stage and slap Rock. After slapping him, Will Smith shouted from his seat, asking Chris Rock to take “his wife’s name out of his f*** mouth,” as the crowd watched the moment in complete awe. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune disease, which leaves her practically bald. Chris Rock’s joke didn’t land well this time, and the consequence was immediate. Rumor has it that this isn’t the first time Will has asked Chris not to make comments on his wife’s health condition, and that’s why he snapped. Chris, however, decided not to press charges against Will Smith, but some think the Academy will take corrective measures. Will Smith’s Oscar Speech Upon being announced as the award winner for Best Actor, Will Smith gave a heartfelt speech in which he apologized for his behavior. He was in tears, not because of the award but because of his previous reaction. He declared that what he did was wrong, that it was an impulse out of love for his wife, and apologized to the Academy and the public in general. He began his statements as follows: “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world. I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people. And to be a river to my people. And I know to do what we do, you’ve got to be able to take abuse, and you’ve got be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you’ve got to be able to have people disrespecting you and you’ve got to smile and pretend like that’s okay.” He ended his speech with this statement, “I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees […] I hope the Academy invites me back.” Celebrities React to Will Smith’s Slap on Twitter The Academy repudiated Will Smith’s actions, stating that they would never condone violence. They stressed on Twitter that nothing has been decided yet, but that this will not be overlooked. The other nominees and other actors were shocked by Will Smith’s reaction. The reactions are split between those who don’t sympathize much with his action and those who understand it. The entire room was left in uncomfortable silence, turning this gala into one of the most controversial. Update: Will Smith Responds, Apologizes to Chris Rock, the Academy, and his King Richard colleagues. On Instagram Monday, Will Smith released a statment. Via Instagram: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line, and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.  I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.” The discourse following the incident at the Academy has ranged from serious statements about violence, ableism, and toxic masculinity to meme culture, including some saying this image will replace the “Batman slapping Robin” meme. Oscar Isaac’s Inspirations For Moon Knight Are Surprising Posted: 28 Mar 2022 06:39 AM PDT Oscar Isaac's inspirations for the titular role on Moon Knight might surprise many viewers. Speaking about getting ready for the show in a new interview, the actor claims that British comedians were his main inspirations for Moon Knight. He also detailed how each of these comedians affected his performance. The main reason that the confession is surprising is because of the show's tone; instead of being lighthearted, it's set to be darker than most other Marvel Cinematic Universe-related shows. It appears as though it'll be closer to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher rather than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Oscar Isaac's Inspirations for His Role on Moon Knight Are A Surprise Image via Marvel Studios The show will also have more direct ties to the mainstream MCU films; it's set to introduce Kamala Khan, who will appear in the upcoming The Marvels. The story also looks to set up plot points for that film and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That could mean that Oscar Isaac's inspirations could help bridge the gap in tones. Speaking about his inspirations for Moon Knight, the actor highlights that it began by looking for something that he hasn't seen in the films so far. He wanted to concentrate on that, but add his own twist. As he says: "I thought, "What's an energy that I haven't seen in the MCU before? Like, what if someone asked Peter Sellers to be in a Marvel movie? And then I thought of Karl Pilkington. I was watching a lot of An Idiot Abroad, not so much for the accent, but for the comedy of it: like, you often don't know if he knows he's being funny. And there's something a little bit naturally introverted about him, which I really liked a lot." Comedic Inspirations For Moon Knight Oscar Isaac's inspirations went a bit further than that, however. Elaborating on his comments, he spoke about a few other British comedians that served as inspirations for Moon Knight. In his words: "I also listened to Russell Kane, the comedian, because he comes from [Enfield]. And I put in a bit of Russell Brand, even though he's much more loquacious. And then, really, it was about finding the [character]'s emotional place. Like, why he is kind of mumbly and inward. The MCU has become well-known for its comedic nature. While it knows how to be serious, it has multiple moments of levity scattered throughout the long-running franchise. That makes it easy to see why Isaac would choose many of the above for inspiration. What makes it somewhat surprising, however, is that it doesn't seem to match the tone of the show.
