'We thought we were buying 100 desks and 100 chairs and seven kitchens.' What Benjamin Wurm didn't realise when he first supplied Interstuhl with a brief to plan the furnishing of the Volksbank Albstadt's under-construction HQ was just what was at stake. It soon became apparent to the Swabian regional bank's board member – via a series of deep-diving discussions with the go-to German workplace-solutions brand – that a total office concept, based on a series of different, user-need-driven environments shaped by carefully considered furniture systems, would help the bank deliver the transformation of their internal work culture that they were looking for. 'Now we know there are many more things you have to think about,' says Wurm candidly about the process. Watch the video now to find out exactly what he means. © Architonic

Jongerius has been advising the German-Swiss furniture brand Vitra for many years and defines, for example, new, subtle colour palettes for the classics in the manufacturer's range. But the task is not quite as simple as one might first imagine. 'Sometimes it takes me several weeks to find the right colour,' Jongerius openly admits. 'I l…

Making environmental choices in the products we buy or the food we eat is often seen as something we must force ourselves to do, representing the more expensive, more labour-intensive option. But there are benefits beyond wearing a smaller carbon boot. Practised for centuries, if not millennia, biophilic design is simply the understanding that our photosynthesising friends offer more direct physical and mental health <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/923100/bringing-the-outdoors-inside-the-benefits-of-biophilia-in-architecture-and-interior-spaces"target="_blank" rel="nofollow">benefits to humanity, too, and ensuring they have a place in our lives. Here are eight examples of projects that use different types of biophilic design to connect us to the natural world, and maybe improve it in return. Hospitality At its central city location, Sydney's <a h…
