A new adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot has been in the works for quite some time, with studio Warner Bros. finally confirming that the film will be landing in theaters this fall.
The release date itself isn’t actually new, as its release was announced last year, but given the number of changes and updates various projects have earned, it will surely come as a relief to fans that the project hasn’t been postponed.
Additionally, this latest information confirms that the film is still slated for a theatrical release as opposed to a debut on HBO Max. Salem’s Lot currently touts a September 9th release.
Stephen King’s website describes the story, “Author Ben Mears returns to ‘Salem’s Lot to write a book about a house that has haunted him since childhood only to find his isolated hometown infested with vampires. While the vampires claim more victims, Mears convinces a small group of believers to combat the undead.”
The film stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, and Pilou Asbaek. Gary Dauberman both wrote and directed this new adaptation of the novel.

The woke TV streaming channel’s not going ahead with a planned cartoon based on Jeff Smith’s Bone, according to ComicBook:
The trade site’s article requires registration to read in full, but from what I could tell, they do say Netflix’s stock tumbled 30 percent of recent, and that’s got to be saying something. Considering how woke Netflix has been for a number of years now, I think it’s a blessing that what was a well regarded comic won’t be seeing an adaptation from such a channel, because it could fall victim to much of the same political correctness as almost anything on the channel. So this is not a loss, but rather, decidedly good news. With the way things are going in Hollywood now, it’s better for acclaimed comics not to be adapted when such bad networks are in charge of the sponsoring and bankrolling.

| Production Pushed Back for Disney’s ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Posted: 24 Apr 2022 10:25 AM PDT Among the Star Wars projects that Disney+ still has planned is Star Wars: The Acolyte, a show that is being described as “a martial arts-influenced mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
The series is being showrun by Russian Doll and Sleeping With Other People alum Leslye Headland, who was a former assistant to Harvey Weinstein and could be “problematic” for the studio. Many fans were disappointed to learn she had never seen a Star Wars movie before being hired for the job.
It was also announced earlier this year that The Hunger Games‘ Amandla Stenberg is in talks for the lead role.
A new report potentially shines even more light on the series — both when it’s filming, and what its supporting cast could look like, but the premise is still pretty vague, as were previous reports on the show, which we know is expected to have heavy “queer representation“.
According to the report from The Illuminerdi, The Acolyte is now expected to begin production in October of 2022, and wrap by May of 2023. While this is much later than fans had expected the series to start filming, it at least provides an inkling of when other elements of the series could come together.
In terms of the supporting cast, the report claims that The Acolyte is seeking a Caucasian man in his 50s to play “Paul’, who will be a series regular on the show and will seemingly only be part of it for one season. The show is also reportedly looking to cast a young Black girl (and potentially identical twins) to portray 8-10 year-old “Miri”, who is described as a lead guest star

| Archie Comics Introduces Its First ‘Hearing-Impaired’ Character Posted: 24 Apr 2022 07:55 AM PDT
Archie Comics and The Children's Tumor Foundation (CTF) are pleased to announce that the latest issue of ARCHIE JUMBO COMICS DIGEST will introduce the first hearing-impaired member of Archie’s iconic cast of characters. Meet Grace Alondra, who also marks the first time a character living with neurofibromatosis (NF) or schwannomatosis has appeared in the pages of a comic book from a major publisher. Grace will make her debut in an eight-page short called "Sounds Like Music" that will appear in ARCHIE JUMBO COMICS DIGEST #329, available today everywhere comics are sold.
Archie Comics worked with the Children's Tumor Foundation to create this character in order to shine a light on the many individuals living with NF2, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves in the body, and which often leads to hearing loss. The disease affects 1 in 25,000 births of all populations equally. The comic is part of the Foundation's global awareness campaign that launches at the end of April and continues throughout May, which is NF Awareness Month.
In "Sounds like Music," Archie and the gang meet Grace, a young Latina woman who loves music — especially her favorite band, The Archies. Spunky and smart, Grace isn't letting her journey toward hearing loss define her. Instead, she is eager to hear all the great music she can, while she can.
Grace's journey is all too familiar to individuals with this diagnosis, which is most often discovered in the teen to young adult years. "As a long-time music fan, I first learned that I would lose my hearing in college, so I set out to listen to all the music I could so I could keep it deep in my memory," said Matt Hay, who lives with NF2. "I was creating a soundtrack for a life I had not yet lived." Matt was diagnosed in his early college years and eventually lost all hearing due to NF2.
The inclusion of Grace continues Archie's commitment to introducing diverse and differently-abled characters in its various ongoing comics series. Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief Mike Pellerito is enthusiastic about bringing this character into the classic Archie Universe. "Grace is a talented and whip-smart teenager," he said. "The fact that she's experiencing hearing loss is only one part of her story. To me, this is the stuff that really matters, and we're proud to be working with the Children's Tumor Foundation on an important story like this."
"Sounds like Music" was written by veteran comic book writer Alex Simmons whose Archie Comics work has been hailed as both entertaining and educational. Art is by Bill Galvan, Ben Galvan, Glenn Whitmore, and Jack Morelli. "We're incredibly grateful for the support of Archie Comics in our mission to increase knowledge of NF to new audiences, particularly readers of comic books," said Simon Vukelj, Chief Marketing Officer of the Children's Tumor Foundation. "In addition to the health challenges NF patients face in their day-to-day lives, they also find that many people simply have never heard of NF. This partnership with Archie will go a long way to changing that, and will help give voice to all NF patients." The Children's Tumor Foundation has developed and released three previous comics stories independently, with three more currently in progress. "Comics are an ideal medium to create awareness, education, and representation for people facing all kinds of challenges, including neurofibromatosis and other rare disorders," said Vanessa Younger, Communications Director at the Children's Tumor Foundation, who oversees the Foundation's comics program. "The inclusion of a character living with NF2 in this Archie story is the next step in this initiative, and we are actively working on more." CTF's current "NF Comics" titles include "Understanding NF2," "Moxie and Sparx Explain NF1," and "Moxie and Sparx Introduce the Accelerator"; the Foundation's comic books, including Archie's "Sounds Like Music," are available to freely download or read on the CTF website at ctf.org/comics.

| Latest Villain in ‘Young Justice’ a Callback to SyFy’s ‘Krypton’ Prequel Show Posted: 24 Apr 2022 05:25 AM PDT
Potential spoilers ahead for Young Justice: Phantoms, Episode 18, “Beyond the Grip of the Gods!,” now streaming on HBO Max.
Young Justice is known for its rich storytelling and its expansive take on the DC Universe. Fans have been treated to storylines that delve deep into different characters, their backstories and their complicated family relationships. The show’s latest episode did exactly that by bringing into the fold one of Superman’s major antagonists — and by doing so it made a big callback to Syfy’s Superman prequel Krypton.
Young Justice‘s latest episode, “Beyond the Grip of the Gods!”, disclosed the identity of the mysterious individual who was responsible for the bomb that “killed” Superboy. The young man was unveiled as Lor-Zod, who was seemingly working for Darkseid. It was also revealed that Superboy and Phantom Girl have been trapped in the Phantom Zone and are not actually dead, although their fate might be worse than death. This is confirmed by a fellow Phantom Zone prisoner: General Dru-Zod, who is a major enemy of Superman.
Besides being responsible for Superboy’s presumed death, Lor-Zod seems to be the man that Saturn Girl, Phantom Girl and Chameleon Boy traveled back in time for. Lor-Zod is seen using a Time-Sphere to travel and camouflage himself; the fact that he travels with a Time-Sphere and is pursued by the Legion of Superheroes indicates that he might be from the future. More importantly, both Lor-Zod and Dru-Zod appearing in the same episode is almost certainly not a coincidence.
