Elegance is in the details with Occhio's new phantom surfaces | News | Architonic

A few years ago, the Zurich Museum für Gestaltung put the focus on something that actually seems obvious: the surface of design products. But the exhibition 'Make-Up' surprised even die-hard design lovers with new perspectives – because even though we perceive the exterior, we as viewers are not always aware of what the surface texture triggers in us. One of the exhibition pieces was the famous Panton Chair, which looks much classier in the shiny original version from 1967 than in the matt version from the 1990s. Also presented was the can of terrycloth Super Deo Spray, which wrapped itself in bathrobe fabric at the end of the 1970s to arouse pleasant feelings, or a computer mouse that seems to be carved out of wood and humorously irritates the user. Black is the new black. While designers and architects will always seek at particular times to employ certain on-trend colours, dependable, reliable black is itself coming back as a trend. Black is, however, more than that, of course: it is the ultimate timeless classic, a colour indeed with which art history could be said to have begun in the famous cave of Lascaux and which still consistently continues to help shape fashion and design today. And while it is not always so straightforward to effectively transfer the dark depth of this colour to the surface of objects, German handle specialist Karcher Design is a company that can boast of a multi-award-winning surface treatment that has set new standards in terms of colour design. Cosmos Black has been impressing experts since it was first launched at BAU 20…
