More characters are getting kid versions of themselves in Fire Emblem Heroes. On April 7, 2022, the Special Heroes Unlikely Friends banner will appear. It will introduce child versions of Path of Radiance folks to Fire Emblem Heroes. Ike will appear as a duo unit with his little sister Mist. People will also be able to get new versions of Soren, Mia, and Ilyana. The three characters only available as five-star units are Ike with Mist, Soren, and Mia. Ike wields a sword. Mia is also a swordbearer. Soren uses a colorless tome. Meanwhile, Ilyana will be available as both a four and five-star unit. She carries a green tome. All four units are infantry units this time around. Here's a trailer going over all of the Unlikely Friends Path of Radiance characters heading to Fire Emblem Heroes. At the end it confirms that Feh Pass subscribers who pull 40 times on it will get to pick one unit for free. There is also one kid character who won't be a part of the banner. People who take part in the Tempest Trials+ can earn both four and five-star versions of Boyd.
Fire Emblem Heroes is available on Android and iOS devices, and the Path of Radiance kid characters will appear April 7, 2022 through May 6, 2022. At the moment, people can also pull on a Legendary banner with a new Nanna alt. The post Latest Fire Emblem Heroes Kid Characters Come from Path of Radiance appeared first on Siliconera. |
| New ‘Sailing’ Performance Shared Ahead of Chrono Cross Remaster Debut Posted: 05 Apr 2022 07:00 AM PDT
There are two new Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition videos to watch. The first one is a music video. Square Enix shared a new performance of the song "Sailing (Another World)" ahead of the Chrono Cross remaster's debut. There's also a new trailer showing off some notable moments in the game. First, here's a chance to hear the Chrono Cross song "Sailing (Another World)." Composer Yasunori Mitsuda supervised Dreamers' Circus version of the track. The group also performed the new arrangements of other songs, which will be present on the new vinyl soundtrack. In addition to the music video featuring that song, there's a new Chrono Cross remaster trailer too. It features a number of memorable situations in the game. For example, we see encounters with Zoah and Harle. Keep in mind that all of the scenes consist of spoilers if you haven't played the game before.
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 7, 2022. Siliconera's review of the remaster is live. The post New ‘Sailing’ Performance Shared Ahead of Chrono Cross Remaster Debut appeared first on Siliconera. |

| Review: The Chrono Cross Remaster is More Relevant than Ever Posted: 05 Apr 2022 06:01 AM PDT
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition remaster is the sort of game people have been waiting to play. While we're inundated with remasters, this one sets itself apart. I mean, it is one of the best JRPGs of all time to start! Then we have the care with which its updated art and music appears, with Masato Kato back to touch up the character art. All of the bonus features improve players' quality of life. But most importantly, we get Radical Dreamers: Le Tresor Interdit worldwide for the first time. The result? Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a complete package that is culturally and historically important, not to mention a joy to play on the Switch. Serge is a normal young man. He lives in a small fishing village. He has a girlfriend. He's a productive member of the community. However, one day after running an errand, he finds himself pulled through into another world. It's then that we get to learn and see how important the influence of one person can be.
The translation is touched up a bit in some cases, which is appreciated. From what I can tell, this mainly applies to characters' techs. For example, we already saw one of these ahead of the game's launch. Instead of HolyDragSwrd, one white element attack is now Holy Dragon Sword. Another example is Guile's WandaIn is now Wanda In. Yes, I'll admit there was some charm to the measures Square needed to take back in the day. But it feels better seeing the techs as they should be. Also, this doesn't apply to weapons. So you will still see characters like Macha using the Besom Cu29 (copper broom). As for Chrono Cross gameplay, things work as they always did. When you're on your adventure, you'll meet lots of people. Many of them will even join you! This means talking to everyone and exploring is critical. Even if you don't need to go somewhere right away, visiting the spot can mean discovering a secret. For example, your first moments in Arni are a good example. If you visit everyone and look around homes, you can find two character recruitment items. Presenting one of them to a character before you head out to get Komodo scales means Serge won't be alone right away. It is a rewarding system that helps encourage the player to meet everyone and look everywhere. I always felt Chrono Cross is a little more interactive than your typical JRPG as a result.
There's also the ability to cross to the parallel world. That there are two dimensions and multiple possibilities comes up quite often. After a certain point in the story, people can go between the home and another worlds to complete main and side quests. This also comes into play with the Tele-Porter gadget, which allows you to pull anyone you've recruited into your party at save points or on the world map. Likewise, the battle system means you need to plan more than you would in a turn-based RPG. Before you head into fights, you can equip characters with elements that allow them to perform the techs I talked about earlier. As you defeat bosses, you also earn stars that can result in characters learning new techs. In order to use these abilities, you need to essentially chain together combos using weak, normal, and strong attacks. Each type of those has its own chance of hitting. Weakest attacks typically start at around a 90 percent chance, with strong ones sometimes initial having odds in the 70 percent range. As you pull together those attacks, your accuracy increases for all three types. You also build up enough energy to use the once-per-battle techs.
Meanwhile, you also need to keep an eye on the elements used. Every character has an innate element. For example, Kid is a red-type character and takes increased damage from blue techs. There is a constant field effect that can determine the overall strength of an element in that one battle. If you face a lot of foes who use green techs, then the field effect might fill up with three levels of green. That means that allies and enemies' green techs would be stronger and yellow ones would be weaker. Your goals ends up making sure enemies won't overwhelm you with their innate elemental techs, your allies won't suddenly be in a situation where they are weak to attacks being used, and you control the field effect to boost your own techs' effects. All of these elements mean that the Chrono Cross remaster still feels revolutionary. Its concept and story handle the idea of parallel worlds extremely well. It's executed so perfectly that we still don't often see the mechanic regularly. (Or working so well when it does come up.) The character recruiting and side quests also encourages exploration in an incredibly effective way. It makes you want to search for the unexpected, all so you can enjoy the rewards. Not to mention its battle system really goes above and beyond what you expect from turn-based fights. A lot of planning goes into it, due to things like tech limitations and the combo system.
The new character models and art in the remaster don't feel like a betrayal to the original Chrono Cross release. The new models are absolutely gorgeous. Every person, friend or foe, received the same level of care. Though if you do go with the original, those look fine too! The environments and maps also look good regardless. I'm especially a fan of how Chrono Cross looks on the Switch. Everything is incredibly vibrant. Yes, the FMVs don't look as good in comparison, but it's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. The features added in the Chrono Cross remaster are welcome quality-of-life adjustments. I appreciated the ability to turn on the fast-forward function when chasing Komodo Pups or getting through the Hydra Marshes so I could quickly grab some character recruitment items. The auto-battle is also handy. Mainly because this is a game with a lot of characters! While I have certain favorites I prefer to use regularly, there are others I like to ensure get some extra HP and stat points. Pulling in Greco, Kid, Leena, and Neo-Fio, turning on both auto-battle and fast-forward, and running around until they're on par with Serge, Glenn, and Guile? It's a big help. (And yes, I did turn on the battle boost after not using some folks for a while to ensure they'd survive until they got some extra HP.) Sometimes, I'd even do it to get extra elements for the element trader. It's efficient.
As pretty much established so far, Chrono Cross is the kind of game people would consider historically important and the remaster takes that a step further. That's because it also includes Radical Dreamers: Le Tresor Interdit. This is essentially a lost game. It appeared on the Super Famicom Satellaview, which meant it was a Japan-exclusive that never received a physical release. It's important for so many reasons. This is a sound novel, a kind of text-based adventure that emphasizes building an atmosphere through its audio. Localizations of these sorts of games are few and far between. It's an early take on what would come next after Chrono Trigger. That means there are more direct ties. Yet, we also see how certain story elements back then would be resurrected and become Chrono Cross.
Radical Dreamers: Le Tresor Interdit is critical too because of how detailed it is. At a glance, it might seem like a fairly simple visual novel. You make choices. Things happen. You earn an ending. Except it is also tracking different things as you play. Kid's feelings for Serge are one of them. You need to think fast and play smart. It's so advanced for its time, and having it here is a treat. Chrono Cross has always been an essential JRPG, and this The Radical Dreamers Edition remaster makes it feel even more important. The story, the design direction, the way it handles its parallel worlds and characters, its battle system, and its precursor game that shows how it grew? They're all extraordinary. Like Chrono Trigger before it, it is historically important and an example of exemplary game design. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 7, 2022. Koei Tecmo added Amy to the Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation roster. She is a brand-new character made for the long-running free-to-play PC game, joining other debutants like Koharu, Elise, and Nanami. | Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness Releases Fall 2022 Posted: 05 Apr 2022 02:30 AM PDT
Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness has a release window. The single-player RPG adaptation of Made In Abyss arrives in Fall 2022, according to an announcement from publisher Spike Chunsoft. Spike Chunsoft also released a trailer to promote the upcoming release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxxlMXk_yUk The trailer features the game's English dub, but both Japanese and English text and audio options will be available. The anime voice casts also reprise their roles. The characters are rendered in full 3D, and the gameplay is classified as action-RPG. In contrast to the childlike character designs and colorful art style, the footage also shows scenes of somewhat graphic violence, with blood spills and spatters. The content, which Spike Chunsoft said would "stay true" to the original work, earned Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness a CERO rating of "Z" in Japan. The game has also earned an ESRB rating of "M" in the United States. These are roughly equivalent to a PEGI "18" in the UK and EU. The story of Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness adapts the manga, and begins with Riko and Reg's first meeting. This corresponds to the anime series' first episode, and follows the party as they travel to Seeker Camp on the Abyss' second layer. The game does have some original content, though. In an original story supervised by creator Akihito Tsukushi, a nameless Cave Raider begins their own adventure into the Abyss many days after Riko and Reg's departure. Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness releases on PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in Fall 2022. It is available now in Japan. The anime series adaptation is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and Adult Swim. Its next season is scheduled for a July 2022 premiere in Japan. | My Hero Academia Will Collaborate With Tobu Zoo Posted: 05 Apr 2022 02:00 AM PDT
The students of 1-A are going to be zookeepers for a day, as My Hero Academia announced a collaboration event with Tobu Zoo. Tobu Zoo, which is in Saitama Prefecture, is a combination zoo and amusement park. The event will run from May 28 until August 31, 2022. [Thanks, Famitsu!] There is a key visual of the students posing with animals at the zoo. For example, Deku is petting a white tiger while Todoroki is feeding a penguin. This key visual will appear on goods, food, tickets, and mini-games. As for the mini-games, it is still unclear what activities will be available during the event. More information on that will appear closer to the starting date. This is not the first time that anime has appeared at this particular establishment. Tobu Zoo made international headlines when one of its penguins, Grape, fell in love with a cardboard cutout of Hululu from Kemono Friends. In 2018, it also ran a collaboration with Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple. Coincidentally, Bungo Stray Dogs was also produced by anime studio Bones. My Hero Academia will be on its sixth season come Fall 2022. Bones revealed a trailer, as well as a new key visual focusing on Deku and Shigaraki, back in 2021. The sixth season will likely start on the Paranormal Liberation War arc. The My Hero Academia collaboration event at Tobu Zoo will run from May 28 to August 31, 2022. More details, such as whether ticket prices will be different from usual, will appear in the near future. The post My Hero Academia Will Collaborate With Tobu Zoo appeared first on Siliconera. |
| Interview: Localizing Rune Factory 5’s Characters Posted: 04 Apr 2022 12:00 PM PDT
Preparing Rune Factory games for a worldwide audience is quite an undertaking. After all, these are large games with all sorts of events. The mix of life sim and RPG elements means tons of text. To help understand what that meant for Rune Factory 5 and its characters, Siliconera spoke with the Localization Manager John Wheeler and Assistant Localization Manager Lori Snyder. After all, XSEED did note in first localization blog that there were 1.5 million Japanese characters in the game between the script and system text. Jenni Lada: How familiar with the Rune Factory series were you before you started working on the localization Lori Snyder: I'm a big fan of the series—I've been enjoying the Rune Factory games ever since the first was released a little more than 15 years ago! I've played each title to some extent and am pretty familiar with the series lore/stories of each Rune Factory, which was a big help for when we were working on Rune Factory 5! John Wheeler: I played countless hours of Rune Factory and Rune Factory 2, and I worked as the project manager for the new content in Rune Factory 4 Special after joining XSEED Games. I'm familiar with the series, but I can't compete with Lori. She handled the localization of the retrospective art book included in the About how long did the localization process for Rune Factory 5 take? Snyder: We began receiving localization materials, like character information and early text files, around February 2020. Since the game was a massive undertaking to localize with over 1.5 million Japanese characters and over a month's worth of voice recording to accommodate, it took about two years to complete the localization for this title from those early notes to our final release. How closely did you work with the development team in Japan? Snyder: In order to deliver the best Rune Factory localization possible, we worked very closely with the developers, with the localization department at Marvelous in Japan as our liaison. We were often asked for feedback on certain aspects of the game, such as how to implement same-sex marriage and how the game's main story beats would be received by western audiences. In fact, while creating design documents is generally done on the developer side, for same-sex marriage implementation and localization, the XSEED side was asked to help with a prospective design document so that these new features could be included, and the developers were able to use that as a reference for same-sex marriage in the final game. Among the Rune Factory 5 marriage candidates, Fuuka is a bit unusual since English isn't her first Snyder: One challenge for Fuuka was that we wanted to make sure her language didn't alienate her from the player or the rest of the cast. In Japanese, she spoke with very simple "gau gau" sounds, which we felt wouldn't work in the English version. Simple growling noises would be redundant and wouldn't help the player connect with her as well as the other marriage candidates. Adrienne Beck, one of our translators for this title, suggested creating a functional language for Fuuka, and our team helped flesh the language out to a point where it had a massive list of vocabulary and grammar. However, another huge challenge after establishing this language was keeping it consistent, so when localization quality assurance time came around, members of the team had to keep an eye on Fuuka's language as well as the English text so that it remained consistent for all of her dialogue. She has a whole lot to say in her language, so we had an entirely separate text-fix checklist just for her! Was it more difficult to find a "voice" for certain Rune Factory 5 characters over others? Wheeler: As Lori described, were-animal character Fuuka's "language" presented the most time-intensive challenge, but I've been so happy to see how fans have reacted to it thus far. Besides Fuuka, the character we agonized over the most early in the localization process was Captain Livia. She has a unique way of speaking in Japanese that ties into her character's backstory, and we spent a long time discussing how to properly capture her voice in English in a way that would keep the spirit of the original but sound natural. Which Rune Factory 5 character's dialogue was the most difficult to localize and why? Wheeler: I worked on translating the main story, and the character I had the most trouble with was the bandit Oswald. He has an idiosyncratic speech style that somewhat mirrors the performance of Chafurin, the actor who voices him in Japanese, that was very difficult to render in English. (Chafurin's delivery is so iconic that the voice actor SungWon Cho immediately recognized him when listening to reference files for recording Oswald.) Oswald's final dialogue is very entertaining in English, thanks to the efforts of our editors. Rune Factory 5 allows same-sex relationships with marriage candidates. How did this affect the localization process and events for each gender? Wheeler: The development team implemented unique text for anything that needed to be updated in the Japanese, and in general we were able to use gender tags—special localization programming tags that insert a different word such as "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" depending on the player character's gender—to tailor the English even further. One event we discussed a lot while we were planning the same-sex marriage text was a Priscilla romance event where she (spoiler alert!) asks the player to take on the role of a prince in a skit she writes. We were concerned that this reinforcement of traditional roles would feel unnatural, but the scene itself pokes fun at those roles—with Hina telling Julian he should play a princess—and in the end it felt perfectly sweet regardless of if the player had chosen Ares or Alice. It's one of my favorite events in the game. Compared to past localizations you've worked on, how difficult would you consider Rune Factory 5 in comparison? Snyder: While my part in Rune Factory 5 was a bit smaller than other key members of the team, I will say this is the biggest project I've worked on to date, and it presented some of the biggest challenges I've worked on at XSEED Games so far. My role in Rune Factory 5's localization mainly involved the in-game script and voice recording, but the script itself took the summer of 2020 to complete, and voice recording alone took a month and a half! After that, my main goal during LQA (localization quality assurance) was checking through all of the voice clips to make sure they matched the context of the scenes they were used in, and that took quite some time to check and implement as well! There was a lot going on these past two years for Rune Factory 5 alone, but I can at least say I learned a ton from the experience! Rune Factory 5 is available for the Nintendo Switch. Capcom shared another Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak video, and this one features the Marionette Spider. It is a new variety of Endemic Life in the game. This means a Hunter can pick it up while on a mission, then use it against a monster to take advantage of the situation. In this case, you'll use the spider's silk as something of a leash. Here's the full clip. The idea is to use the Marionette Spider to snare a creature in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, then drag it to a part of the environment to hurt it. When the monster runs into a wall, for example, it will then damage it. In turn, that helps with defeating the opponent.
As a reminder, there is a Puppet Spider in the base game. Should someone use that kind of Endemic Life, you could immediately start riding a wyvern. In the meantime, there are some other Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak videos available. However, those don't have to do with new gameplay elements. Rather, they showed off some armor sets folks can create. One pair showed off the Blood Orange Bishaten and Shogun Ceanataur equipment. In another, people could see what Garangolm and Lunagaron armor would look like. Monster Hunter Rise is available for the Nintendo Switch and PC, and the Sunbreak expansion will arrive on June 30, 2022. | Fire Emblem Heroes Music Video Stars Ash and Veronica Posted: 04 Apr 2022 10:00 AM PDT
There's a new Fire Emblem Heroes music video designed to promote the game, and it features Ash and Veronica with the summoner. In it, the three "perform" a remixed version of a track from the title. "Lonely Puppeteer" is a major theme in Book 6 of the story, with both heroines featuring promptly in the latest chapters. Here is the Fire Emblem Heroes music video. Given the season, this is a "Lonely Puppeteer (Spring Remix)" take on the tune. Ash plays the guitar during it. Veronica is on the violin. The Summoner is more of a background character here, as they only play the tambourine while the other two characters perform. As for the song, people might remember hearing that recently. "Lonely Puppeteer" is the music that appears in the background of the Fire Emblem Heroes Book 6 opening movie. You can watch that below and compare the two. Keep in mind that it does show how the latest installment in Fire Emblem Heroes begins, with the Summoner, Ash, Veronica and Elm in the midst of a fight. Fire Emblem Heroes is available on Android and Apple iOS devices. The most recent April 2022 banner added a Legendary version of Nanna.
