| Blanc, a co-op game starring a fawn and a wolf cub, will arrive in 2023 Posted: 28 Jun 2022 01:00 PM PDT  Today’s Nintendo Direct came with plenty of interesting announcements for PC gamers to look forward to. Some of these announcements, such as the Sonic Frontiers news, came as no surprise. But others, like the reveal of the new Pac-Man World remake, shook things up in a pleasant way. One other surprise came in the form of Blanc, a co-op adventure game developed by Casus Ludi. This one will definitely appeal to players looking for an emotional, minimalist experience. Those interested in trying out Blanc can do so once it arrives on Steam and the Epic Games Store in February 2023. Blanc’s art style immediately sticks out upon first seeing the trailer. Although the game depicts its environments and characters using 3D models, the aesthetic utilizes hand-drawn textures and design elements that make everything pop. The original game, a LucasArts classic, released way back in 1990. Since then, new iterations seem to come in waves, with many years stretching between. It’s been more than a decade since the last game, but finally, fans will be able to play the next adventure of Guybrush Threepwood soon. Return to Monkey Island boasts a new art style, which you can see today in its first-ever gameplay trailer. Return to Monkey Island is the sixth game in the series, and ol’ Guybrush has yet to figure out the secret of the titular island. However, the trailer suggests that he’s edging closer to the mystery. The gameplay in Return to Monkey Island looks about the same as ever. Like its predecessors, Return is a graphic point-and-click adventure game, bookended by hilarious cutscenes and 2D swashbuckling. | Disgaea 6 Complete review — Improved, but far from perfected Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:00 PM PDT  Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny launched on Nintendo Switch in June 2021. At that time, it was difficult to have a real conversation about the quality of the game. It was so heavily plagued by performance issues that discussing it wasn’t worth it. Be it the hardware’s limitations or just lazy porting, the choppy framerate ruined the gameplay. A year later, and Nippon Ichi has ported Defiance of Destiny across to PC as Disgaea 6 Complete. The strategy JRPG’s transition to PC comes with some obvious benefits. For one, the numerous performance issues of the Switch port are all gone. You can play with the visuals cranked up at a high resolution without any notable frame drops. It’s a huge improvement over the Switch’s options of 60 fps but blurry, or sharper visuals with the smoothness of a slideshow presentation. | Pac-Man World Re-Pac is a remake of a ’90s PlayStation classic Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:30 AM PDT  Fans of Pac-Man were treated to the announcement of a new game earlier today when Pac-Man World Re-Pac was revealed in Nintendo’s Direct Mini Partner Showcase. The trailer showcases the game’s unique take on Pac-Man, as well as a ton of graphical upgrades. If you’ve wanted a fun platformer featuring gaming’s favorite spherical character, you’re in luck. Pac-Man World Re-Pac is a remake of a beloved classic platformer from the ’90s. Pac-Man World was originally a PlayStation title from 1999. Back then it was easy to consider it a riff on Nintendo’s Super Mario 64. But these days, it’s rarer to see a 3D platformer like this. | Sega offers a glimpse at Sonic Frontiers Cyber Space levels, which call back to older games Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:00 AM PDT  The Sonic Frontiers marketing train keeps chugging along, today revealing the Cyber Space levels for the first time. During the Nintendo Direct this morning, Sega offered a small tease on what’s to expect. In short, Cyber Space levels call back to older Sonic games. Sonic Frontiers‘ Cyber Space levels are more your traditional Sonic fare. They’re shorter, linear Zones in which you race to the end all the while destroying familiar enemy bots. The short footage shows Sonic speeding down a broken freeway full of platforming sections, balloons, and bumpers. It was followed by an area reminiscent of Green Hill Zone, with the trademark checkered soil and a massive loop de loop. Sonic fans should find plenty to like, especially if they haven’t quite been convinced by the “Open Zone” overworld so far.
