The Content Deficit Solution for Africa’s Tertiary Education Posted: 31 May 2022 08:00 AM PDT Learning content is scarce in Africa. This has led to developing countries suffering the most from the poor quality of the education received by the majority. The quality of education is increasingly understood to be a more powerful driver for economic growth and it is solutions such as the one proffered by Nigerian Edtech Qataloog that will change the face of education. “According to Forbes, over 30 million books and journals are needed annually to bridge the supply gap in African universities,”says CEO Martins Ekpo.”It is so bad that12 students are sharing one book.” Qataloog is a distribution engine for learning content and the company’s goal is to provide curriculum-curated learning content for students at cost effective budget in a convenient and fast manner. With the rise of the cost for text books, pricing is an important aspect and to cut costs, Qataloog offers all their books on one monthly subscription. “Our platform aggregates curriculum-based content and students access all the books without having to pay exorbitant prices for each book, cutting the student’s book budget by 85%.” says Ekpo. For quality control purposes, only content from verified content providers is available on the Qataloog platform. Schools can also host their content for free and earn money passively. The startup has also taken measures to ensure that content is protected. They have implemented Digital Rights Management which is security that protects content from duplication, copying, pasting and other copyright infringement methods.
