Kurt Russell & Son Wyatt Join Cast of Legendary’s Godzilla Series

Posted: 23 Jul 2022 05:25 AM PDT

Apple TV+ and Legendary Television's Godzilla series is becoming a (Russell) family affair.

THR reports that Kurt and Wyatt Russell have been cast in the series, which is set in the world of Legendary's Monsterverse franchise. Details on their roles are being kept quiet at the moment.

The father and son join a cast that also includes Pachinko star Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

The untitled series is set in the aftermath of the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that decimated San Francisco (as depicted in 2014's Godzilla, which launched the film franchise). It will follow a family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

Chris Black (Outcast, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) co-created the series, with Black serving as showrunner. Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is set to direct the first two episodes. All three will executive produce along with Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, as well as Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd., which owns Godzilla and other monster characters and has licensed them to Legendary.

Shatner Says Roddenberry Would be “Turning In His Grave’ Over New Trek

THR was on hand when Star Trek’s first (and best) captain, William Shatner closed out the first night of San Diego Comic-Con in style and reported that the 91-year old actor spoke with lots of salty humor while taking  look back at his storied career. During an hourlong chat with emcee Kevin Smith, the 91-year-old actor talked about aging, space travel (both real and fictional) and his place in the pop culture consciousness.

When asked to address the fans of that other major sci-fi franchise, Shatner quipped, "fuck Star Wars…. But not Mark Hamill."

"We love Mark Hamill," Smith agreed.

When asked by a fan if there were any new Star Trek series he thought rivaled his own, Shatner replied, "none of them. I got to know [creator] Gene Roddenberry in three years fairly well," said Shatner, "he'd be turning in his grave at some of this stuff."

At another point, he gave a fan a hard time for wearing a mask, because the actor could not hear the man's question. (Mask-wearing is strictly enforced this year at Comic-Con, the first since the coronavirus shuttered the convention for three years.) "Not only did I not understand what he's talking about, but I don't understand who he's talking to" said Shatner, after several attempts at asking the fan to take it off.

Az of Hawt Toys weighed in on this report, and he feels pretty much the same way I do.

Hulu’s Predator Sequel ‘Prey’ Getting High Praise at SDCC Premiere

The early reactions to Hulu’s upcoming Predator sequel ‘Prey’ are very positive. The film had its world premiere at the San Diego Comic Con and reports are starting to circulate on social media, as well as over on AVPGalaxy.net which is the source for this news. Of course, these are dedicated fans of the property, so there are surely some biases, but these reactions could be very good news for fans of the Predator franchise.

Take a look at the following:

20th Century Studios and Hulu also revealed a new movie poster for the film:

The director Dan Trachtenberg was also thrilled with the audience’s response:

Powerpuff Girls Creator Announces Revival of the Original Animated Toon

Posted: 22 Jul 2022 10:55 AM PDT

Craig McCracken, Emmy-winning creator of The Powerpuff Girls, has teamed with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe to bring new animated versions of his classic series back to the small screen. McCracken, who first began his career at Hanna-Barbera Cartoons 30 years ago, is developing animated reboots of both series at the studio.

The Powerpuff Girls
reboot revisits and expands upon the world of the original series as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup face off against a gallery of villains comprised of familiar foes and new threats. The original series debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998, earned two Emmy Awards and numerous animation honors throughout its 78-episode run. The Powerpuff Girls centers on three sugar-coated superheroes — Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup — whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime, winning at hopscotch, and saving the world before bedtime.

"The Hanna-Barbera homecoming of Craig was an opportunity we could not pass up," said Sam Register, President of Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. "Along with his unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he's bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio."

A live-action reboot based on the original Powerpuff Girls Cartoon Network series remains in development at the CW. The network announced last year that the terrible pilot was being re-worked and re-piloted off cycle. Talent deals for cast have lapsed but the project, from Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions, stunningly remains alive at the network.

Hopefully neither project will turn out “woke,” but I’m not very hopeful regarding the live action show.

NASA Releases Comic Honoring Unsung Hero of Apollo 13 Mission

Posted: 22 Jul 2022 06:15 AM PDT

The Laredo Morning Times talks about a comic biography NASA’s prepared that honors the memory of Arturo Campos, a prominent member of the Apollo 13 mission:

Laredo’s legend from the Apollo 13 mission is to be honored posthumously by sending a “moonikin” in his honor to the moon at a later date. But before that happens, Arturo Campos has already been immortalized in a different way.

Campos has been honored by NASA as part of a new comic book. He is the main protagonist of “The Adventures of Commander Moonikin Campos and Friends,” which also introduces two of the other moonikins to fly aboard with Campos' moonikin including Helga and Zohar.

It’s certainly a clever idea, and will hopefully do justice for the guy’s memory.
