Hololive English Myth Nendoroids and Figma Figures Announced Posted: 01 Jul 2022 12:30 PM PDT Good Smile Company's Anime Expo 2022 announcements also involved Hololive English Myth reveals of new Nendoroids, figmas, and Pop Up Parade figures. In some cases, only concept art appeared. However, both the Gura Gawr and Calliope Mori Pop Up Parades showed up as unpainted prototypes. First, here's the reveal that Amelia Watson, Calliope, Ina'nis Ninomae, and Kiara Takanashi Hololive English Nendoroids are in the works. No precise concept art appeared to show them in their upcoming chibi forms.
Next, here's the reveal that Amelia, Calliope, Gura, Ina'nis, and Kiara will all get their own figmas.
Finally, here are the unpainted prototypes for the Gura Gawr and Calliope Mori Pop Up Parade Hololive English Myth figures.
So far, only Gura's gotten a Nendoroid. The first round of pre-orders for it opened in July 2021. Those sold out. That led to a second round. That figure is expected to appear around September 2022 outside Japan. The post Hololive English Myth Nendoroids and Figma Figures Announced appeared first on Siliconera. |
Review: Yurukill: The Calumniation Games Augments Storytelling With Shooting Posted: 01 Jul 2022 12:00 PM PDT When is a murder mystery game not a murder mystery game? When it's a combination murder mystery/shoot 'em up! Just as the "Yurukill" in the title Yurukill: The Calumniation Games is a portmanteau of the Japanese "Yurusu" (to pardon or forgive) and the English "Kill," the game itself is a combo of two seemingly incompatible genres. It is a puzzle-solving adventure and a flashy scrolling shooter. The result works far better than one might think at first. Yurukill kicks things off in an unknown prison. The first character and protagonist, Sengoku Shunju, is a mass murderer. Convicted of bombing an apartment building and killing 21 people, he's been removed from his cell and carted off to "Yurukill Land," a freakish amusement park. There, he and five other "Prisoners," all convicted of various crimes but continuing to proclaim their innocence, must survive the "Yurukill Games." The games are a series of challenges posed by Binko, Yurukill's eccentric, fox mask-wearing game show host. But there's more. Each Prisoner is paired up with an "Executioner," an individual with some connection to the Prisoner's crime. In Sengoku's case, his Executioner is Rina Azami, the only survivor of the bombing Sengoku allegedly committed. Each pair's goal in Yurukill's death game is set early on. Win, and Prisoners will go free with enough evidence to clear their names. Executioners will have their wish granted, which could mean, for example, exacting revenge on the Prisoner. It's a wild setup that's perfectly set to accommodate roller-coaster plot twists, and developer Izanagi Games made sure the game's aesthetic reflects that unhinged energy. Yurukill's visuals are top-notch, even among other famous adventure and visual novel-type games. The character designs come from Another manga artist Hiro Kiyohara and are beautifully rendered, if a bit static. When speaking, the character cutouts are surrounded by a lit border that animates and changes to accentuate the character's mood and lines. The borders even allow character-specific styling, such as the red Torii gates that surround Binko whenever she's on screen. It's a great touch that accentuates Yurukill's lavish sensibility, making it a joy to look at. Yurukill is also a joy to hear, thanks to excellent voice work by its cast. The game features well-known actors like Saori Hayami, Ayane Sakura, Takuya Eguchi, and Tomozaku Sugita. Yu Kobayashi in the role of Binko is particularly entertaining, thanks to Kobayashi's ability to instantly switch from "femme fatale" to "far off the deep end". The performances are supported by the writing. Based on a story by Kakegurui creator Homura Kawamoto and Build Divide creator Hikaru Muno, Yurukill: The Calumniation Games leans hard into the excess and over-the-top energy of the game's amusement park setting. The dozen or so hours it takes to clear the game pass quickly, as the chapters are efficiently constructed and help lay out the stakes without much fuss or fumble. The story loses some steam in the latter half, though. Some cases rely on leaps of reasoning that are frankly untenable to anyone that's not actively a cartoon character. Though vibes are generally more important than airtight logic in games like this, a few of the reaches really stretch credibility. You play each pairing in turn, as they brave one of Yurukill Land's bespoke attractions. Each attraction is a multi-stage, escape room-style puzzle area, filled with dialog sequences, clues, and some puzzle-solving. The puzzles range from basic arithmetic and pattern recognition challenges to simplistic, hidden-object pixel hunts. The latter puzzles are where Yurukill's interface seems a bit inadequate, as you're made to maneuver a slow cursor around the screen to interact with hotspots. It feels like a UI better suited to touch screens or mouse-driven play rather than gamepads. Then again, you might want a gamepad for the other half of Yurukill's gameplay. As mentioned, it's also a shoot-em-up, with the shooting portions of the game developed by G.Rev, a veteran shmup-maker with credits on series like Darius, Ikaruga, and Senko no Ronde. Following each adventure portion, Prisoners and Executioners alike are tossed into a virtual reality arcade to do battle in the Executioner's mind palace. Prisoners need to fly their Yurukill Fighters through the Executioner's mental defenses, making their case by shooting clues and navigating to different clues discovered in the adventure sequences. It works surprisingly well, because the shooting is genuinely fun and the character interactions continue during these portions. Each playable character also has a unique gimmick for their ship, such as extra guns that shoot sideways or orbiting laser drones. Though the gameplay can't really be said to be fully integrated with the narrative, it's not so distracting that it takes away rom the storytelling. Indeed, it can be a fun change of pace, cleansing the palate before the next round of insane plot twists. And when the story's over, players who liked the shooting can go back and play in Score Attack mode, choosing any playable character for any stage (they're locked in during the main story). I'm not sure whether to think of Yurukill as a decent shmup with a good adventure game attached, or a good adventure game with a decent shmup minigame inserted into it. Perhaps it doesn't matter, as the two disparate flavors taste great together all the same. Yurukill: The Calumniation Games releases for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on July 5, 2022 in North America and on July 8, 2022 for Europe and on PC. FFXIV Island Sanctuary Detailed Ahead of 6.2 Posted: 01 Jul 2022 10:00 AM PDT The Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live LXXI meant new details about upcoming features. The FFXIV Island Sanctuary will arrive in late August 2022 with 6.2. Once it arrives, people will need to build their own place on an island and engage in different kinds of casual gameplay alone. It essentially seems like a sort of farming life sum space. The first part of the overview established this is purely a single-player affair. Someone who comes there will be able to have their own space. People can build facilities, grow crops, tend animals, and get materials for crafting. All of the items you get there will be only available on the island. They'll also be able to be used for tools, which can make gathering easier. All items are stored in their own inventory. To get island-specific currency, you can craft handicrafts and export ones most in-demand. You can also let your Wind-Up Minions roam around the space. While the FFXIV Island Sanctuary will be a single-player space, other people can stop by. Players can invite friends and Free Company members to their island. They can also go to other people's islands to see what their buildings and Wind-Up Minions look like. Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Island Sanctuary and Variant Dungeons will appear in FFXIV patch 6.2 in late August 2022. The post FFXIV Island Sanctuary Detailed Ahead of 6.2 appeared first on Siliconera. |
More FFXIV Heavensward Revamps Coming in Patch 6.2 Posted: 01 Jul 2022 09:30 AM PDT Though Patch 6.2 of Final Fantasy XIV is bringing a fair amount of brand-new activities for its players, the ongoing drive to revamp existing content continues. The July 1, 2022 Letter from the Producer's Live broadcast teased that a number of duties related to the Main Scenario Quest in FFXIV: Heavensward (Patch 3.0) will see improvements. The goal of the FFXIV Heavensward improvements is to make the game experience better for players that want to enjoy Final Fantasy XIV as more of a single-player game. In earlier Live Letters, Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida noted that many players raised on the single-player Final Fantasy games shy away from trying FFXIV due to its multiplayer nature. The Main Scenario Quest improvements are targeted at making the main story more welcoming to players intimidated by the prospect of playing with others. Earlier patches revamped content from the A Realm Reborn era to incorporate Duty Support, a way for solo players to take NPC party members into certain dungeons that are part of the Main Scenario Quest. These include the famous Praetorium. Now the Duty Support system is extending to story-important FFXIV Heavensward activities as well. The list of dungeons with Duty Support compatibility is as follows:
Where appropriate, the Duty Support system will allow named characters like Estinien, Alphinaud, and Ysayle, to participate as AI-controlled party members. The Steps of Faith Trial will be reworked as a solo quest as well. The Thornmarch Trial, a FFXIV A Realm Reborn duty wherein players took on the Great King Moggle Mog XII, has also received a revamp. Because the Cape Westwind Duty was changed from an 8-person trial to a solo battle, Thornmarch became the first 8-player duty new players experience. The problem with that is that it's a fairly complex trial, which the team worried would be too difficult as players' first experience in 8-player content. The Thornmarch Trial is well-known, because players need to defeat King Moggle Mog XII's guards in a certain order before facing him. This can require a level of coordination that newer players have yet to develop. The team wasn't specific as to what exactly will change about Thornmarch. Final Fantasy XIV is available on PS4, PS5, and PC. Patch 6.2 and the FFXIV Heavensward content revamps will arrive in August 2022. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Foo Fighters, Yukako Confirmed Posted: 01 Jul 2022 09:00 AM PDT Rather than focusing on one character, the latest JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R video reveals three new ones. This rerelease of the game will include a number of folks not in the original game. Now, we know Yukako Yamagishi, Foo Fighters (FF), and another Jotaro Kujo will be present in this JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game. All three appear at the end of the newest trailer for the game. At the 1:28 mark, an image with the new, hidden characters shatters in three spots. That's when the new folks show up. Yukako Yamagishi comes from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Her Stand is Love Deluxe. She's also known for her obsession over Koichi Hirose. Love Deluxe allows Yukako to attack enemies with her hair. This new version of Jotaro Kujo also appeared in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Once again, he appears with his Stand Star Platinum. Foo Fighters, also referred to as FF in the localizations, is one of Jolyne Cujoh's allies in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. Their situation is unique, though you could also consider them a Stand user. Here's the list of other characters who appeared in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R trailers so far.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R will appear on September 2, 2022. It will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Reno and Rude are on the FFVII Remake July 2022 Calendar Posted: 01 Jul 2022 08:30 AM PDT The July 2022 FFVII Remake calendar is here, and people will be looking at Reno and Rude all month. The two members of the Turks star in all of Square Enix's images. These are available for both PCs and mobile devices. Here are the July 2022 FFVII Remake images. They're also a bit of a spoiler. The picture comes from a late-game encounter with Reno and Rude. Reno and Rude mark the first FFVII Remake calendar to showcase villains. The ones that appeared previously in 2022 all starred heroes. Cloud, Barret, Aerith, and Tifa showed up first. The May 2022 one featured Red XIII. In June 2022, people got to look at Yuffie for a month. It is incredibly common for companies to release monthly calendars with characters on them. For example, HoYoVerse does this with both Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. Digimon Survive Affinity and Conversation Gameplay Shown Off Posted: 01 Jul 2022 08:00 AM PDT There's a new Digimon Survive gameplay trailer, and it shows how the affinity and conversation elements in the game work. This is essentially a visual novel and tactical game rolled into one. However, the choices you make can also affect how battles go. The Digimon Survive gameplay trailer begins by showing off conversation choices and how those can alter affinity or karma. In one segment, Takuma encounters a Fangmon. He's wondering if they are going to die. He has three options to choose from there. He can stand up, shout, or offer encouragement. The segment shows him choosing to stand up, which influences "moral." In another section, Takuma is talking with Aoi. The two are working out what route to take. By checking with her, the affinity between the two of them goes up to improve their relationship. In another segment, it shows how conversations in battle can affect the situation in Digimon Survive. If you talk with an ally, it can do things like increase movement and boost stats. It also offers a peek at an Etemon enemy conversation. Takuma has four possible responses. Choosing "Yes, pretty please!" allows him to make Etemon his friend or get items from the character. Here's the full Digimon Survive gameplay trailer. Digimon Survive will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on July 29, 2022. Final Fantasy XIV Variant Dungeons Detailed Posted: 01 Jul 2022 07:30 AM PDT The latest Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live broadcast introduced an entirely new type of dungeon content, which will be introduced following August 2022's Patch 6.2 update. Called Variant Dungeons, the new FFXIV activities will offer a new approach to difficulty and choice. Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida detailed the concept behind FFXIV Variant Dungeons on the stream. They were previously introduced in the post-Endwalker content roadmap as "Criterion Dungeons". Variant Dungeons are variable-difficulty FFXIV dungeons designed for solo play or in parties of up to four. They're meant for casual play, and have no role restrictions. This means you can bring four tanks, four DPS, four healers, or any combination of jobs to the dungeon. They'll even allow mid-dungeon changes of job. Enemy strength in a Variant Dungeon will be based on party size. Variant Dungeons also have multiple pathways of progression, with branches based on player actions. The first FFXIV Variant Dungeon is called The Sil'dihn Subterrane. Players will explore it with "a certain somebody" and will experience a different story based on their choices. They'll be able to replay the dungeon to see different outcomes and paths. The team didn't just throw away the previous Criterion Dungeon name, though. That's now the name of the hardcore take on FFXIV Variant Dungeons. Formally called Another Path - Criterion Dungeons, Criterion Dungeons are designed for max-level four-player parties. They're require the traditional role mix of one tank, one healer, and two DPS jobs, and have a predetermined route and enemy makeup. They're also different from a standard dungeon, in that they don't allow normal methods to revive a KO'd player. Instead, every player has a limited pool of revivals to use on their fallen buddies. Enemies also don't respawn if the party wipes out. The first Criterion Dungeon will be called Another Sil'dihn Subterrane. It'll have its own Savage difficulty tier. On Savage, Criterion Dungeons forbid all forms of revival. They also respawn all enemies on a wipe, and enemies get stronger if players can't defeat them within a certain time limit. It seems designed to give 4-player parties a taste of the difficulty usually reserved for 8-player Trials and Raids. Final Fantasy XIV is available on PS4, PS5, and PC. FFXIV Variant Dungeons arrive as part of the Patch 6.2, which launches in late August 2022. The post Final Fantasy XIV Variant Dungeons Detailed appeared first on Siliconera. |
