Small, independent cafe bar based just up the road from Sheffield train station, serving a great choice of freshly prepared food (including vegetarian and vegan options), coffee, beers, wines & cocktails. I've also heard the bottomless brunch here is good...

I recently visited this city centre cafe with a few girls from my food bloggers group for a Saturday lunch, and we all really enjoyed the food. The cafe is quite small but there is outdoor seating if the weather is right and this proved to be popular on a Saturday afternoon. Open until 4pm on Saturdays we managed to get the only available table at 2pm, walk in only (unless its bottomless brunch and then you need to pre-book).

The menu at Green Howst has some great, varied breakfast/brunch/lunch options including traditional breakfasts, breakfast sandwiches, loaded bagels, eggs on toast, skillet pans, toasties and salads, with a good amount of veggie options also. Their drinks menu is also vast covering coffees, chocolates, teas, milkshakes, smoothies, cocktails etc. So you are spoilt for choice!

I found that there was a fair wait to be served here even for our drinks order, but once everything was ordered the waiting time seemed the usual. All in all though I don't think we got to eat until 50 minutes after arriving...so this could be something worth thinking about. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented and well cooked, and we all enjoyed everything that we had.

I enjoyed; Deluxe Iced Mocha; espresso, chocolate ice cream, milk - this wasn't strong in terms of coffee but was a great sweet treat. Howst Club Ciabatta Toastie; smoked bacon, chicken breast, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese & mayo - this was a doorstep of a toastie! Very filling, quality ingredients and delicious. Only comment I would have is that I would have asked for the bacon to be more crisp if 'd have thought beforehand.

My friends also enjoyed; 2 poached eggs on toast-Smashed (v); Avocado topped with chilli, pumpkin, black sesame seed mix & hollandaise. Ole Skillet Pan; Chorizo, beans, peppers, double cream, mozzarella & fried egg with a side of soda bread.

In summary, the food and amount of variety on the menu at Green Howst Cafe is really good, just a shame about the long wait! To check out more about them, visit their website here.

I hope that my review has inspired you to give this cafe a try. If you have anywhere you recommend I should eat at, please leave a comment below. If you are a restaurant/food vendor and would like to collaborate with me in any way, please just email me at jensfoodblog@gmail.com!

Happy munching!
