A lovely little, fine-dining Italian Restaurant based down a cobbled backstreet in Sheffield City Centre, close to the Crucible and Lyceum Theatres. VeruGusto is an authentic, award-winning, family-run Italian café-restaurant serving delicious pasta, meat and fish dishes. Perfect for a special occasion and Italian food lovers. A bit more of a "posh meal" out.

Ben and I visited this lovely formal yet very welcoming restaurant to celebrate his graduation in a finance diploma (and get us ready for our holiday to Italy the following week) and it was a great evening of delicious cuisine and good service. First thing to say is that this restaurant is a good choice for a special occasion, and what I would call on my budget a "posh meal out"; not something I could afford on a regular basis. However the food was amazing and I would definitely recommend VeroGusto to anyone looking for a great Independent Italian Restaurant to celebrate an occasion in.

We decided to treat ourselves to starters AND mains, and I thought I'd order the Ciccio (Flatbread with garlic, balsamic and olive oil) to set off the meal, not realising just how big a portion we would get! I think this would be good enough to share between two on it's own, but we also wanted to try the Ravioli Stracchio & Tartufo Nero (Ravioli filled with Stracchio cheese, black truffle and foamed 24 months mature Parmigiano Reggiano and roasted hazelnuts.) I am so glad we did opt to try this too as it was superb. The Ravioli was a decent starter portion for one on it's own, but great to share alongside another starter as we did.

If I am ever out at an Italian restaurant I would always rather opt for a pasta, meat or fish dish than a pizza as I see this as more of a junk/fast food. The menu at VeroGusto didn't include pizzas, and was a cosy, small menu, so this was great for me to stick to my rule and shows the quality behind the dishes served at their price point. The food served here is either local to Sheffield or straight from Italy.

For my main I chose Tagliatelle & Broccoli (with pistachio and Burrata cheese). The broccoli gave this dish a really fresh taste and it was absolutely delicious. I ate every last bit. A really nice and fulfilling vegetarian meal. Ben chose the Papparedelle Salsiccia (Pappardelle with sausage, Portobello mushrooms and Pecorino Toscano. Another fantastically put together dish with great flavour. Both pasta dishes were very filling and yummy.

We received great service from the staff here, and for two courses each, a large glass of wine, and two or three beers the bill came to approx. £90. The restaurant was really busy even on a Wednesday evening so I would recommend booking ahead. For more information about VeroGusto, please visit their website here.

I hope that you enjoyed my review and it has inspired you to give this restaurant a visit. Please check out my other reviews, and my recipes too! Happy munching!
