A lovely Tea Bar & Kitchen serving up brunch and a range of daily specials as well offering an extensive hot drinks menu including hand blended tea, based in Sheffield's Industrial Quarter. Enjoy a hot brunch, a slice of cake, some great teas and coffees and a cute selection of take-away gifts from local independents here too!
Last Saturday I met with a group of local ladies whom I met through Sheffield Food Socials, to try out the brunch at Birdhouse Tea Bar & Kitchen, and we all really enjoyed our visit.
The venue is really pretty and cosy and I was actually surprised how big the café was. The menu has some great choices from classic Brunch dishes to Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Daily Specials, Pancakes and more. There is also a large offering of teas, coffees, hot chocolates as well as cold beverages.
I decided to get a little festive with a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate with cream and a gingerman biscuit - this was very pleasing to the eye and the taste buds - lovely, sweet and warming. Perfect for a cold Saturday morning. For food I opted for the Mexican Corn Fritters; Handmade sweetcorn fritters stacked with smashed avocado, spicy black beans, fresh tomato salsa, sour cream, free range poached eggs and peashoots. (You can add streaky bacon to this too!) Another dish that was aesthetically pleasing and was very yummy. I liked the crunch to the fritters and the hint of chilli in the background. My poached egg was unfortunately not runny but this didn't let the dish down too much. A delicious brunch/lunch type dish.
I also shared a side of Pigs in Blankets with one of the girls which I have to say, was a little disappointing compared to everything else that was brought out to us as and didn't seem very value for money... as yummy as the small portion as I don't think I would order this again at £5.
Other dishes that were enjoyed were; Garlic Mushroom & Halloumi Toast with Poached Eggs - I have to say this looked AMAZING if not a belly busting portion. Bacon, Brie & Cranberry Grilled Cheese with Chips went down well. Apple & Cinnamon Pancakes - big, fluffy pancakes but maybe a portion size to take some away to enjoy later? I was also intrigued by the Sheffield Fog drink which is a take on the London Fog drink of a sort of Earl Grey Tea Latte, this looked so pretty and warming I think I may have to give this a try next time.
I would recommend this Tea Bar & Kitchen for a visit, if you want to know more about them, check out Birdhouse's website here.
