No flour and no refined sugar. I have added natural fat and ghee to make it healthier. This recipe is a keeper. I prepared it first time but it won't be the last time. I thought this needs to be documents. This balls are loaded with natural fat, they are mildly sweet with natural sugar and I have added edible gum which helps new mom and people with back pain. During winter months, our body needs extra warmth so people in India prepares many such dishes. You may have seen my recipes for Gol Papdi, Adadiya Pak, Raab, Katlu Pak, Nutritional Squares, etc. are prepared especially during winter months.

This recipe is prepared using few ingredients. It is very high in protein and it is gluten free. I would suggest to eat only one small ladoo per day.

Benefits:

  1. Edible gum is considered to be a warming food and helps generate heat in the body. Thus it usually eaten in the cold weather of winter months. Some research also says that it helps in bone strengthening and thus recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
  2. Dates are high in fiber and antioxidants. Their nutritional benefits may support brain health and prevent disease
  3. Nuts are great source of many nutrients and fiber, loaded with antioxidants, may lower cholesterol , beneficial for Type 2 diabetes and metabolic Syndrome, may reduce Inflammation.
  4. Sesame seeds are a good source of healthy fats, protein, B vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and other beneficial plant compounds
  5. Lotus seeds exert anti‐inflammatory, anti‐cancer, hypoglycemic activity and others. Lotus seeds have beneficial aspects by decreasing the risk of chronic diseases
  6. Though ghee is rich in fat, it contains high concentrations of monounsaturated Omega-3s. These healthful fatty acids support a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. Studies show that using ghee as a part of a balanced diet can help reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels.

Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cup makhana (lotus seeds)
15-20 almonds
¼ cup walnuts
1 cup chopped dates
1/4 cup edible gum (Gond)
4-5 tbsp melted ghee or coconut oil
Small pinch cardamom powder
Ladoo

Procedure:
1. Dry roast sesame seeds on low to medium heat until slightly changes the colour and gets crunchy. Take it out in a small bowl and keep it on side.
2. Now dry roast both nuts (almonds and walnuts) on medium heat until slightly brown. Remove from pan and mix with sesame seeds.
3. Using the same pan, dry roast makhana (lotus) seeds on low to medium until slightly brown. Keep this in a separate bowl to cool.
4. Add 2 tbsp ghee in the same pan. Once ghee is slightly hot, lower the heat and add edible gum. Fry this until it puffs up and become white. Stir it continuous so it doesn't get burned. Once completely fried, remove in a big mixing bowl. When it slightly cools down, crush it with any flat surface. As long as gum is fried properly, it will be easy to crush. Keep this aside.
5. Again heat the same pan, add chopped dates and 1 tsp oil. Sauté for 1 minute and turn off the heat. This helps in softening dates.
6. First grind roasted makhana using mixer grinder. Make it powder. Add this powder to the bowl with crushed edible gum (gond). Mix these two well.
7. Now add roasted sesame seeds, almonds and walnuts to the mixer grinder. Grind it until slightly buttery consistency. Add the soften dates and continue grinding. It all becomes a thick paste.
8. Add nuts and dates paste to makhana and gond mixture and mix everything well. Also add small pinch of ilaichi (cardamom) power. Add ghee if mixture doesn't bind. I added around 2 tbps hot ghee. Mix everything with clean hands.
Ladoo mixture
9. Make small ladoo. Store these in clean container at room temperature. These ladoos are too addictive, try to eat 1 ladoo every day 😀. This will stay good for at least 2 weeks.
