I recently checked out the "Kalua Pork with Cabbage" at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue! Slowly roasted shredded pork, combined with fresh cabbage; served plate lunch style with two scoops rice and one scoop mac salad - $11.49. Although this establishment has been plagued with checkered reviews, I visited for documentary purposes. The young lady at the counter was pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was very clean and bright, although the music playing was somewhat jarring. Some soothing ukulele ballads would have been more fitting.
This meal was really good and such a huge portion. The pork was tender, moist and hot throughout. The rice was somewhat of a gummy mass. Mac salad pretty average. Did not reach the standard of a good Phil's BBQ mac salad. I still cannot get past the fact that cold mac salad is packaged in the same styrofoam box with all the hot food. It almost creates a thunderstorm inside. My son enjoyed his Katsu Chicken. Again, another generous portion. We also had an order of lumpia that was very tasty.
