Crazy Duck is such a charming little fast-service Chinese restaurant. Situated in an east Poway strip mall, in between the AMC theaters and Statler Brothers. The staff here is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They have a rather small yet thoughtful menu featuring a variety of duck dishes. If you're not into the quack, there's enough other options to please just about anyone. Dine-in customers are offered a complimentary serving of their Hot & Sour Soup. You're invited to serve yourself from two large vats near the front window. The soup was tasty, although the mouthfeel was somewhat more viscous than I like. It was quite richly flavored. Here you order at the counter and your food is delivered to the table. Some items are served in to-go containers which I find tacky and awkward.
On to the food now, I ordered the Spicy Pork Wontons which were outstanding! I felt the sauce was a perfect level of spice without being overbearing. The wontons seemed house-made and contained a generous amount of flavorful pork. After eating about half this dish, the texture became monotonous. May be best to share with someone rather than trying to eat the whole serving yourself. I also had the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings (served in a paper box) which were excellent. Perfectly breaded, crispy and liberally seasoned on the outside; meaty and juicy on the inside. Included 3 drummettes and 3 flats. Definitely needed a good surgeon style hand washing after this one.
