A seafood institution since 1946, Anthony's has been an important part of our lives and San Diego's history. The wife of a fisherman, Catherine "Mama" Ghio used her own secret recipes to satisfy a hungry, growing city. Sadly, in 2017 Anthony's closed its iconic San Diego Bay location. Fortunately, their one stalwart location in La Mesa remains in business. The restaurant is stunning, featuring a classy, vintage dining room and picturesque lakeside patio. I enjoyed an appetizer order of "Fish and Shrimp Dippers", fried in their famous batter. Also a remarkably good clam chowder.
