Of course, this was during the same street food hunt but both were distinctly different, both in terms of taste and texture. I looked up why this particular style of stinky tofu is black (the Taiwanese version is a normal golden brown) and apparently it's because the tofu is soaked in a marinade containing shiitake mushroom and black bean, resulting in its dark colour.
