In this video, I review the food and service of Sholo Ana Bangali, a restaurant that claims to offer authentic Bengali cuisine in Darjeeling.
I ordered a variety of dishes, such as moong dal, aloo bhaja, pholkopir rasha, dhokar dalna, katla kalia, chicken curry, mutton curry, mango chutney, papad, and rasogolla.
Some of the dishes were good in taste, such as the moong dal, aloo bhaja, pholkopir rasha, and dhokar dalna.
However, I was very disappointed with the katla kalia, which was bad in taste and the fish was not cooked well. The chicken curry was average, with a pale gravy and an ok chicken. The mutton curry was cooked well, but not as expected in taste. The mango chutney was too sweet, as it was preserved in sugar syrup. The papad was average in taste, and the rasogolla was pure, but nothing extraordinary.
The worst part of the experience was the price, which was very high for the quality and quantity of the food. They also served the food in cheap shal pata plates, which were leaking. The table size of the restaurant was very small, and they did not serve drinking water.
The restaurant was also very loud, congested, and overcrowded. To top it all, they also did wrong billing and charged me extra for some items.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a good Bengali meal in Darjeeling. It is a waste of money and time.
