Location: 小楊生煎, Shanghai, China
Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★
Shengjian (fried dumplings or fried soup buns) is a famous street food in Shanghai and while I usually prefer smaller local joints for street food, the large chain Yang's is my favourite place to go to for shengjian. Whichever location I go to in Shanghai, they always deliver a delicious shengjian (or two, or more). I remember the first time I went, I got a set of eight shengjian (six shown here, I guess I must have already eaten two before taking this photo) with the intention of sharing them with my mom. For some reason my mom didn't want any so I had all eight - probably not a good idea as they were fried but they were so good that I just devoured them. As much as I enjoyed them in the moment, I regretted having all eight in one sitting because soon after I got a sore throat, which was definitely no coincidence...but Yang's shengjian is still the best!!!
