Item: Russian "Fur Coat" salad (herring salad)

The name of this dish was "herring cake" on the menu and while it does look like a colourful cake, some research led to the information that it's also called "shuba" or "fur coat salad". There were three layers to this salad or "cake" - the bottom was a potato-based salad; the middle was pickled herring, the star of the dish; and the top was grated egg. I could understand that pickled herring would be an acquired taste, and honestly I rathered liked it, combined with the difference in flavour and texture between all of the layers. It was certainly the first time I had something like it and a fun taste overall 😉
