18 Small Pantries Big on Smart Storage Solutions

Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:25 AM PDT

Why is it that all the super-satisfying pantry makeovers seem to have one thing in common? That one thing being space, and lots of it? Every time I "ooh" and "aah" over a freshly decluttered and rearranged pantry, it's a space probably five times the size of mine—and I'm truly not exaggerating. It's easier, presumably, to make things look neater and cleaner when there's more space for breathing room, but it's harder to find functional (and attractive) solutions when you're low on space.

While it's always fun to ogle expansive homes with walk-in pantries and such, the reality is that most of us don't have a ton of storage, especially in the kitchen. In fact, a lot of homes and apartments—my own included—are fairly sparse in the food storage department, which forces us to get crafty if we want to keep everything organized and out of sight.

How to Care for Your Plants in a Heat Wave

Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:00 PM PDT

It probably comes as no surprise that extreme summer heat is tough on plants. Because water is a precious and limited resource, we cannot rely solely on watering alone. Here are a few other things to give your plants extra TLC during a heat wave:

1. Prioritize Your Watering

In addition to picking the right timing for watering, the most important thing is to prioritize your watering. Your vegetables and container plants should get first dibs, because even a couple of sweltering hot days without watering can wreak havoc on them. Next are annual flowers, and any newly planted perennials, shrubs, and trees. Drip-watering and soaker hoses are ideal, but if you must use a hose or a watering can, make sure to water slowly and always water directly onto the base of the plant.

Dole Blueberries Have Been Recalled in Four States

Posted: 30 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Before you start mixing a new batch of muffin batter or tossing together the filling for a blueberry pie, take a peek in your refrigerator. Dole issued a recall of fresh blueberries due to cyclospora contamination on June 24th. In a statement, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that "Dole Diversified North America, Inc. is coordinating closely with regulatory officials."

According to the FDA, cyclosporiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the cyclospora parasite. "A person may become infected after ingesting contaminated food or water," said the announcement. "Common symptoms include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, body aches, and fatigue. The infection is treated with antibiotics and most people respond quickly to treatment." Fortunately, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) says that individuals with a healthy immune system will recover from an infection caused by the parasite.

12 Inventive Ideas for Your Most Organized Laundry Room Yet

Posted: 30 Jun 2021 05:30 AM PDT

I wouldn't count my laundry room as one of my favorite spaces. It's small, cluttered, and—more often than not—a mess. In general, I tend to just close the door and pretend it's not there until I have to do laundry, so I'm always surprised to see people who love their laundry rooms enough to not only leave the door open, but actually post photos of the space on social media!

I think the difference between those laundry rooms and my laundry room really comes down to organization. There's no rhyme or reason to how I stash my laundry supplies or organize dirty clothes, which makes the space feel a bit chaotic. (Okay, very chaotic.) I started looking for ways that I could tidy up the space—keeping in mind that it's tiny—and here are some of the best laundry room organization ideas that I found along the way.
