Large, Italian restaurant based in the centre of Wetherby serving tasty food and perfect pizzas!
This was my first visit to Sant' Angelo restaurant and I was surprised by how big and open it was - a nice setting for a hearty Italian meal. The pizzas on offer looked great across social media so this is what we were there for, but we were starving so ordered some starters too.
For my starter I went for something refreshing; CAPRESE DI BARBABIETOLA - Slow cooked beetroots, topped with Buffalo mozzarella, toasted walnuts with orange segments and fried capers. Dressed with orange and chive vinaigrette dressing. This was tasty, light and refreshing just as I hoped it would be and I was always going to be happy with a whole ball of mozzarella just for me
Ben went for; CAPESANTE CARCIOFI - Pan fried king scallops served with Italian artichokes, chilli, garlic and a white wine and butter sauce. I allowed him to order the fish (haha!) however I didn't try these but I hear they were cooked perfectly and were delicious and they smelt it too!
PIZZAAAAS!!
The pizzas looked large but there was so many delicious sounding options on offer so we decided to order 2 and share (and we ended up with lunch leftovers too!). We went for;
SANT ANGELO SPECIAL - A crispy based pizza, topped with tomato sauce, fior di latte cheese, mushrooms, roast ham, grilled chicken, rocket salad, black olives and red onions.
CALABRESE - Crispy based pizza topped with tomato sauce, fior di latte cheese, fresh chilli, Tuscan sausage, Calabrian nduja sausage and red onions topped with rocket and parmesan shavings.
Both pizzas were gorgeous, the dough was perfect; quite thin but yet still crisp, and the toppings were also really good - coming from someone that tends to get a fairly plain pizza usually! We really enjoyed the pizzas a lot, and even the next day for lunch!
In summary we really enjoyed some delicious food at Sant' Angelo, however I did feel the whole experience and atmosphere lacked a little unusually for an Italian restaurant. Service and food was a little slow. I also got a shock (after getting used to lockdown & local pub prices) when I hadn't realised my large glass of house red wine was costing me £8! But despite that, we really enjoyed the food. Check out their website here.
