Scream 5 Manages to Slash Its Way Through $100M Globally

Posted: 02 Feb 2022 08:25 AM PST

Besides  Spider-Man: No Way Home, Scream was the only other film in the month of January that kept the box office from freezing over and, in its third weekend of release, this fifth installment of the famous slasher series crossed the $100 million mark worldwide, Collider reports.

After a very successful opening weekend which saw Scream make over $30 million, the horror sequel managed to make another $7.35 million in its third weekend which was only a 40% drop from its second weekend gross of 12.4 million. This brings its domestic total up to $62.13 million. On top of that, it also made $6.5 million internationally this weekend bringing its foreign box office up to $44.1 million. Add both totals together, and you cross the $100 million mark at roughly $106 million.

The fifth Scream movie has passed Scream 4's entire worldwide box office run which made only $97 million. The $62 million is already way past the fourth film's domestic total of $38 million, almost doubling it, and it is also supported by the fact that the new Scream's reported budget was almost $20 million less than Scream 4's $40 million budget at $24 million. This more than likely means a sixth Scream film is on the way. Hopefully it will improve upon this sequel.

Scream 5 is playing in theaters now.

Media Compares School’s Ignorant Banning of ‘Maus’ to Rejecting CRT

Posted: 02 Feb 2022 04:45 AM PST

Far-left cartoonist Spiegelman’s experiencing something that was to be fully expected in the tragically politicized climate his side of the spectrum led to, as described by Reuters:

A school board in Tennessee has voted to remove the Holocaust-themed graphic novel “Maus” from its eighth-grade language arts curriculum, citing profanity and nudity contained in the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by cartoonist Art Spiegelman.

The 10-0 vote by the McMinn County Board of Education in Athens, Tennessee, located about 150 miles (240 km) southeast of Nashville, came on Jan. 10 but gained wide U.S. media attention on Thursday, ironically coinciding with International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The board vote overrode a state-level curriculum review that had approved the teaching of “Maus,” based on the real-life Holocaust experiences of Spiegelman’s parents in Poland, with Jewish characters depicted as mice and their Nazi persecutors as cats.

The title of the two-volume publication, which became the first graphic novel to be awarded a Pulitzer, in 1992, is the German word for mouse.

In a CNN interview on Thursday, the author described his initial reaction to the ban as “total bafflement” and called the school board’s action “daffily myopic.”

Spiegelman, 73, said the board appeared from transcripts of its meeting to have “totally focused on some bad words that are in the book.”

The board, in a statement posted on its website on Thursday, said the novel was removed “because of its unnecessary use of profanity and nudity and its depiction of violence and suicide,” which the panel found was “simply too adult-oriented for use in our schools.”

To be quite honest, I think the board is making a hysterical mistake, based, if anything, on that this is a book drawing from historical contexts. Based on that, this is exactly why they shouldn’t be opposed to focus on nudity and violence the same way they presumably would when it comes to graphic horror movies and pornography tapes.

What’s really disturbing about this besides the school board’s decision, however, is that the leftist press decided to exploit this news for making it sound as though conservatives are literally behind this, and to defend Critical Race Theory:

The ban comes as Republican politicians around the country have seized on the teaching of “critical race theory” – putting the history of institutionalized racism into a larger instructional context – as anathema to public education, while calling for greater parental control in schools.

Oh, so that’s Reuters’ game? Blurring and obscuring the differences between this matter and a Marxist ideology that actually teaches hatred primarily against whites, and contrary to what apologists claim, it doesn’t teach history. Shameful that Reuters is making this sound more like a case of conservatives literally enacting censorship here.

I will say that, if the school staff behind this are right-wing, they’ve provided ammunition for left-wing fanatics. But if the school staff are leftists, then Reuters is actually letting them off the hook for a decidedly reprehensible action, and rendering the topic farcical.

But is ultra-liberal Spiegelman being altruistic when he raises objections to this? I’d spoken before about how this same cartoonist is one of the most anti-Trump activists around, and get the strange feeling he has no interest in taking issue with his fellow leftists for the censorious, deleterious atmosphere they’ve led to in the past decade. So, how does he expect to solve the current crisis that’s affected his work as well? Why, he practically admitted he may not be able to produce a book like Maus with the way things are going today. But does he realize leftism’s been the major reason for that? Again, he shows no signs of criticizing his own side for their deeds in this whole affair.

The Times of Israel/JTA reported that there’s been a backlash against the school board’s decision:

A rural Tennessee school board's decision earlier this month to remove "Maus," the celebrated graphic novel about the Holocaust, from its curriculum has attracted fierce backlash from other pockets of the state and beyond.

A nearby comic-book store is pledging to give away the book for free, an area church plans to hold a discussion on its themes and a college professor intends to offer free classes on the book to students in the county. […]

Nirvana Comics, a comic-book store in Knoxville, announced Thursday on social media that it would be giving away copies of Art Spiegelman's Pulitzer Prize-winning book to any interested students, saying, "It is a must-read for everyone."

According to local news station WBIR, the store was expecting a large shipment of the books to arrive soon, and was "in discussions with a much larger organization to expand the program." […]

The county school board's rejection of the book generated international news coverage, with prominent authors including Neil Gaiman harshly criticizing the board's decision.

Seeing a would-be auteur like Gaiman weighed in on this, does even he realize the leftists he sides with have condoned censorship affecting these graphic novels? It’s uncertain, given how vague and superficial he sounds whenever he’s spoken about topics like these.

I think one of the saddest parts of this whole affair is that a writer at Yahoo is also exploiting this news to claim conservatives are the guilty party here:

Attempts by conservative activists to regulate how schools discuss race, sexuality and gender have contributed to an ongoing effort to remove books seen as controversial from school curricula and libraries.

The most recent high-profile example was Art Spiegelman's award-winning "Maus," a graphic novel that depicts the horrors of the Holocaust, being removed from a Tennessee eighth-grade language arts curriculum. The McMinn County School Board voted 10-0 to remove Spiegelman's book on Jan. 10, but the story began to circulate Wednesday after a report from the Tennessee Holler. According to the minutes from the meeting, the use of curse words and "nakedness" were the impetus for the change.

[…] "You have these — they call themselves parents' rights organizations — pursuing this censorship agenda and arguing that censorship is the proper solution, but once you start using book banning as a tool, where does it end?" Caldwell-Stone said. "So you end up with work like 'Maus' being on the chopping block, so what comes next?"

So only parental organizations are the worry, not far-left movements like the ones who believe PayPal use should be censored for all dissenters, or those who’re advocating censorship of classic books? It also says in Yahoo’s article:

Another organization involved is No Left Turn in Education, which has dozens of books listed on its website that it claims "spread radical and racist ideologies to students. They demean our nation and its heroes, revise our history, and divide us as a people for the purpose of indoctrinating kids to a dangerous ideology."

The books listed are predominantly written by nonwhite authors, and on the same page, the group includes books that discuss LGBTQ themes and feature LGBTQ characters. Titles on the list include Ibram X. Kendi's "How to Be an Antiracist," Angie Thomas's "The Hate U Give" and Sarah Hoffman's "Jacob's New Dress."

And if these authors are teaching anti-white racism, not to mention indoctrinating encouragement to practice homosexuality and transsexuality, in some of the most stupefying examples of neo-punk subculture seen since the 1980s, that’s not a concern? Apparently not. But it’s to be expected the MSM would use this issue with Spiegelman’s books as an excuse to include irrelevant matters.

No matter how graphic some of the material in Maus is, I don’t think it should be removed from school curriculum. But it’s clear the MSM’s own reaction to this isn’t altruistic, and there’s only so many other comics they’re unlikely to defend if in jeopardy of censorship. For example, the Punisher, whose very own co-creator, Gerry Conway, as noted before, no longer respects, and probably never did. Why, what if the Spectre at DC, who was originally co-created by Jerry Siegel, is shunned the same way because Jim Corrigan was a police detective? Sooner or later, these sad possibilities are bound to happen, and nobody on the left in comicdom is likely to protest, because of all the defunding police propaganda they’re now embracing, a mindset that’s affected Mike Baron’s promotion for Thin Blue Line as well. Products like these, at this point, are unlikely to be seen in school curriculum either.

Walt Disney Company & WWE Just Signed a Multiyear Agreement

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 03:55 PM PST

Looks like the House of Mouse is ready to be the House of Pain… Disney and WWE inked a multiyear agreement to make Disney Plus Hotstar the exclusive home for WWE Network in Indonesia.

WWE Network, including its live event content, became available on Disney Plus Hotstar in Indonesia beginning with Sunday’s Royal Rumble.

It's the first standalone international distribution deal for WWE Network, and WWE's first direct deal with Disney (although Disney has inherited Fox's Latin America deals with the wrestling entertainment company). In the U.S., WWE last year shifted WWE Network to be exclusively available on NBCUniversal's Peacock Premium. Separately WWE's deal with Disney-controlled Hulu for re-air rights of "Raw" and "SmackDown" in the U.S. is up at the end of 2022.

Under the agreement, all WWE premium live events will be available on Disney Plus Hotstar Indonesia as part of the standard subscription price for no additional cost. Premium live event coverage will be delivered in Bahasa Indonesia as well as in English. In addition, Disney Plus Hotstar subscribers in Indonesia will have on-demand access to WWE documentaries and reality shows and additional WWE Network and archived content (including episodes of "Raw," "SmackDown" and "NXT").

"As home of the best global and local-language content, we're excited to welcome the extensive library of content from WWE Network to the ever expanding slate of Disney Plus Hotstar," Vineet Puri, GM for Indonesia at the Walt Disney Co., said in a statement. "With this new content on Disney+ Hotstar, we hope to expand our reach and engage even more audiences in Indonesia."

WWE president Nick Khan commented, "The Walt Disney Company has long been the gold standard in creating iconic intellectual property that serves as the backbone for international business growth. Partnering with Disney Plus Hotstar will allow us to deliver WWE Network content including WrestleMania on a best-in-class platform to our existing fans in Indonesia while also introducing WWE to new audiences in the region as Disney Plus continues to expand its reach internationally."

Proving Our Point: Image Comics’ Workers Union Quickly Goes to War

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 01:10 PM PST

Less than a week after ratifying their Comic Book Workers Union, Image Comics’ new labor union for office staff quickly turned combative and filed a legal complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against the publisher. In the filing, Image Comics is accused of engaging in “unfair labor practices,” retaliating against union members, and interfering with the exercise of employees’ rights by knowingly disseminating false information, according to the petition.

Even before the union was ratified, the CBWU was quite aggressive and combative with Image Comics. The legal documents are published below.

If it’s not already clear, this is demonstrative of why most companies do not welcome labor unions and illustrates exactly what we warned about three weeks ago. Comics by Perch speculates on where this goes from here:

The business of comic book publishing just got very restrictive and expensive at Image Comics. How long before this spreads throughout the industry?

The Flash’s Ezra Miller Sends Bizarre Threat to Non-Existent KKK Group

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 09:15 AM PST

First it was Superman Smashes the Klan. Now it’s The Flash vs. the Ku Klux Klan.

Last week, Ezra Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, is best known for starring as Barry Allen in the DCEU movies, and is set to lead his own superhero movie, The Flash, later in 2022. A few days ago, the actor posted a cryptic Instagram selfie video in which he appears to make threats to a group he refers to as the Beulaville chapter of the North Carolina Ku Klux Klan.

A post shared by Ezra Miller (@ezra._x_.aradia)

In the video, the actor says the following: “Hi, this is Ezra Miller, a.k.a. the Bengal Ghouls, the Mad Goose Wizard, and this is a message for the Beulaville chapter of the North Carolina Ku Klux Klan,” the star said. “Hello! First of all, how are ya’ll doing? It’s me. Look, if ya’ll wanna die, I suggest just killing yourselves with your own guns, OK?”

Miller then adds, “Otherwise, keep doing exactly what you’re doing right now—and you know what I’m talking about—and then, you know, we’ll do it for you, if that’s really what you want. OK. Talk to you soon, OK? Byeeee!”

Along with the video, Miller wrote in the caption, "Please disseminate (gross!) this video to all those whom it may concern. This is not a joke and even though I do recognize myself to be a clown please trust me and take this seriously. Let's save some live [sic] now ok babies? Love you like woah."

Is this boy on drugs?

Miller was very clearly calling out a group he labelled “the Beulaville chapter of the Ku Klux Klan,” but it’s not clear why he chose them as the target. The town of Beulaville is found in Duplin County, NC, and has a population of less than 1,200 people. Any potential KKK groups in the town don’t appear to have an online presence, or an Instagram account. Bounding Into Comics reported that they could find no such group, and the Matrixx and Rhodes Show revealed even the SPLC has no mention of the group, or the city itself. No one is pro-KKK, but this video was just bizarre.

So is this just another case of Hollywood virtue signaling, or is something else going on?

Another strange video circulated back in April 2020 that showed Miller confronting and choking a woman while in Iceland. The seven-second clip shows what appeared to be Miller saying, "Oh, you wanna fight? That's what you wanna do?" to a young woman, who appears to be jokingly preparing herself for a fight and is smiling. Miller then grabs the girl by the throat, and throws her to the ground. At this point, the person filming says, "Woah, bro. Bro," and stops shooting, with the footage ending abruptly.

Variety reported that the incident took place around 6 p.m. on April 1 at Prikið Kaffihús, a bar in Reykjavik that Miller frequents whenever he is in the area.  The footage sparked immediate backlash, and Ezra Miller never commented the matter.  A source confirmed to Variety at the time it was a serious altercation, rather than a joke as some had speculated.

I’m sure his agent is thrilled.

In 2020, we reported on rumors that following all the delays of his Flash solo film, Ezra Miller was out as the Flash, but the film’s delays weren’t the reason. Grace Randolph, of Beyond the Trailer had the following to say:

"I don't know about Ezra. I hear there's like… I don't know… Okay… I'll tell you a little something about Ezra," said Randolph. "I know that there might be something else about him coming out. And you know, we'll just see if it ever gets reported. It's kind of similar to how I heard that Kevin Tsujihara had something about him. I heard about that like months before that broke, that story about Kevin Tsujihara that was such a big problem for him. So I heard there is a little something similar with Ezra, and I don't know if it will ever come out. I don't even know what it is. So I can't even say what it is, 'cause I don't know. But I just heard there's something."

To my knowledge, Randolph hasn’t reported on what she heard since, but her reference to Tsujihara could be a clue.  Tsujihara managed Warner Bros. for more than five years. But THR published text messages allegedly between Tsujihara and a young British actress, Charlotte Kirk which revealed that several years ago Kirk agitated for movie roles following an alleged sexual dalliance with the studio boss, according to the report.

There’s no reason to think Miller was involved in any sort of sexual harassment incident, but there appears to be something unsavory about the actor. If he keeps showing up in the weird videos, who knows what might come out next?

"I am deeply grateful for the commitment to excellence and the dedication my teams bring to what they do every day. The fact that we are marking Diamond's 40th anniversary today is a tribute to their hard work and gives us all reason to celebrate!"

From the beginning, Diamond has been dedicated to the specialized needs of the Direct Market and focused on continuous improvement. I have been with Diamond for almost 37 years and while I have seen many changes in our industry, Diamond has stayed true to that vision."

Are Today’s Comic Readers Rejecting DC’s “Woke” Superman?

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 06:10 AM PST

Bounding Into Comics found sales data giving important signs that the DC Comics audience is fed up with the famous creations being exploited by ideologues to force tasteless and crude agendas down everyone’s throats:

The latest data set featuring comic book sales from December appear to show that readers are rejecting DC Comics' woke changes to Superman.

If you haven't been paying attention to all the woke changes DC Comics has made to Superman there have been a ton.

First, they replaced Clark Kent with his son Jonathan Kent as Superman and then made him attracted to dudes. […]

Quickly following that at DC FanDome, DC Comics Publisher Jim Lee announced that Superman's iconic motto "Truth, Justice, and The American Way" would be changed to "Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow."

Lee explained the change was to "better reflect the global storylines that we are telling across DC and to honor the character's incredible legacy of over 80 years of building a better world."

Lee-the-leftist has been part of the problem for a long time. In all the years he rose from artist to executive, he’s done quite a bit, along with the recently fired Dan DiDio, to dumb-down everything DC’s heroes and their co-stars were all about, and they practically followed up their predecessors of the 90s normalizing jarring violence in their storytelling. It’s clear regardless of his ranking Lee doesn’t belong in this job anymore, if he cares about nothing but soulless storytelling.

Then DC Comics writer Tom Taylor revealed that the new gay Superman is also a climate activist.

Taylor shared the cover for Superman: Son of Kal-El #7 that shows Kent holding up a sign that reads, "School Strike For Climate."

In an interview with IGN, Taylor elaborated, "The question for Jon (and for our creative team) is, what should a new Superman fight for today? Can a seventeen-year-old Superman battle giant robots while ignoring the climate crisis? Of course not."

He then detailed that he's not just a climate activist, but he is also an activist for illegal immigrants as well, "Can someone with super sight and super hearing ignore injustices beyond his borders? Can he ignore the plight of asylum seekers?"

Can the writers ignore violent crime carried by any of these interlopers into the USA in real life? What’s ironic about Taylor’s blather is that it’s highly unlikely he’ll ever write the son of Kal-El confronting the issue of migrant children kept in cages by the Biden staff. Which makes Taylor a serious hypocrite.

Previous estimates for the book's sales showed it was in the gutter with Comichron claiming the first book of Superman: Son of Kal-El only sold 68,800 issues back in July when it first debuted. That was good for the 17th best selling comic of the month.

The most recent data compiled by Comichron reveals that the book's third issue only sold 34,000 copies in September. That was good for the 77th best selling comic of the month.

[…] ICv2's most recent data set for December, reveals it was a one-time gimmick as the book did not show up in the top 50 chart when looking at total units. Superman: Son of Kal-El 2021 Annual #1 did place 45th on ICv2's Top 50 Comic Books by Dollars chart for the month.

Yup, that’s pretty low as anything else is well before the turn of the century. So while DC boasted they had “unprecedented orders” made for the 5th issue, it’s clear nobody cares about these stunts anymore.

While we’re on the subject, this reminded me of a most devastating discovery I made on the Superman Homepage reviews, of the 5th issue of Son of Kal-El, where the reviewer gushed over it sight unseen, and the following is head-shaking:

The twist that Jay will never need Jon to rescue him because he is beyond physical harm is a great one and also helps remove the trope of so many other superheroes. Their interaction is touching and Jay proves to be far more analytical with issues than Jon. I really like that they are brains and brawn separately but together a dynamic team.

Oh yeah, Jon and Jay kiss.

Who would’ve thought a site dedicated to the first famous superhero could’ve sunk this low over many years, and their reviewers could embrace such a Mary Sue direction, where a character is devoid of flaws and/or vulnerability to physical harm? This is seriously atrocious, as is their take on one of the variant covers, a gimmick that’s become a sad staple in over 15 years:

Like the other variant, Jon and Jay as a superhero couple is romantic and uplifting, over the past 80 years we’ve seen Clark in many a romance driven cover with his various girlfriends so it was only a matter of time before his son found love. I like that these type of stories are finally being told in a Superman book. It’s a emotional cover but again given the story inside I would have preferred it.

And with this, the reviewer fails to explain why it should be with the same sex, rather than a girl. I guess they also believe the whole notion of a lady in distress from violent criminals is also thoroughly outmoded, to the point they’d rather this badly developed “successor” to the Man of Steel should only be paired with a seemingly indestructible man. After reading this, I was so colossally disappointed with the Superman Homepage site for succumbing to woke PC, I had to remove them from the external links menu here. This is just not a healthy direction they’re taking, and if that’s what they think, I can’t believe they’re really Super-fans.

And in more on the subject of Superman, Newsarama’s also been fluff-coating how the death of the Man of Steel in 1992-93 changed comics and marketing “forever”, which tragically makes sense in a manner of speaking, when you consider the alarmingly repetitive depths comicdom sunk to over the past decades:

But the concept of superheroes dying and returning from the dead truly took hold in 1992’s landmark story ‘The Death of Superman’ (still some of the highest-selling comic books and then subsequent collections of all time), which took not just the comic industry but mainstream media by storm, leading to fans lining up around the block across the country to purchase copies of what was, at the time, one of the most famous stories ever told in comics.

This flipped the comic industry on its head, and along with Todd McFarlane’s 1990 relaunch of Spider-Man and then the subsequent 1991 X-Men relaunch by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, 1992’s ‘Death of Superman’ sent the comic book market into a speculation boom with sales numbers that were (and still are) nearly unheard of – all on the back of the death of one of the most popular characters in fiction.

And that’s not a bad thing? Well, not in the minds of these pseudo-journalists, that’s for sure. If anybody bought into the issues more for monetary value than story merit, something’s wrong. As is the following:

At the time of the story, Superman had four separate ongoing titles – Action Comics, Superman, Superman: The Man of Steel, and The Adventures of Superman (a model that would later be copied by Marvel for Spider-Man, eventually leading to the idea of weekly series at both publishers, such as in the current ‘Spider-Man Beyond’ era). ‘The Death of Superman’ stretched through all four of these, as well as Justice League of America (where Superman was a central character) and Green Lantern (one of the first subsequent titles to chase the ‘Death of Superman’ hype for itself).

And we all know what an excruciating artistic atrocity Emerald Twilight was, though even before that, lest we forget, the disgraced Gerard Jones already took GL to a much lower level within the first 18 issues of the 3rd volume, with his dreadful leftist political allusions and contrived story elements, like the Guardian Appa Ali Apsa telekinetically hauling dozens of whole cityscapes to planet Oa, so they could serve Jones’ leftist notions of metaphors for race relations and such. (And, lest we forget, Appa was turned into a sacrificial lamb in the process, which was quite repellent.)

Fans flocked to retailers, lining up and waiting to hoard multiple copies of the death of Superman which, it was widely believed, would undoubtedly skyrocket in value. Few fans made their fortunes reselling those millions of copies, but retailers – who collectively moved the mind-boggling number of over six million copies of Superman #75, including variant editions – managed to make a mint for themselves and for DC, putting the burgeoning speculation boom into overdrive and sending fans flocking to buy any and all comic books they perceived could appreciate in value.

So, do any of those speculators feel foolish in the years since? Anybody who thinks the death of a character makes a story like this so absolutely valuable it has to be treasured for speculation or monetary value is out of their minds. And look how it all served as fodder for a video game:

But true to the story’s nature, the third chapter in the saga, ‘Reign of the Supermen,’ kicked things up a notch by replacing Kal-El with not one but four heroes – Superboy, Cyborg Superman, Steel, and the Eradicator – each occupying one of the four Superman ongoing titles, while each also claiming to be the rightful heir to Superman’s legacy.

If you were a Superman fan at the time, you undoubtedly had a favorite from among the four, all of whom have stuck around in one form or another since their introductions, with Superboy and Steel embarking on superhero careers that forged their own legacies, Eradicator and Cyborg Superman have remained recurring villains, owing to their secret malicious nature which was hidden when ‘Reign of the Supermen’ first started.

The idea was so popular that it even spun off into a video game titled The Death and Return of Superman, in which players took control of Kal-El until his death, and then played through the rest of the game as the four Supermen – until Superman’s inevitable return, just as in comics.

Nowadays, it’s perfectly common for multiple heroes to use the same codename – there are two Supermans, two Batmans, two Captain Americas, two Spider-Mans, who knows how many Green Lanterns, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. But in 1993, the idea of having four different versions of Superman all running around, even competing for the right to be Superman, was a fresh twist on the concept of legacy heroes.

It’s also commonplace for divisive politics to be forced into the proceedings, as in the case of Son of Kal-El, but Newsarama’s not interested in commenting on any of that.

Superman’s full return arrived in Adventures of Superman #505, but by the time it was on shelves, the sales bubble of ‘The Death of Superman’ had somewhat peaked with Adventures of Superman #500, the issue in which Superman was initially planned to return before that aspect of the story was delayed.

Still, the impact on the industry as a whole – in terms of both the expectations of fans when a superhero dies or is retired and on the way comic books are marketed to mainstream audiences that drive larger sales numbers – had already taken place by the time the Superman bubble burst and the story went back to business as usual.

DC immediately chased the spike caused by a ‘death and return’ type plot by killing off or retiring and replacing Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, and others all in rapid succession, with varying levels of sales and story success, and Marvel followed suit in its own ways.

And in the years since its publication, the ‘Death of Superman’ has become one of the Man of Steel’s most enduring stories, having been adapted as the aforementioned video game, a pair of animated films, multiple prose novels, several spiritual comic book sequels, and of course serving as a main plot point in the story of the films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Well that’s the problem: a story in which a character dies – resurrection notwithstanding – is seen as one of the most magnificent ideas ever told, bar none. And nobody ever questions whether that kind of approach has become a poor substitute for more challenging storylines, science-fiction or otherwise, where the heroes could battle issues like terrorism, savagery, evil world conquests and even mad scientists and monsters. In recent times, even battles between heroes have taken up far more notice than the battle versus evil, and that too is troubling, because Batman vs. Superman is a product of such thinking. And the mainstream press never questions whether this has ruined fantasy storytelling for the sake of political correctness, and an overall disrespect for what the superhero creations were originally intended for.

So of course, is it any wonder sales have sunk so low? Nope, but the MSM won’t dwell on that. All they care about is publicity stunts, and forcing wokeness on the franchises at the expense of what made them enjoyable in the years before, sadly enough.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier Foreshadowed Media’s Fixation on Russia & ‘Ultranationalists’

Back in 2010, Ubisoft released its Ghost Recon Future Soldier: Future War [Europe] (it's a mouthful) trailer, which was hyping up Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (another mouthful) video game that was eventually released in 2012. Surprisingly, that 2010 trailer has significance right now.  After all, the villains in the trailer were Russian "ultranationalists." And the ruling class of today has quite a fixation on both Russia and so-called ultranationalists.

The Ubisoft trailer effectively serves as a mini-movie. Full of suspense and action, it's quite entertaining and features a look at what people in 2010 thought future warfare might look like. Also of note is how the trailer features Russian ultranationalists as villains. Even back then, the ruling class didn't hide its contempt for nationalism. And having Russians as villains was a "safe" choice. Kinda like having white, Christian Americans as villains has long been a safe choice.

Flash forward ten-plus years and we're where we are today, with the ruling class not too fond of Russia, and openly hating American patriots interested in protecting American sovereignty. So as odd as it might seem, a decade-old video game trailer is quite relevant today with regards to real-world events.

And as an aside, the trailer also features some interesting future tech, some of which is sort of here today, and others which isn't. For instance, there's a hint that the sniper fires guided bullets. And some of the troops wear helmets with mandibles and eye protection. And then there are the unmanned ground vehicles, which are getting closer to being a reality.

As for cloaking fabrics and some of the other tech? We're not quite there yet.

By the way, if you're really interested in how past predictions of future battlefield tech panned out, you can always look back at the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems. The FCS was a much ballyhooed program that ended up being what most people would call a failure. However, some of its concepts (if not the actual systems) were more or less on-point. Check out the below mini-movie that was made in the early to mid aughts to promote FCS. (And if you want to view more, just do a "Future Combat Systems Movies" search on YouTube.)
