What Is Your Most-Wanted Game Remaster?

game remaster fire emblem

The release of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition brings the long-held hopes of its fans to fruition. So... what do you want to see next? Here are the Siliconera team's picks for most-wanted game remaster. Share yours, too!

Nintendo needs to bring Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn back. Yes, I own both and could easily go play them. But I would like both in a tidy Switch collection. Make them look all fresh and pretty!

Besides, this doesn't just benefit someone lazy like me. These two games can be incredibly expensive. Given Fire Emblem's increased reach over the last few years, I'm sure a lot of people didn't see them when they debuted. Releasing remasters of these two games would be a public service. — Jenni

tales of legendia

Tales of Legendia is an amazing RPG with a wonderful story, memorable characters, and breathtaking music. It also suffers immensely for its extremely outdated (even at the time) and distinctly un-Tales-like battle system, awful dungeon designs, and poor graphics. It was, in my opinion, not a very pretty game to look at even at the time. But because of how terrible the packaging is, so many people skip what I consider to be the most powerful entry in the Tales franchise.

Something else about Legendia is that the game is actually incomplete. There was apparently supposed to be a third chapter after the Character Quests that they had to cut due to the sheer volume of the game. The English version didn't even voice the Character Quests, making an actual second act of the game feel more like a tacked-on bonus. A remaster would mean that we get to see the game's complete vision with modern engines to make it more palatable. As it stands today, the game is perhaps one that is better experienced as a Let's Play. — Stephanie

game remaster sakura wars

You say "Remaster?", I say "Sakura Wars!," and I'll continue to do so until it happens! The original Sakura Wars was fully remade for PS2, but I think the best option for a remaster would actually be to grab the original, Saturn-era Sakura Wars 1 and 2 and localize them for release on the Switch and other modern platforms. It wouldn't be too hard, given that they received the PSP treatment some years back. Make it happen, Sega! — Josh

I'm still a bit miffed that I'm not playing Advance Wars right now (I get the delay, but still... gimme?), but I'll take a break from that for a second and back up Josh on this one. The super-late timing of the Western So Long, My Love release and the ill-advised genre shift of the new game haven't given the franchise the chance it deserves outside Japan. Let's see the Saturn remasters! — Graham

legend of dragoon remaster

The Legend of Dragoon is the first game that immediately comes to mind when I think of potential remasters. It's not the best RPG out there by any means! But with its rhythm-based QTEs and interesting blend of sci-fi and high fantasy, The Legend of Dragoon feels like a classic that's been due for a remaster for years. It'll probably never happen, but one can dream! — Kazuma

New Honkai Impact 3rd Reverist Calico Video Shows Off Pardofelis' Personality

People got another chance to learn more about the Reverist Calico Pardofelis battlesuit available in Honkai Impact 3rd. However, this latest video isn't just about showing off gameplay. It also establishes her as a character. People may already know her from visiting the Elysian Realm shop. However, the new trailer offers more insight into her personality.

Things begin with Pardofelis sitting around. That's when some Honkai appear. Since she thinks they "look weak," she decides to fight them. That's when people get to see how her and her pet cat Can attack. However, when a stronger Honkai appears, she runs off to let Mei and Raven finish the job.

Here's the full Pardofelis Honkai Impact 3rd video.

This is the second Pardofelis Honkai Impact 3rd video to appear this week. The other one is a more technical look at the character. It involved the Thirteen Flame-Chasers member Elysia going over every attack and ability in the Reverist Calico moveset. It also involved some suggestions regarding possible party members.

In addition to this battlesuit, there's one you can get for free as part of the 5.6 update. If you go through the Elysian Realm tutorial, you can earn Valkyrie Gloria. That's one of Durandal's battlesuits.

Honkai Impact 3rd is available on PCs and mobile devices. Reverist Calico joined the game in April 2022.

Square Enix Showed How FFVII Remake Scorpion Sentinel and Guard Scorpion Differed

Square Enix Showed How FFVII Remake Scorpion Sentinel and Guard Scorpion Differed

Square Enix offered a closer look at one of the earliest foes folks face in FFVII games. The official Japanese Twitter account's latest screenshots offered insight into the FFVII Remake Scorpion Sentinel, which is the current iteration of the FFVII Guard Scorpion boss. In particular, it looked at its attacks and pointed out how this version is based on the Crisis Core FFVII boss Zack Fair faced.

In general, The FFVII Remake Scorpion Sentinel doesn't look all that different from the FFVII and Crisis Core FFVII Guard Scorpion. Each one is a robot faced as an early boss, if not the first boss. It is always red. Each version looks like a scorpion. The recently shared images instead point out how the FFVII Remake version's moveset changed.

First, Square Enix shared an image looking at its model.

After that, the screenshots focus on its attacks. One appears to show the EM Field or Electrostomp moves. These involve the robot using electricity to assault Cloud and Barret. One specifically focused on an addition for this version of the FFVII Remake Scorpion Sentinel fight. There are new Mark 98 Cannons on the shoulders that can shoot at the party.

Square Enix regularly shares these sorts of details. For example, it also talked about Weiss the Immaculate and the play Loveless.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.

Falling Off Platforms Won’t Mean Death in FFXIV Fights After 6.1

Falling Off Platforms Won't Mean Death in FFXIV Fights After 6.1

People who fall won't have to worry about dying without a chance of revival in some FFXIV fights soon. In certain instances in-game, someone could fall off of a platform. When this would happen, healers in the party wouldn't be able to revive them. The preliminary FFXIV 6.1 patch notes confirmed this won't be an issue going forward.

In total, seven dungeons and trials will be affected by this change. This includes multiple difficulty options for some. Here's the full list of FFXIV fights and situations in which falling won't mean dying and being incapacitated after 6.1.

  • Amdapor Keep
  • Containment Bay (standard and Extreme)
  • The Limitless Blue (Hard and Extreme)
  • The Navel (standard, Hard and Extreme)
  • Neverreap
  • Thok ast Thok (Hard and Extreme)
  • The Whorleater (Extreme)

One of the FFXIV fights in which falling is a big issue is The Navel trial fight against Titan. It's a good example of the predicament with these situations. One of Titan's attacks involves leaping into the air and landing to deal damage and make the platform everyone is fighting on smaller. To survive, you need to run to the edges. However, being too close to the edge could mean you'll fall off when Titan would land. Ahead of the 6.1 FFXIV patch, that means you would fall off and be dead for the rest of the fight. You wouldn't return to the platform. Any healers in the party wouldn't be able to revive you.

This won't be the only change. Lots of new features, additions and changes are coming in FFXIV patch 6.1. Crystalline Conflict PvP will appear. There will be more Hrothgar and Viera cosmetic options. More clothing items' gender locks will be removed too.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and patch 6.1 will arrive on April 12, 2022.

Metroid Dread Boss Rush Modes Added in 2.1.0 Patch

Metroid Dread Boss Rush Modes Added in 2.1.0 Patch

Back in February 2022, Nintendo announced two Metroid Dread updates were on the way. While one appeared immediately, the other had an April 2022 launch window. Now various Metroid Dread Boss Rush modes are available for the game as part of the 2.1.0 patch.

Here's how it works. Once you download the 2.1.0 Metroid Dread update, you immediately could get access to Boss Rush and Practice Mode. If you already beat the game, you can access it. Every boss is available one-after-another in each. Practice Mode is self-explanatory. It involves seeing how the mode works. Boss Rush proper is more strict. Nintendo noted your health won't be restored as you go through fights. However, you will get chances to get more ammunition between each fight. Your goal is to try and defeat all of them. At the end, you'll be told how long it took.

There are two additional Boss Rush modes you can unlock in Metroid Dread. If you beat the game on the Dread Mode difficulty level added in February 2022, you can go through Dread Rush. This is a one-hit knockout version of the mode. The other option is Survival Rush. If someone beats the game and Boss Rush, this timed version unlocks. In addition to needing to keep Samus' health up through the 12 fights, you have to finish them all within a certain amount of time.

Metroid Dread is available for the Nintendo Switch. The official website shows footage of the Boss Rush modes.

Stranger of Paradise Auto-Dismantle Added, Multiplayer Progression Bug Fixed in 1.03 Patch

Stranger of Paradise Auto-Dismantle and Multiplayer Progression Bug Fixed in 1.03 Patch

The 1.03 Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin patch is here and adds a much-requested feature and much-needed fix. Each one is a quality of life issue, with one allowing people to get rewards they deserve. After updating Stranger of Paradise, people can now enable auto-dismantle and take part in multiplayer missions without worrying about the bug that would mean not getting first-time rewards that could prevent proper progression.

The Stranger of Paradise multiplayer progression bug is one that could have kept people from getting certain jobs or important items. Prior to the update, this would trigger if someone went through a mission online for the first time with someone else. People won't need to restart to fix the problem. After the update, people can get the missed rewards by playing the mission again. This could presumably be done alone in Stranger of Paradise or in multiplayer mode.

As for the new feature, the Stranger of Paradise auto-dismantle option makes it easier to deal with acquired equipment. Prior to 1.03, people would need to dismantle all acquired weapons, armor, and accessories manually. Once the patch is applied, people can enable the feature in settings. You can also further limit items you do grab when playing after the update. In settings, you could choose artifact or five-star-level items. This would mean you get more control about what drops you would pick up.

Here are the full 1.03 Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin patch notes from Square Enix.

Applicable to All Platforms
Added Functionality:
 • Send Messages
While speaking with allies, citizens of Cornelia, etc., hold the button down to send a message.

 • Auto-Dismantle
Equipment that meets parameters specified from the Settings screen can be dismantled immediately upon clearing a mission, freeing up space for more equipment. Please refer to the in-game tips for more details after updating.

 • "★5" and "Artifact" have been added to the Item Pickup settings for precluding picking up equipment of the set rarity or lower.

 • "No job affinity" has been added to the options for filtering within Items and other menus.

 • Multiplayer Missions Level-Only Search
It is now possible to search for "Similar Average Equipment Level" and "Mission Level 300" without specifying a mission in multiplayer.

Adjustments:
 • Adjusted lighting in certain dungeons to improve visibility.

 • Eased the break damage adjustment dealt to and received from enemies in missions with a discrepancy between mission level and average equipment level (indicated with "!").

 • Removed the following adjustments to break damage taken when guarding:
 • Mission level
 • Enemy strength
 • Difficulty levels HARD and above
Accordingly, a regular guard will consume less of the break gauge than soul shield when taking an attack, making it easier to assess the situation when guarding while surrounding by enemies or taking repeated attacks.

 • Shortened the time to recover from being broken when taking an attack while broken.

 • Shortened the time after recovering from being broken until soul shield and other defensive measures can be taken.

 • Relaxed the timing requirements to make it easier to initiate the next action following the end of an enemy's soul burst sequence.

 • Increased the conditions for determining a hit during the spinning attack of the knuckles action ability windmill.

 • Changed some enemies that appear in the sword tutorial to goblin guards, which do not stagger when hit with regular attacks, making it easier to complete a counter and fulfill the tutorial conditions.

 • Fixed the frame rate during conversations with allies and Cornelians at 30 FPS to prevent any dips in resolution.

 • Checkmarks will no longer be removed from equipment when changing tabs in the Items menu.

 • Removed certain boss animations during soul burst in CHAOS difficulty.

 • During multiplayer, your lock on an enemy will be canceled more quickly when another player performs a soul burst on that enemy.

 • Parameters when searching for rooms in multiplayer will now be preserved.
*Search parameters are lost when loading save data.

Resolved Issues:
 • In battle with Tiamat, the fiend of wind, certain conditions will no longer cause Tiamat to lose significant HP.

 • A lock on an enemy should no longer be suddenly canceled during battle.

 • Smaller enemies will no longer move incrementally out of synch when attacked with knuckles.

 • When using the red mage job action chainspell, magic will no longer trigger when attacking after casting or after interrupting casting with an attack, making it easier to input chainspell commands.

 • Addressed an issue that prevented first-time rewards from being obtained upon completing a mission. Unobtained first-time rewards can be obtained by completing the applicable mission once more.

 • During multiplayer, a message will no longer display claiming the room is full when entering a room that is not full.

 • Other various bug fixes.

Applicable to Epic Games Store
Resolved Issues:
 • Addressed an issue wherein the game was sometimes using integrated graphics instead of discrete GPUs.

Applicable to PlayStation 4
Added Functionality:
 • Adjustable Resolution
In FPS Priority Mode, an adjustable resolution function will now increase the resolution under less intensive processing loads.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and its 1.03 patch is out now.

Players will be able to request physical versions of the cards by either collecting seven copies of the specific card or obtaining a Realize Ticket. Outer Heaven will then produce the card and deliver it by post domestically in Japan for free.

Nomura Explains Why He Chose “My Way” for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Posted: 08 Apr 2022 03:00 AM PDT

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin My Way

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin producer Tetsuya Nomura explained the meaning behind the game's use of the Frank Sinatra song "My Way". In addition to some background details involving the game's final scene, Nomura revealed the game's originally intended title. Furthermore, Nomura discussed plans for the game's upcoming DLC. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Editor's Note: Nomura's comments on the song "My Way" may offer spoilers for the game.

In an interview with Famitsu, Nomura revealed that he had been listening to the song before production of the game had started, and that it was an important aspect of the game. Nomura described the lyrics of "My Way" as a perfect match to Jack Garland's story and the game's final scene. While the producer had considered using a cover of "My Way", Nomura personally believed that he would not have used the song had it not been Frank Sinatra's original version.

Despite starting at the beginning of production, the approval process for using the song reportedly took "a very long time". At one point, Nomura was worried that the team would not be able to use the song and had to come up with an alternative.

Similarly, Nomura had actually come up with the game's final scene before Stranger of Paradise had even been conceptualized. Nomura went as far as to say that it "wasn't an exaggeration that Final Fantasy Origin was created specifically for that scene." The producer also revealed that the game was initially supposed to be titled "Stranger of Paradise". It was later changed to include the Final Fantasy title so that people would better recognize its connection to FFI.

On the topic of DLC, Nomura revealed that one of the DLC stories will include missions involving the Warrior of Light that appears in the ending scene. The DLC will also add new weapons to the game. Specifically, for the DIFFERENT FUTURES DLC, Nomura points out that the title includes the letters DFF and NT, a possible nod to Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. However, Nomura also states that no one will be able to predict the mission's final boss.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you're interested in learning more about the game, check out our review.
