The group comprises the British light cruiser HMS Plymouth, the French large cruiser Brest, the Soviet carrier Chkalov, the Chinese light cruiser Harbin, and the German battlecruiser Prinz Rupprecht. Chocobo and the Airship is a Final Fantasy Picture Book Posted: 23 Jul 2022 08:00 AM PDT When you haven't had enough of Final Fantasy adventures in game form, consider the realm of books. Square Enix is publishing a new picture book adventure based on Final Fantasy. Title Chocobo and the Airship, the new book hits shelves on March 21, 2023. It's billed as a "heartwarming story" for Final Fantasy fans of all ages. The book is written by Kazuhiko Aoki, director of Chocobo's Dungeon 2, and illustrated by Toshiyuki Itahana, character designer for Chocobo's Dungeon. Square Enix Manga and Books announced the publication on July 22, 2022, via its Twitter account. https://twitter.com/SquareEnixBooks/status/1550466692228079621 The announcement also links the product page for Chocobo and the Airship on the Square Enix store. The page lists the book as a 40-page hardcover work. Its cover art, though not final, shows work-in-progress art with the Japanese title, Chocobo to Soratobu-bune ("Chocobo and the Flying Ship"). The page describes the story premise. Tireless inventor Cid and a brave little Chocobo must work together to build an airship. Their goal is to save their town, which is under threat from monsters. To get their ship into the air, though, they'll need a magical Flying Stone. They begin a "kwehst" to acquire the stone, meeting heroic adventurer allies and braving various dangers. Chocobo and the Airship releases on March 21, 2023. It'll cost $17.99 USD. The post Chocobo and the Airship is a Final Fantasy Picture Book appeared first on Siliconera. |
Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes for Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile Revealed Posted: 23 Jul 2022 07:00 AM PDT Street Fighter 6 is coming with all-new fits for its , but some looks just don't die. That's why Capcom confirmed the existence of Street Fighter 6 classic costumes for series OGs Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile. The costumes were first revealed at Capcom's SF6 panel at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con 2022. High-resolution screenshots of the Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes were later uploaded to Capcom's official Twitter account. Check them out in the gallery below. [gallery ids="932606,932607,932608,932609,932610,932611" link="file"] The three costumes return Guile, Chun-Li, and Ryu to their appearances in Street Fighter II. Ryu once again wears his torn white gi, and is clean-shaven. Guile is back in his camouflage pants and olive-green tank top. Thanks to modern lighting and the game's aesthetic, though, the colors a bit closer to his Champion Edition look than Street Fighter I or II. Chun-Li wears her modified blue cheongsam, with the spiked bracelets, sheer tights, and white boots. The Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes also enable Chun-Li to perform a new taunt animation, one that has its own hitbox. The Classic Costumes will be available in-game as DLC. Capcom didn't confirm the timing of the DLC. It also didn't confirm if the DLC is free or costs money. Beyond just the classic costumes, it will, though, be adding other new looks. The SDCC panel highlighted a street wear costume for Luke, and another alternate costume for Jamie. Street Fighter 6 launches on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023. It will have rollback netcode, and potentially cross-platform play. The post Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes for Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile Revealed appeared first on Siliconera. |
FFVII Remake Revisited Shows Stamp’s and Benches’ Origins Posted: 23 Jul 2022 04:00 AM PDT Square Enix continued its series of blog posts revisiting the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The latest entries of FFVII Remake Revisited cover Chapter 5: Dogged Pursuit and Chapter 6: Light the Way. In doing so they reveal the origins of two common elements from the game. Those are Stamp, the dog-like Shinra company mascot, and the "Potion" benches, a common place to replenish lost HP and MP. Check them out at these links. Note that they, and this article, contain some spoilers for Chapters 5 and 6 of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Chapters 5 and 6 in Final Fantasy VII Remake cover Cloud and company's trip to Mako Reactor No. 5. They travel first via train, and then via the lighting infrastructure underneath Midgar's sector plates. The FFVII Remake Revisited blog brings insights into moments from the chapter, courtesy of members of the development team. For example, as the party tries to make it to their rendezvous with Biggs, they're forced to leave the train and hoof it through the tunnels. They're guided by graffiti marks of Stamp, the Shinra mascot. According to Battle Director Teruki Endo, Stamp was first designed as a PR exercise during the war between Shinra and Wutai. Allegedly, Stamp is based on a design doodled by Shinra executive Palmer, who heads the Space Exploration Division. Other insights from the Chapter 5 FFVII Remake Revisited blog spoke about the challenges of making Tifa's combat style distinctive for Remake. Ultimately, the depth added came courtesy of the burst (a.k.a. stagger) system. Tifa's abilities are particularly suited to boosting her stagger damage. The Chapter 6 blog entry held forth on the set pieces and environments Cloud and party encounter while traversing Midgar's underbelly. In one scene where the party must walk past a giant exhaust fan, the team programmed bespoke animations and physics movements to enhanced the dramatic effect of the wind blowing. The team also held forth on the ubiquitous benches to be found throughout the game. Since Remake did away with save points, there had to be a way for players to rest and restore themselves. Game Design Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi said he personally pushed to design these rest points like benches and "Potion"-branded vending machines. The benches had to stand out to be visible in FFVII Remake's complex environment, but not so abstract that they didn't feel unreal. Thus the benches went for a "subtle line of abstraction" to present a "warm and inviting" aura, emphasizing their use as rest stops. Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PC, PS4, and PS5. Check out some more trivia in the previous FFVII Remake Revisited blog, which covers Chapter 4. The post FFVII Remake Revisited Shows Stamp’s and Benches’ Origins appeared first on Siliconera. |

Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market Will Appear at Comiket 100 Posted: 22 Jul 2022 09:00 AM PDT Touhou Project creator ZUN will release a new game at the milestone-reaching Comic Market 100. The game will be titled Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market. Both its storyline and gameplay system will take inspiration from ZUN's previous game, Touhou 18: Unconnected Marketeers. The story of 100th Black Market will take place shortly after the events of Unconnected Marketeers. A black market that greatly increases the value of Ability Cards outside of the creator's control has appeared in Gensokyo. Dragon Ball The Breakers Release Date Trailer Teases Frieza Posted: 22 Jul 2022 07:00 AM PDT It's time for some hell with Cell (and Frieza). Dragon Ball: The Breakers has a release date, and it's launching soon. A Tweet from the official account confirmed that Bandai Namco's open-map Saiyan survival simulator launches on October 14, 2022. The announcement also confirmed the presence of universal ruler Lord Frieza as one of the playable villains via a trailer. https://twitter.com/DBTB_EN/status/1550118401992888320 The trailer takes place on the planet Namek, where a player character attempts to save a trapped Namekian child. Seen through the telltale projection of a Scouter, the player briefly channels Son Goku's power to deliver a blow. It doesn't work, and Frieza in his first form emerges from the smoke. Gameplay footage reveals that Frieza will transition through his first four forms over the course of a Dragon Ball: The Breakers match, with the more slender Super Frieza being effectively invincible. The trailer also promoted a pair of limited physical releases of Dragon Ball: The Breakers. The base game is digital-only, through pre-orders unlock the Android 18 Transphere (enabling transformation into Android 18) and Scouter (Blue) cosmetic accessory. The Special Edition comes with the game on disc or cartridge (or digital code for PC), as well as a costume, victory pose, and a Yellow Dragon vehicle skin. The Limited Edition pack comes with all of the Special Edition and pre-order content, and adds a steelbook case, a set of stickers featuring the Raiders, a green Potara accessory, and a physical Cell Shell figure. On its release date Dragon Ball: The Breakers will treat series fans to some "asymmetrical survival" gameplay. The game pits a team of low-powered Survivors against a single superpowered Raider. The playable Raiders are Cell, Frieza, and Majin Buu. The Survivors use gadgets and skills to try to find keys scattered throughout the map while avoiding the Raider. The Raider must find ways to power up (for example, by feeding on civilians or Surviors) and evolve their form to better hunt down Survivors. Survivors can charge up their Change Power to briefly transform into a Dragon Ball hero like Goku or Vegeta to take on a Raider in direct combat. The game is supported by a gacha system to unlock new change characters and premium currency. Prior to its release date, Dragon Ball: The Breakers will receive another Closed Network Test. Interested players can register at this page. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is bound for PS4, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on October 14, 2022. Check out Siliconera's preview from the previous Network Test period. The post Dragon Ball The Breakers Release Date Trailer Teases Frieza appeared first on Siliconera. |
SNES Kirby’s Avalanche, Daiva Story 6 Join Nintendo Switch Online Posted: 22 Jul 2022 06:00 AM PDT Nintendo has added three new games to its Nintendo Switch Online classic lineup, including Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES and Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia for the NES. Fighter's History for the SNES is also available. All three games are available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Kirby's Avalanche is a puzzle game released back in 1995 for the SNES. The game is known as Kirby's Ghost Trap in Europe and is a puzzle game featuring Puyo Puyo mechanics. In fact, the game is a western adaptation of Japan's Super Puyo Puyo, with the game's Puyo Puyo characters replaced with characters from Kirby. Notably, it is the only game in the Kirby series not to receive a Japanese release. Fighter's History was originally an arcade fighting game, which later received a port to the SNES in 1994. Data East developed the game as well as the sequels that followed. Capcom later sued Data East for infringing on its copyright of Street Fighter II, due to its similarities. The court ruled in favor of Data East, noting that Capcom's copyright did not apply to martial stances, kicks, or punches. Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia is the sixth game in a seven-game series. Released in 1986 for Famicom, the game has been a Japanese exclusive until now. Interestingly, the war simulation game appears to be untranslated from its Japanese release. Nintendo also provided the passcode "たたかう" in its announcement video, which allows players to start from a planet-side battle. Check out the video below: https://youtu.be/yxju2frV6PI Earlier this month, Nintendo added Mega Man: The Wily Wars and Zero Wing to its classic games lineup. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards also appeared back in May 2022. Meanwhile, Custom Robo and its sequel appeared for Japanese subscribers but did not make it to the west. Kirby's Avalanche, Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia, and Fighter's History are available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. The original games are available to play on the NES and SNES. Play Arts Kai Cloud Dress Version Completed Sam’s Quests Posted: 22 Jul 2022 05:00 AM PDT Cloud Strife is the best-dressed person in Final Fantasy VII Remake, and that's about to translate to the real world. Square Enix announced a new Play Arts Kai Cloud Dress Version figure. It's based on Cloud's dolled-up look from Final Fantasy VII Remake's Wall Market segment. In the segment, Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith infiltrate the lawless, decadent paradise of Midgar's Sector 6 Slums area. Their objective to interrogate local hedonist/crime boss Don Corneo is complicated by the Don's love of his "brides". Cloud is forced to dress the part, with the help of Aerith and the people of the Market, giving rise to the iconic Cloud Dress Version costume. The Play Arts Kai Cloud Dress Version figure is patterned after a specific look Cloud adopts to get close to Don Corneo. In the game, Cloud's dress design is determined by the side quests the player completes while in the area. Completing no side quests puts Cloud in a basic black dress. Doing quests massage purveyor Madam M unlocks a lavender gown with white frills. However, Chocobo Sam's side quests unlock the dress the figure takes its inspiration from. The figure thus wears saloon girl outfit with a tight bodice and thin sleeves. The color scheme is more purple-and-blue than black-and-blue this time, though. Check out some photos of the Cloud Dress Version Play Arts Kai figure in the gallery. [gallery columns="4" ids="932526,932527,932528,932529" link="file"] The figure is available for pre-order via the Square Enix store, with a July 2023 release date. It'll cost $194.99 USD. A larger, non-poseable Static Arts version of the figure costs $199.99 USD and is expected in November 2023. Unlike the recently announced Bring Arts Cloud Strife action figure, neither figure includes any NFTs or cryptocurrency integrations. Persona 5 Royal PS4 Users Will Not Have Free PS5 Upgrade Posted: 22 Jul 2022 04:00 AM PDT During a Q&A between the Persona 5 Royal team and Persona Channel, one of the answers revealed that owners of the PlayStation 4 version of the game will not be eligible for a free or discounted upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version. Even if you own the game on the PS4, you will have to purchase the PS5 version at full price. Other questions on the form are in regards to the game itself. Those familiar with the game from when it initially came out in 2019 may already know these answers. You do not need to play other games in the Persona series or the original Persona 5 in order to play Persona 5 Royal. There is a new third-semester storyline after the main plot, as well as new characters Takuto Maruki and Kasumi Yoshizawa. There are also new mechanics such as the Thieves Den. Several other game companies have allowed PlayStation 4 users to upgrade to the next-generation console versions of their games for free or at a discounted price. For example, if you owned Star Ocean: The Divine Force or Atelier Ryza 2 on the PS4, you could get the game on PS5 for free. However, other companies did implement a similar rule for their games. Players who obtained Final Fantasy VII Remake for free due to having a PlayStation Plus subscription were not entitled to the free PS5 update. Persona 5 Royal is available on the PlayStation 4. Persona 5 Royal will come out on the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch on October 21, 2022. Those with the Xbox Game Pass will be able to access Persona 5 Royal from that date as well. The post Persona 5 Royal PS4 Users Will Not Have Free PS5 Upgrade appeared first on Siliconera. |
