A hidden gem on London Road, Sheffield serving freshly made pasta dishes as well as other Italian delights in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
We were kindly invited to Butta La Pasta as part of a Sheffield Foodie Socials event (gifted 25% off the main menu). A very unassuming restaurant from the outside and could easily be missed, but if you know, you know! A really relaxed and friendly place with fresh, regional and seasonal courses to enjoy from a regularly changing menu.
As part of the event there was a choice of 4/5 dishes across each of the starters, mains and dessert courses. We decided not to go for a starter as the dishes on offer didn't stand out enough over the desserts, and the portions were fairly small so I don't feel we missed out this time around. On offer though was; Roasted Stuffed Peppers (V/Ve), Yorkshire Crab Crostini, BLP Steamed Mussels and Crostini Con Fegatini.
For our mains I chose the Tagliatelle with Beef Fillet, Tomato & Red Wine. This dish was lip-smackingly delicious. A big, hot bowl of goodness. The pasta was so fresh and the beef was so tender and melted in the mouth, the only thing I wanted was a little more of it as it was so good. I slurped up every bit of this course.
Ben went with the Neopolitan Lasagne which had so many layers to it and the filling was with homemade meatballs not just mince so this really added to the texture, taste and enjoyment. The portion size was really generous and the pasta on top was lovely and crispy, not greasy at all. Everything well in proportion and all deliciously combined. Top marks for making a lasagne photogenic too!
Other main courses on offer were; Salmon Ravioli, Mushroom Ravioli or Orecchiette with Broccoli, Tomatoes & Pomgrattato - almost went with this one too.
Dessert was hands down the easiest to pick for me, and I got to eat most of it too which is always a winner - Chocolate Torte. It was like eating a pure slab of rich, indulgent, silky cocoa. For me it wasn't sickly at all because I have a sweet (chocolate) tooth, others may have found it to be but not me. I think the creme fraiche it was served with gave it a slight acidity to take the sweet edge off too. Perfect and I am still daydreaming about this dessert even now.
Other desserts on offer were; Amaretti Cheesecake (which looked great), Lemon Tart, Affogato with Amaretti Biscuit or Homemade Gelato.
I washed the food down with a lovely cool and crisp glass of House White but there was plenty of wine, cocktails, beers and soft drinks on offer.
The team at Butta La Pasta worked hard to make sure we all enjoyed our food and our time at the restaurant which was a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend giving this place a visit if you love pasta like me. Check out their Instagram and Facebook page here.
